Tracee Ellis Ross, 52, on why she dates younger men: 'A lot of men my age are steeped in toxic masculinity'
Tracee Ellis Ross, 52, prefers dating younger men because they're less bound by traditional gender roles.
During an appearance on the Wednesday episode of the " IMO" podcast — hosted by Michelle Obama and her brother, Craig Robinson — Ross reflected on her dating preferences and shared why she gravitates toward younger partners.
"Why does this keep coming up, other than they're hot and gorgeous? There's that," Ross told the podcast hosts. "But a lot of men my age are steeped in toxic masculinity and have been raised in a culture where there is a particular way that a relationship looks."
"And anything that starts to smell of that for me — I did enough of it where I was controlled and felt like I was a possession or a prize — I just have no interest in it. And I will not do it again," Ross said."
The "Black-ish" actor admits that "it's a generalization," but she's had very different experiences dating men her age and younger men.
"There is a difference. There is an openness that occurs with a younger man around, whether it's gender fluidity or not even having an issue with homosexuality — something as basic as that," Ross said.
She added that she's no longer willing to take on the role of helping her partner mature.
"I have long been past the age where I feel like it's my job to teach somebody or grow them up," Ross said. "That, I'm not interested in."
Ross isn't the only female celebrity who has spoken about dating younger men.
In 2024, Cher revealed that she prefers dating someone younger because men her age or older "were always terrified" to approach her. Cher has a 40-year age gap with her boyfriend, Alexander Edwards. They went public with their relationship in November 2022.
Apart from Cher, there are several other celebrities who are in age-gap relationships with younger men.
Kris Jenner, 69, has a 25-year age gap with Corey Gamble, 44, whom she has been dating for almost a decade. Heidi Klum, 51, has a 16-year age gap with her husband, "Tokio Hotel" rocker Tom Kaulitz, 35. Sam and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who have been married since 2012, have an age difference of 23 years.
In a 2024 episode of "The View," Joy Behar said that it's "scientifically smart" for women to date younger men because they'll have similar lifespans.
A representative for Ross told Business Insider that the actor had no additional comment.

Judge moves toward nixing juror in Sean 'Diddy' Combs trial over 'lack of candor'
The judge in Sean "Diddy" Combs' sex-crimes trial moved closer to dismissing a juror, two days after prosecutors raised issues about the man's alleged "lack of candor with the court." U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian indicated he would be ordering for Juror No. 6's removal from the 12-person jury on Friday, June 13. Six alternates have been on the sidelines in the trial, which is wrapping its sixth week in Manhattan federal court. In court, Subramanian said, "Removal of the juror is required" and added, "The juror will be dismissed." The reason was "several inconsistencies" in the man's answers regarding where he lives. Subramanian continued, "The juror is unable to answer simple questions. … There are serious questions about the juror's candor and ability to follow instructions." Though it "seems like a trivial matter," it "goes to a juror's basic criteria to serve," he said. Because of the "changing answers and inconsistency," Subramanian said it brings up questions about whether the juror was truthful in responding to other questions more directly related to the case. Defense attorney Xavier Donaldson objected to the juror's dismissal. Subramanian responded that he would continue to take the issue under consideration over the weekend. According to the judge, Juror No. 6 offhandedly told a member of the jury department that he had recently moved in with his girlfriend in New Jersey, where he had been staying most of the time. In yet another interview, Juror No. 6 allegedly said he stayed four to five nights each week in an apartment in New York, where he worked and completed jury responsibilities. He'd also mentioned living with his aunt in New York. Before the jury entered the courtroom June 11, prosecutors reportedly asked the judge to oust one of them, known as Juror No. 6, according to outlets including NBC News and CNN. Per NBC News and The Washington Post, Assistant U.S. Attorney Maurene Comey told Subramanian she saw "what appeared to be a lack of candor with the court" from Juror No. 6 "that raises serious issues." Alexandra Shapiro from Combs' team reportedly pushed back against the request, calling it "a thinly veiled effort to dismiss a Black juror, The Post and ABC News reported. Combs, 55, was arrested in September and charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty. Black knows this and decided to give his fans a timely assist. The SmackDown Superstar recently took to Instagram to post a series of photos. Details for the modders //,' Aleister Black said in a post. When a fan mentioned that providing details for the modders is one of the sickest things a wrestler can do, Black explained his admiration for modders and their attention to getting details right, replying with: Advertisement 'I actually really appreciate the modders. It's cool to see kids go out of their way to get details right. Figured with some of my stuff it's hard to catch all the details,' Aleister Black said.
