Ange Postecoglou reaction — Spurs boss finds it "really weird talking about my future" after winning trophy

NBC Sports25-05-2025
Ange Postecoglou is sick and tired of being asked about his future after leading Tottenham Hotspur to Europa League glory this week, but who else could possibly field such questions about who the club's manager will be going forward — besides chairman Daniel Levy?
SPURS 1-4 BRIGHTON — Video highlights & recap
Spurs slumped to a club-record 22nd defeat in the Premier League on Sunday as they closed out the 2024-25 season in all-too-familiar fashion, but Postecoglou's side began brightly less than 48 hours after celebrating the Europa League trophy in an open-top bus parade around north London.
Ange Postecoglou reaction — How did Spurs boss react after season-ending defeat to Brighton?
'I'll be honest, I've been finding it really weird talking about my future when we've done something unprecedented. I've got to answer the questions because nobody else is in a position to do so. Part of me is thinking, why am I even being asked the question? I've got no doubt, though, that this could be a really defining moment for this club. Wherever I've been, I've made an impact for a club after they haven't tasted it for a while and they push on, even after I've gone.'

"[We can push on] if we get some good experience in the transfer window. I'm not talking age, so much as experience at this level. Every club that gets into the Champions League sees it as a chance to strengthen with players who are comfortable at that level, not stepping up to the level.'
'I think [vice-captain Cristian] Romero is absolutely important to keep at this football club. You just saw the way he's been in recent games, and he hasn't been entirely fit with his toe. The lads respect him highly and he makes them walk taller. For me, it's a no-brainer with players like him. If he goes, who do you replace him with? There aren't a lot of players out there like him. It's very important to keep him, and for the long term.'

MORE — Tottenham Hotspur confirm torn ACL for James Maddison 'Defender Levi Colwill has today undergone successful surgery to an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Medical assessments confirmed surgery would be the required course of action. Colwill injury a big blow for Chelsea, Maresca While Chelsea are (beyond) fully loaded in the attacking positions, Enzo Maresca doesn't have quite as many natural defenders at his disposal. Colwill was Chelsea's most-present defender in the Premier League last season (3,150 minutes) with Tosin Adarabioyo and Wesley Fofana, the Blues' next most-used center backs, down at 1,405 and 1,176 respectively. Fofana hopes to be ready for the start of the season next weekend after undergoing hamstring surgery this offseason and Trevoh Chalobah (911 after being recalled from loan in January) is the only other one to play 350 minutes at center back in the PL.

Thomas Frank: Spurs ‘need to look into' James Maddison replacement, Dominic Solanke available ‘quite soon'

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Thomas Frank has said the club 'need to look into' a replacement for James Maddison after his 'devastating' anterior cruciate ligament injury. Frank spoke after Tottenham's friendly 4-0 defeat to Bayern Munich after the club confirmed earlier on Thursday that the 28-year-old midfielder requires surgery on the right knee injury he sustained during Sunday's game against Newcastle United. Advertisement 'We are definitely in the market in general,' Frank said when asked if the injury escalates their search for a No 10. 'Of course, when players get a long term injury we need to look into that. '(The injury is) devastating news for the team and for Maddison. No doubt that we will miss him, and he will miss us.' Sunday's match against Newcastle was only Maddison's second game back since the 2024-25 season was cut short for him through a knee injury. Frank also provided injury updates on Dejan Kulusevski who will be 'out for a long time' and Destiny Udogie, who he says they will know more about in the next couple of days but is 'not worried' about. The head coach also said Dominic Solanke will be available 'quite soon', he hopes for the start of the season. Tottenham's first game of the Premier League season will be against Burnley on August 16. They next play in the Super Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain on August 13. Spot the pattern. Chelsea defender Levi Colwill undergoes ACL surgery

LONDON (AP) — Chelsea defender Levi Colwill could miss a big portion of the upcoming season after undergoing surgery Thursday for a torn ACL. The 22-year-old center-back, a mainstay in Enzo Maresca's lineups last season, sustained the knee injury early this week in pre-season training, the Premier League club said. 'Levi will now begin his recovery and be supported by the club's medical department at Cobham during his rehabilitation phase,' the team said in a statement. The England international made 35 Premier League starts last season for Chelsea, which qualified for the Champions League. He also helped the team win the Club World Cup title last month — keeping Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembélé in check — and earlier the UEFA Conference League title. ___ AP soccer:
