Tipperary lotto player becomes a millionaire in special draw
Speaking on the win, store owner Robert Ely said: 'We took over the shop just two years ago, so this win feels like the perfect anniversary surprise! It's incredible to think that a life-changing ticket was sold right here in our store.
"Huge congratulations to the winner, we're absolutely delighted for you and wish you all the best of luck. What a moment for Clerihan!,' he added.
The Lotto Plus Raffle usually sees between 60 and 120 winners of €500 in each draw. However, Saturday night's draw included a special event: every ticket with the winning raffle number was entered into a once-off random draw, where one ticket was selected to win an additional €1,000,000.
While 104 ticketholders walked away with the standard prize, one lucky player with the winning raffle number 9416 struck gold.
Emma Monaghan, spokesperson for the National Lottery, said: 'Over 109,000 players won prizes in Saturday's draw, but it was a Clerihan player who topped the lot becoming Ireland's newest millionaire.
"We're encouraging all our players in Tipperary to check their tickets very carefully today because for one winner, it's no longer a long way to Tipperary, it's a fast track to millionaire status with a ticket now worth a life-changing €1,000,500!'
Outside of the million euro prize, additional prizes offered following the draw ranged from €2 to just over €5,000. There was no winner of the jackpot prize of over €10,000,000 or of the two top prizes of €1,000,000 and €250,000.
Lotto Plus draws are held every Wednesday and Saturday and the draws can be seen live on RTÉ One at 7.55pm.
The winner is advised to sign the back of their ticket and to keep it safe. They should make contact with our prize claims team on 1800 666 222 or email claims@lottery.ie and arrangements will be made for them to collect their prize in Lotto HQ.
The Tipperary win comes after an Irish person won €250 million in the Euromillions jackpot last month. It was revealed the winning ticket was sold in Clifford's Centra on Shandon Street, Cork.

'They're still rooted in the last war': Taoiseach says banks are not lending enough to Irish builders
TAOISEACH MICHEÁL MARTIN has said the banks are 'still rooted in the last war' and said he has called on them to lend more to Irish builders to boost housing supply. Speaking to The Journal this week in Japan, where the Taoiseach visited Tokyo, Osaka and Hiroshima, the Taoiseach said the 'psychology' of the Irish banks 'needs to change'. Advertisement Martin said he has spoken to the Banking Federation of Ireland about the matter, stating he told them banks should be lending more to Irish builders and developers. The Business Post reported earlier this year that there had been a fall-off in lending this year to developers by the two main pillar banks, AIB and Bank of Ireland. While Bank of Ireland's loans to developers increased from €540 million to €608 million, the value of development loans issued by AIB for residential and commercial building fell from €992 million in 2023 to €809 million last year, the newspaper reported. The Central Bank has also stated the banks are well capitalised and can lend out more. Related Reads Savings scheme for first-time-buyers under consideration by government It is believed that such a level of lending is deemed to be significantly lower than what is required to meet housing demand. 'The cost of financing is a problem and it needs to lend more into the domestic construction industry, it's not lending enough, and much of its lending is towards schemes that have a state backing already in terms of affordable housing,' said Martin. 'Given the huge demand for housing in the market, to me, they're still rooted in the last war and the psychology needs to change,' he added. German company Dussmann acquires Dublin-based Lynskey Engineering
DUSSMANN GROUP, the German international multi-service provider, has acquired specialist mechanical engineering company, Lynskey Engineering. The multinational Dublin-headquartered firm has around 120 direct, highly-specialised employees and an annual revenue of €60m. The acquisition strengthens the Dussmann Technical Solutions division, which has acquired several other technical services companies, including the Irish STS Group, a multinational specialist electrical engineering company based in Waterford. "This provides an excellent opportunity for both our clients and employees," said Lynskey Managing Director Sean McElligott. Comprehensive and powerful service Lynskey is one of the leading mechanical building services contractors in Ireland. It has successfully completed specialist technical projects for blue chip clients in the data centre, pharmaceutical, retail, commercial and energy sectors. The group provides specialist mechanical design, engineering, installation and commissioning services for its clients across Europe. Lynskey also provides technical maintenance services for clients in Ireland. "We already have worked with Lynskey on delivery of several successful projects in the data centre sector," said Stephan Possekel, Managing Director at Dussmann Technical Solutions. "Lynskey's portfolio of mechanical services seamlessly complements STS' electrical engineering services." The combined entity will offer clients a more comprehensive and powerful service portfolio, especially for those in the pharmaceutical sector, an industry Dussmann successfully operates in. 'Increased opportunities' The existing employees of Lynskey will be unaffected by the deal, while the senior management team, including Mr McElligott, will remain in their existing roles post-acquisition. "Our clients will continue to enjoy the same level of superior service provided by our team, delivering complex technical mechanical projects within time and on budget, and will post-acquisition also benefit from the increased scale and service capability we can offer as part of a ca. €3.3bn turnover group," he said. "Similarly, our employees will find increased opportunities provided by the ambition and support of Dussmann to grow our business further. "Myself and the entire senior management team are very excited to become part of the Dussmann Group and are looking forward to our new future together." Both parties have agreed to keep the purchase price confidential. See More: Dublin, Dussmann, Lynskey Engineering
