BEIJING (Xinhua)China this week launched a trial policy that grants unilateral visa-free entry to citizens of Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain, expanding its unilateral visa-free access list to 47 countries.Under the policy, which will remain in effect through June 8, 2026, holders of ordinary passports from these four countries can enter China without a visa for up to 30 days for purposes such as business, tourism, family visits, cultural exchange, and transit. Both the United Arab Emirates and Qatar have established reciprocal visa-free arrangements with China since 2018, which means all six member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) now enjoy visa-free access to China. The expansion has been warmly welcomed across the Gulf region and is expected to boost bilateral exchanges, strengthen cultural and people-to-people ties, and inject new momentum into broader China-GCC cooperation. In a statement posted on platform X following China's announcement in late May, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the move would "contribute to encouraging mutual visits and deepening the bonds of friendship between the two friendly peoples."Naif Awlia, director of tourism and engagement at Saudi tourism developer Diriyah Company, also hailed the policy as a positive step forward. "Friendly ties are the foundation of long-term cooperation, and we look forward to deepening our partnership with China," he said.Kanoo Travel, one of the largest travel companies in the Gulf region and an early mover in promoting outbound tourism to China, has launched new travel packages since the announcement, targeting residents of the UAE, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia.China and Gulf countries already enjoy strong air travel connectivity, and the new visa-free policy is anticipated to further boost travel volume.Currently, about 20 direct flights operate weekly between major Chinese cities -- including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen -- and Saudi destinations such as Riyadh and Jeddah. The UAE is connected to 13 cities across the Chinese mainland with direct flights.Looking ahead, Chinese carrier Hainan Airlines plans to launch a direct Haikou-Jeddah route on June 28, while UAE carrier Emirates will begin daily nonstop service between Dubai and Shenzhen on July 1.Observers say the new policy reflects the growing political, economic, and cultural ties between China and the Gulf region. In 2024, trade between China and GCC countries reached $288.09 billion, making the GCC China's sixth-largest trading partner. The latest step underscores China's continued push to open its doors wider to global visitors, in line with its commitment to high-level opening-up.Since late 2023, China has introduced a series of traveler-friendly policies. Starting June 1, holders of ordinary passports from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay are eligible for unilateral visa-free entry -- the first time such access has been extended to Latin American and Caribbean nations.Additionally, the visa-free transit period has been extended to 240 hours for travelers from 54 countries. These initiatives have already had a noticeable impact. In 2024, China recorded 3.39 million entries under its unilateral visa-free policy, a year-on-year surge of 1,200 percent. During the recent three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday, 231,000 foreigners entered China without a visa, up 59.4 percent from a year earlier.
Dai Bin, president of the China Tourism Academy, said foreign travelers come not only to visit China's landscapes and cities but also to experience everyday life. "These visits offer opportunities to discover the real China," he said.

UAE Set for Accelerated Growth on Diversified Economy

Arabian Post Staff -Dubai The World Bank has raised its forecast for the UAE's gross domestic product to 4.6 percent in 2025, marking a notable upward revision of 0.6 percentage points from its January outlook. The renewed projection is driven by strong momentum in non‑oil sectors—tourism, construction, transportation and finance—while the phased easing of OPEC+ production cuts is expected to support oil output growth. Overall GCC growth is also tipped to rise to 3.2 percent in 2025, climbing further to 4.5 percent in 2026 and 4.8 percent in 2027. Globally, however, the World Bank projects a slowdown to 2.3 percent in 2025, the weakest expansion outside recessions since 2008 — due mainly to elevated trade tensions and policy uncertainty. ADVERTISEMENT Within the UAE, the non‑oil sector is poised to expand by roughly 4.9 percent in 2025, outpacing oil‑based growth. This upturn reflects robust activity in tourism, real estate, transport, and financial services. The first nine months of 2024 saw non‑oil GDP rise by 4.5 percent, a stronger contributor than the 1.5 percent growth recorded in oil GDP. Analysts point to the UAE's strategic economic diversification as central to this trajectory. Public investment in infrastructure and tech industries, alongside governance reforms aimed at enhancing the business environment, have significantly boosted competitiveness. Free‑zone facilities and logistics integration—especially in Abu Dhabi—are improving supply chain efficiency, while the nation's Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements are broadening international trade links. OPEC+ adjustments remain influential. The group is implementing a gradual withdrawal from voluntary oil output limits between May 2025 and September 2026, which the World Bank says will bolster oil GDP amid global price pressures. The UAE's oil GDP is thus anticipated to gain ground after a lull, providing a stabilising complement to the diversification agenda. Risks persist, including uncertainty around global trade, fluctuating energy prices, and regulatory slowdowns. The World Bank notes that logistics sectors across the GCC could be affected by broader trade disruptions. Meanwhile, lower oil revenues may limit fiscal flexibility, even as sovereign buffers remain robust. In Abu Dhabi, economic diversification efforts are visibly gaining traction. The non‑oil sector there grew by 6.2 percent in 2024, representing over half of the emirate's GDP at AED 644.3 billion. Large‑scale initiatives—such as new business districts, enhanced transport infrastructure, and collaborative zones linking academia with private industry—are expanding economic capacity. Despite global headwinds, the UAE's fiscal position remains sound. The 2024 fiscal surplus stood at approximately 4.6 percent of GDP, supported by counter‑cyclical spending and healthy sovereign reserves. Inflation has moderated to near 2.3 percent, with the Central Bank maintaining supportive liquidity without compromising price stability. Employment is also expected to benefit. The International Labour Organization projects job growth to remain around 3.3 percent in 2025, with unemployment steady at roughly 2.1 percent. Nonetheless, structural issues—such as high youth unemployment and gender disparities—persist, particularly among younger and female cohorts. Looking ahead, the UAE is on track to sustain growth above 4 percent through 2027, with oil and non‑oil sectors contributing in tandem. Yet, global vulnerabilities underscore the need for continued diversification, fiscal prudence and trade resilience.

Nissan achieves 10% growth in Fiscal Year 2024 across the Middle East, driven by SUV demand and iconic nameplates

Nissan has announced a 10% year-on-year growth in the Middle East region for fiscal year 2024 (April 2024 – March 2025). Spanning over 18 markets, including the Gulf states, Saudi Arabia, Levant, Iraq, and CIS, the brand's regional business unit achieved strong results, fueled by increased demand for SUVs and crossovers, which accounted for more than 55% of total sales. SUV sales rose 17% year-on-year, led by the World Premiere of the All-New Nissan Patrol in Abu Dhabi, which saw a 21% increase in sales. Closing FY24, Nissan expanded its SUV range with the Magnite, a compact SUV introduced regionally in Saud Arabia, offering a value-driven option for city living. Saudi Arabia remains Nissan's largest market in the Middle East, contributing over 35% of total regional sales in FY24. The Kingdom continues to be a key pillar in Nissan's regional strategy, with the SUV portfolio including Pathfinder with a 27% increase, and KICKS with a 10% increase, resonating strongly with Saudi consumers. This market remains pivotal to Nissan's growth, especially in the SUV segment, which has seen strong demand in recent years. Thierry Sabbagh, President of Nissan Middle East and INFINITI and Divisional Vice President for KSA, Middle East, and CIS, said 'FY24 marked a strategic turning point for Nissan in the region. Amid shifting market dynamics and heightened consumer expectations, we remained focused on what drives long-term value, strong partnerships, competitive product lineup, and operational agility across our markets. Our performance in Saudi Arabia, our largest market, reflects the strength of our product strategy and the trust we continue to build with customers and dealers alike. As we look ahead, we see clear opportunities for growth, particularly across the SUV segment, supported by a robust FY25 product pipeline and closer collaboration with our trusted partners across the region.' Beyond Saudi Arabia, Gulf markets played a key role in driving regional sales growth. These markets saw a 16% uplift in sales, with Qatar emerging as standout performer with a 32% increase. The UAE registered a 16% increase in sales, while Bahrain posted an 11% rise. The Patrol saw impressive gains in these markets, with sales surging 80% in Qatar and over 30% in both the UAE and Bahrain. Additionally, the X-TRAIL recorded strong double-digit growth across several key markets, including a 32% increase in the UAE, and 25% in Kuwait. Product performance across the region also showcased the strength of Nissan's portfolio. The Pathfinder achieved a remarkable 96% year-on-year increase, driven by robust demand in the UAE. Meanwhile, the KICKS saw a 28% regional increase, with particularly strong performances in the UAE and Bahrain This momentum was further boosted by the February 2025 launch of the all-new KICKS, which featured upgraded features and a refreshed design, reflecting its popularity among younger, tech-savvy urban drivers. Entering FY25, Nissan stands on a solid foundation, having reinforced its product lineup with both iconic models and exciting new introductions. Building on its momentum, FY25 will see the continuation of Nissan's product offensive strategy, with new models and nameplates set to launch across the region. With the recent introduction of the new Magnite and KICKS strengthening Nissan's SUV offering, the brand remains focused on meeting the growing customer demand for SUVs and crossovers. Guided by a commitment to innovation, quality, and customer engagement, Nissan is poised for sustained growth in the evolving Middle East market.
