New York Jets place former FSU star on PUP list
The New York Jets have placed edge Jermaine Johnson on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. He will be able to attend meetings and use the team facilities, but is not allowed to practice while on the PUP List and he can be activated at any point once he is ready.
Johnson is recovering from a torn Achilles that he suffered on Sept. 15 in their game against the Tennessee Titans. He took to social media to share that his recovery is going well and they "want to move slow."
"I will be on PUP because the team wants to move slow to be safe, which I agree with. Not because I'm not ready. All is well," he wrote.
He is entering his fourth year with the Jets after they took him with the 26th overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft. He made the 2023 Pro Bowl after making 55 tackles, 11.0 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, defending seven passes, and returning one interception for a touchdown. He has played in 33 games and made 19 starts, recording 88 tackles, 10.0 sacks, 15.0 tackles for loss, and 21 quarterback hits.
He also shared a video of himself working out on the field, where he was able to run and execute some drills.

Former Titan Taylor Lewan hints at 'side story' behind why Kentucky star Will Levis delayed surgery
Cam Ward was selected as the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans, but from the beginning, he has been one of the least talked-about No. 1 picks in recent memory. Ward carried plenty of hype coming out of college, but that buzz has largely faded. "He's the least talked about, under-the-radar No. 1 pick I think in the history of football... Let's go back to last year's draft. He would've been in the mix... I think he would've been my 3rd QB,' NFL analyst Chris Simms said. Following a season-ending injury to quarterback Will Levis, the starting job now appears to be Ward's as training camp gets underway. 'With Will Levis out for the year, No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward is now poised to become the Titans' starting quarterback, despite the fact that the team has not named him its starter,' ESPN's Adam Schefter wrote. However, with the injury news coming so late, former Titan Taylor Lewan believes there may be more to the story regarding Levis' delayed announcement. 'I'm sure there's a side to the story that explains why Will waited until late July to get this surgery. Unfortunately, I'm too dumb to figure out what that is,' Lewan posted. Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp Lewan implies there could be a deeper reason why Levis waited until training camp to speak up. Clay Travis shared similar skepticism about the timing of Levis' surgery. 'I'd be curious to know when Will Levis knew he needed surgery. Because waiting until the start of training camp to have the surgery instead of during the past 7 months of offseason feels spiteful,' Travis wrote. The real reason remains unclear — maybe Levis could no longer manage the pain. Or perhaps, as training camp approached, he realized he wasn't going to be the guy and struggled to accept it. Regardless of the motive, one thing is certain: the Titans are now in the market for a backup quarterback.

Shane Steichen provides injury update on Colts' LB Zaire Franklin
After Monday's practice, Shane Steichen provided an injury update on Colts' LB Zaire Franklin. After undergoing offseason ankle surgery, Indianapolis Colts' linebacker Zaire Franklin hasn't practiced during training camp yet. But Shane Steichen believes he is close to returning. "Really close," Steichen said of Franklin's return on Monday. "Hopefully we can get him at some point this week out there. That's the hope. But he's progressing well. Obviously, he's running and doing stuff. Hopefully, we get him back out there this week, is the hope." Along with missing the start of training camp, Franklin also missed OTA and minicamp practices due to the offseason surgery as well. With the Colts not placing Franklin on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list at the start of training camp, that was a sign that they didn't expect him to be out long. With Franklin sidelined, Cameron McGrone has been seeing his share of starting reps alongside of Jaylon Carlies. Franklin is coming off a career year, which included leading the NFL in tackles, along with setting career-highs in interceptions, sacks, and quarterback pressures. As a result, Franklin would make his first Pro Bowl and was named a second-team All-Pro. Playing next to Carlies, who brings a coverage presence to the position as a former college safety, along with operating within Lou Anarumo's defensive scheme, where there will be a greater reliance on defensive backs in coverage situations, Franklin could see more opportunities this season to play closer to the line of scrimmage, which is where he is at his best.
