Fired 32 years ago, ex-railway worker attacks CBI ASI with bow and arrow in revenge in Lucknow
A former railway gangman has been arrested for allegedly attacking an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) with a bow and arrow outside the agency's office in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow, police said on Saturday.
The agency's office is situated in Lucknow's Hazratganj.
The ASI, 55-year-old Virendra Singh, suffered a chest injury in the incident on Friday, according to police officials, quoted in a PTI news agency report
ASI Virendra Singh had investigated a case related to corruption in the Railways in 1993 after which the accused was dismissed from service, as per the police, who added that the accused, identified as Dinesh Murmu, had also attacked a policeman in 2005.
SHO of Hazratganj police station Vikram Singh told the news agency that 65-year-old Dinesh Murmu, a resident of Bihar's Munger, attacked ASI Singh with a bow and arrow outside the CBI office located on Naval Kishore Marg.
The ASI is undergoing medical treatment in Lucknow, and his wound was about five centimetres deep, SHO Singh said.
The Station House Officer (SHO) said that Dinesh Murmu has been booked for the offence of attempt to murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and has been arrested. After completing the legal process, the accused will be sent to jail today.
SHO Singh said that Dinesh Murmu was a railway gangman when ASI Virendra Singh had investigated a case related to corruption in 1993, resulting in the accused getting dismissed from service.
According to police sources cited by PTI, Dinesh Murmu had gone to Delhi to meet a CBI officer in 2005 and attacked a policeman, after which he was sent to jail.
In 2015, he was also arrested after a dispute with a GRP jawan at Jaunpur railway station and remained in jail for about three and a half years.
A railway gangman is a railway worker responsible for maintaining the track and ensuring its safety.

The judge convicted and sentenced Kalpana and Lavanya to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of 11 lakh each on them. The judge acquitted Usha from the case. The judge further directed CBI to collect the fine amount from the four accused by attaching their properties and selling them in a public auction. Cops arrest 6 criminals, seize illegal weapons in Puri
1 2 3 Puri: In a major enforcement drive ahead of Rath Yatra, Puri police busted an arms smuggling racket, arresting six criminals and seizing illegal weapons on Friday. The operation follows intensified security measures for the chariot festival on June 27. "We have seized six country-made firearms and 20 rounds of ammunition from the accused, effectively preventing what could have been a serious security threat during the festival," SP (Puri) Vinit Agrawal said. The accused, all with previous criminal records, were identified as Ramesh Parida alias Denga Muna (29), Babu Das (24), Gudu Panda (27), Harichandan Das (20), Pabitra Behera (25) and Chittaranjan Purohita (23). Elderly man, wife found killed in duplex flat after 2 visitors leave; cops suspect gain for murder
Hyderabad: An elderly couple was murdered by two unidentified persons in their duplex apartment in Rajendranagar on Thursday. Police suspect it to be a case of murder for gain. According to the police, the deceased were identified as Shaik Abdullah (77), a retired bank employee, and his wife Rizwana (70), a retired polytechnic college lecturer. They were found dead with multiple stab injuries by the building's watchman on Friday. According to police officials, Abdullah had sustained seven stab injuries on his body, including the chest, abdomen, and leg. Based on the watchman's statement, the Rajendranagar police booked a case under Section 103 (murder) of BNS and launched a manhunt for the accused. "As per the watchman's statement, two people had come to visit the couple at around 5.10 pm on Thursday. They said they were physiotherapists. It was after taking permission from the house owner that the two were allowed inside. One of them was wearing a mask, and the other was dressed in burqa," said a police official. "Five minutes later, the person wearing the mask came out, and the other person left the house about 30 minutes later and came down from the sixth floor. " The couple had moved into the Rajendranagar residence about a month ago and were living alone. The police are yet to ascertain the extent of the loss. "The house, including the cupboard, was found ransacked. Since there was no third person, we cannot confirm whether any property was stolen. Only imitation ornaments were found at the site, and no gold was recovered.
