Report: Rutgers' Ace Bailey cancels visit with Sixers ahead of draft
With the 2025 NBA draft just about a week away, now is the time for teams to get down to the nitty gritty and make their final decisions on prospects as they move forward with the process. The Philadelphia 76ers are no different as they continue preparing for the No. 3 pick.
The Sixers will, for sure, meet with Duke guard Kon Knueppel. He stated on "The Bill Simmons Podcast" that he has a Zoom meeting set up with the Sixers, but not a workout. Philadelphia has welcomed Baylor's VJ Edgecombe in for a workout, and had one set with Rutgers star Ace Bailey, but that has reportedly been canceled.

Former Rutgers star Ace Bailey has canceled a visit to the Philadelphia 76ers, sources told ESPN.
Bailey, the No. 3 prospect on ESPN's big board, was slated to fly to Philadelphia, owners of the No. 3 pick in the draft, Friday, for dinner with the team's front office and a private workout, but elected to cancel on Wednesday, sources told ESPN.
With that being said, Bailey is still an option for Philadelphia. Just because he hasn't come in for a workout doesn't mean the Sixers will not outright select him. President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey has never been shy about making big moves and Bailey qualifies as one when considering the immense talent he brings to the table. Morey selected Jared McCain in the 2024 draft and he did not visit Philadelphia for a workout.

The Sixers have not ruled out selecting Bailey, despite his refusal to visit Philadelphia, sources told ESPN. The team has scouted him extensively throughout the season, as he plays his college basketball at nearby Rutgers in Piscataway, New Jersey, and interviewed him in Chicago at the NBA Draft Combine. The team will have final discussions on who to select in the coming week and is unlikely to move down in the draft order next Wednesday, sources said.
Bailey averaged 17.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in his freshman season with Rutgers.

Global streaming company DAZN acquired the rights to this year's Club World Cup in late 2024 for a reported $1 billion. Starting Saturday, it will stream games from the tournament in 15 languages around the world—for free. It is a 'big bet' on using a single sports competition to drive sustained viewership long term, DAZN's global chief revenue officer Walker Jacobs said in an interview about the company's business strategy. DAZN has also made sublicensing deals around the world—including with TNT Sports and Univision in the U.S.—worth 'hundreds of millions [of dollars],' according to chief executive of growth markets Pete Oliver. The company has inked new sponsorship deals to offset the cost it paid for the rights as well. DAZN plans to roll out two-box advertising that shows commercials during stoppages in play, a first in FIFA competition. Then there are additional tie-ups for content on TikTok and X. 'A subscription service business is something that is sort of a cornerstone of what our offering is and will continue to be,' Jacobs said. 'But in all of our rights deals, we're trying to make sure that we have the flexibility to window the content in the ways that are optimal to us and optimal to our business model.' ESPN's "First Take" dove headfirst into the Indiana Fever vs. Connecticut Sun altercation on Wednesday morning. The Fever topped the Sun, 87-71, on Tuesday evening. During the third quarter, all hell broke loose, following a hard foul on Caitlin Clark. Advertisement Clark was hit in the eye by Sun guard Jacy Sheldon. She was then knocked to the ground by Sun forward Marina Mabrey. Sheldon received a Flagrant 1 foul for the play, while Clark was hit with a technical foul. The WNBA later upgraded Mabrey's foul to a Flagrant 2. WNBA fans were shocked that Mabrey was not ejected for her role. Wednesday morning, ESPN's "First Take," including Stephen A. Smith, Molly Qerim and Monica McNutt, discussed the incident at length. Smith, arguably the face of ESPN, believes that the incident was excessive. He believes that some WNBA players are targeting Clark with physical play. Meanwhile, McNutt felt that the only ejection-worthy play of the game was later in the contest, when Fever guard Sophie Cunningham fouled Sheldon hard. McNutt, 35, said that she was "OK" with everything that happened - outside of Cunningham's hard foul. Advertisement "I'm ok with it," McNutt said of how Mabrey's shove on the Indiana Fever star was handled, per ESPN. "I think you've got to look at the history, right?... There's history there [between Clark and Sheldon]. I'm not saying necessarily history in terms of it being nasty, but... you get a little scrum here, each teammate comes to their other teammate's rescue. Marina Mabrey, like I said, is someone who does not back down from this sort of thing, as well. "I thought it was adjudicated fairly. Could we have done without it? Yes. But I continue to say, competition is not always pretty and buttoned up... If you have a mic on [Caitlin Clark] during games, she's a trash talker, too," McNutt continued. "I'm okay with competition. I didn't like the play by Sophie Cunningham. I thought the teammates coming to their respective teammates in the first little scrum was okay. I did not like the play by Sophie Cunningham." Monica McNutt speaks on Images Fans of ESPN were not happy with McNutt's take on the situation, with some fans saying that they will not be watching her moving forward. Verlander remains winless in return to the San Francisco Giants after injury
Associated Press SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — It's the middle of June, and Justin Verlander is still looking for his first win with the San Francisco Giants. Verlander returned Wednesday night after being sidelined by a strained right pectoral muscle. The three-time AL Cy Young Award winner allowed four runs, three earned, and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings against Cleveland. 'It felt good to be back out there,' Verlander said. 'Obviously, was a bit inconsistent. Wanted to give us a better chance to win but stuff seemed OK and hopefully the inconsistency can clean up quickly.' It was the first major league appearance for the 42-year-old Verlander since May 18. He is 0-4 with a 4.45 ERA in 11 starts after finalizing a $15 million, one-year contract with San Francisco in January. Verlander was activated from the 15-day injured list, and catcher Patrick Bailey was reinstated from the 10-day IL. Right-hander Tristan Beck and catcher Logan Porter were optioned to Triple-A Sacramento. The 26-year-old Bailey is coming back from a strained neck. He started behind the plate and singled in his first two at-bats. 'His stuff overall was pretty good,' Bailey said about Verlander. 'Made some mistakes and they put some good swings on it." Verlander allowed a run in the first when Kyle Manzardo doubled and scored on Jose Ramirez's single. Verlander was hurt by a one-out error on second baseman Tyler Fitzgerald in the fourth. Lane Thomas followed with a single to center before Daniel Schneemann connected for a three-run homer on an 0-2 fastball. The nine-time All-Star struck out six and walked one. He threw 83 pitches, 56 for strikes. 'It was really the three-run homer that got him,' Giants manager Bob Melvin said. 'It was just getting the ball up probably not where he wanted to. He was pitching around some traffic at times. I expect him to be a little crisper next time out.' Verlander has a 262-150 career record and could conceivably join the 300-win club next season. For now, he was just happy to get back on the mound it what has been a difficult season for the three-time Cy Young Award winner. ″This season's been a mental challenge just kind of trying to find my groove,' Verlander said.
