Commuters express frustration as Pune shivneri bus takes longer than shared cab

Time of India18 hours ago
Mumbai: Travelling by the Mumbai-Pune Shivneri may not be a pleasant and comfortable experience. Recently, passengers were left fuming as the journey was delayed by over two hours to travel from Mumbai to Pune on this popular intercity AC bus.
"It is a complete waste of time. A shared cab would have cost Rs 400 but reached in three hours. Instead, I was sitting inside the bus, which halted at many stops en route, and the wait time was longer as well. It reached Pune in five and a half hours," recalled a passenger who boarded the bus from Dadar. "Why are there too many stops in Mumbai before the bus hits the Expressway? And then, a 20-minute scheduled halt on the Expressway?" he said.
A passenger said that the bus is also not good compared to the Rs 590 fare one pays for the journey. "Imagine there is a road with no traffic jams, and the bus still prefers to halt for a long duration in Mumbai after leaving Dadar depot. It's frustrating," the passenger recalled.
Sources said that the bus keeps waiting for passengers en route if seats continue to remain vacant after leaving Dadar depot. When contacted, an MSRTC official said that the matter will be looked into.

The official further said that if one booked a Pune bus via Atal Setu, there were no issues or complaints. "We have found that buses using the route through Vashi bridge-Nerul-Kharghar are facing this problem of unwarranted stoppages en route," he said.
The MSRTC wants to deploy more buses on the Atal Setu to expedite journeys for passengers in the near future.

Passengers have also complained of rash driving by some of the drivers on the Expressway and other roads.
It may be recalled that a few months ago, 12 passengers of a Mumbai-Pune Shivneri bus escaped unharmed in a mishap in which the bus climbed on the road divider in Sion. The e-Shivneri bus started from the Dadar bus stand around 5.30 am, and when it was crossing the flyover near Sion police station, the bus swerved a bit and jumped on the divider.
While the exact cause is not known, officials said that the driver was not drunk nor "half asleep" when the incident occurred, an MSRTC official claimed after the incident. The driver was, however, taken off duty for 10 days.
Passengers have also complained in the past about a few cases of drivers speaking on mobile phones.

Pakistan Lost Rs 4.1 Billion After Airspace Ban On Indian Flights: Report

Islamabad: Pakistan's airport body suffered a loss of Rs 4.1 billion in over two months due to the closure of airspace for Indian airlines, according to official data. Pakistan and India closed their respective airspaces for each other's airlines following the deadly Pahalgam terrorist attack in Kashmir on April 22, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists. The airspace ban was extended after ties between the two countries deteriorated due to the four-day conflict as India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 and destroyed terror infrastructure in territories controlled by Pakistan. The Ministry of Defence informed the National Assembly on Friday that the closure of airspace to Indian-registered aircraft has cost the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) a loss of Rs 4.1 billion, reported the Dawn newspaper. The ministry said the shortfall, from April 24 to June 30, was in overflying revenue. It added that the amounts reflected "revenue shortfalls, not overall financial losses" and noted that overflight and aeronautical charges remained unchanged. Pakistan's airspace is open to all except Indian airlines and aircraft. Similarly, Pakistani carriers remain banned from Indian airspace.

Gujarat CM reviews development projects in Vadnagar

Ahmedabad, Aug 11 (PTI) Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Monday conducted an on-site inspection of key developmental projects being implemented by the state government and the Centre in Vadnagar city, known for its historical and archaeological heritage. Patel inspected the progress of the multi-model transport hub being developed by the Gujarat Tourism Corporation opposite the Vadnagar railway station, and instructed officials to ensure proper coordination between the Railways and the tourism department, an official release stated. To strengthen tourism facilities, a multi-modal transport hub and public plaza — linking Vadnagar railway station with the city's major attractions — is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 17 crore. The project will feature amenities such as parking, rest areas, and a cafeteria, along with the plantation of more than 2,000 trees across the premises. As part of the Swadesh Darshan Scheme of the Centre, the government is developing key heritage sites in Vadnagar, including Sharmishtha Lake, Tana Riri Park, Lateri Stepwell, Ambaji Kotha Lake, the railway station, and Fort Wall. The chief minister also visited the site of L&T Construction Skills Training Institute (CSTI), which is being built on 37,628 sq metres of land allotted by the state government, with an open practical yard of 4,000 sq metres. The CSTI will impart technical education and vocational training to youths in 14 different fields, the release stated. Patel also offered prayers at the historic Hatkeshwar Mahadev Temple. Various facilities for pilgrims were recently built at the temple at a cost of Rs 22.22 crore, it stated.
