Nga Kor Ming invites MACC chief to ‘tea' as MyKiosk faces overspending allegations
The MACC's potential involvement follows growing public scrutiny over claims of inflated kiosk prices under the MyKiosk 2.0 programme.
'I would like to invite Tan Sri Azam Baki (chief commissioner of MACC) to my office for tea (to discuss further),' Nga was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times after the pre-launch of the Minister's Excellence Award and the Ministry's Media Excellence Awards here.
MyKiosk initiative came under fire for alleged mismanagement or overspending after claims that each kiosk cost RM25,000.
Nga said that RM25,000 is the ceiling price, and actual costs have gone as low as RM13,000 through open bidding by local councils.
He said the price increase under the upgraded version was due to significant design improvements, including solar panels, LED lights, fans, kitchen modules and portable batteries.
'These are Malaysia's first green energy micro-business kiosks,' he said.
Upgrades in MyKiosk 2.0 also include better battery systems, modular solar setups, reinforced structures and hydraulic windows.
Nga said the ministry has been transparent, with 156 local authorities receiving kiosks to assist targeted communities.
Johor received the most kiosks, totalling 1,185 units.
He also said the programme has received strong support from single mothers who credit it with helping them sustain livelihoods.
Nga warned of legal action against those who spread false claims about the project on social media.
'We are actively gathering video evidence,' he was quoted as saying.
He said spreading false information is a criminal offence under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and that the ministry would file complaints to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission for legal action.

Yee views the investment as a necessary long-term strategy and noted that a 15 to 17kW solar system is a viable investment for many small businesses. The government is currently reviewing the Net Energy Metering programme and is expected to announce a new scheme this month. This follows the revised electricity tariff structure to ensure a more equitable distribution of energy subsidies.

Decades-long wait ends as Melaka hands over 47 approval letter for railway reserve land
ALOR GAJAH: After more than 30 years, the issue involving railway reserve land in Pengkalan here has been resolved, with the Melaka government handing over 47 approval letters for state land application, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh. He said the handover ceremony reflected the state government's concern in understanding the community's needs and ensuring that every policy and development project delivers a positive impact on the people's lives. "A total of 45 applications involved the Pengkalan railway reserve land that had been delayed for three decades, and two plots for temples. "Also approved was Tenaga Nasional Bhd's (TNB) application to place a substation on Plot 1, Mukim Kelemak, Alor Gajah district, which will provide electricity to residential, commercial, hospital, and government office areas, benefiting more than 3,050 users," he said today. He said this at the handover of the approval letters in conjunction with the Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) programme for the Rembia state constituency, which was also attended by the coordinator for the constituency, Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan. He said this year, 96 state land applications have been approved in the district, followed by the issuance of Notice 5A by the land administrator. Notice 5A is an official document informing applicants of the fees due, including document preparation and registration costs, that they must pay to obtain the land titles. "It is on this land that new homes will be built, gardens will be filled with flowers, children will run and play, and families will gather every weekend. "Its value is not merely measured in square feet, but in the space to build a life and pass down a legacy of peace to future generations," he said.
