Dramatic moment cops raid LA home of Netflix star pastor in sex-trafficking probe

Daily Mail4 days ago
A California home linked to a ' TikTok cult pastor' was raided by federal agents as part of a probe into sex trafficking.
Robert Shinn, pastor of the Shekinah Church and the subject of a Netflix documentary, had an address linked to him in Tujunga raided on Friday.
Authorities executed warrants related to allegations of sex trafficking, tax evasion, mail fraud, money laundering and Covid-19 related fraud, according to KTLA.
Several people were detained at the home, at least six people could be seen handcuffed in helicopter footage captured by the outlet of the raid.
Shinn founded the church in 1994 and founded a talent management firm named 7M Films which was formed 'to help social media stars and TikTok dancers find jobs'.
The Netflix series, titled 'Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult', centered on the property and accusations that Shinn had abused and manipulated former members.
It examined stories and lawsuits relating to the church and the company, some of which accused Shinn of sexual assault. No charges were brought against him
Neighbor Jake Hartmann spoke with the LA Times, saying he heard flash-bangs being let off in the early hours on Friday.
He said: 'I was getting ready for work when I heard the flash-bangs go off. Then a loud speaker, "you need to come out, hands up".'
An unknown man who exited the property on Friday told a Times reporter that the raid was 'just a misunderstanding'.
Officials in the Golden State have not confirmed if anyone was arrested during the raid.
Shinn was accused of indoctrinating members with his religious ideology while profiting from their talents by claiming a portion of their income in the documentary.
One member, Miranda Derrick, serves as the documentary's focus, with her family claiming she was brainwashed by Shinn and encouraged to abandon her family.
Derrick later took to her Instagram and branded the series as being 'one-sided' and assured her fans that she is 'not a victim'.
Shinn never personally responded to the Netflix series, but his company 7M posted on Instagram branding it a 'slanderous work of fiction'.
It added: 'We will continue to pursue all legal remedies available to stop the spread of salacious lies and expect to be fully vindicated in court.'
CNN reported that Shinn filed a defamation suit against former members, claiming they had made false statements about the group and had tried to cancel him.
Defendants in the case then joined with other members against Shinn and his wife, alleging 'fraud, forced labor and human trafficking'.
The countersuit alleged Shinn had been responsible for 'brainwashing, physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, manipulation and exploitation'.
KTLA reported that a trial has been set to start in October, authorities would not say if the raid was in connection with controversy surrounding the Netflix series.

Delta airlines employee stole an iPad left on plane by child and used it to upload explicit videos of himself, suit claims

A South Carolina couple filed a federal lawsuit against Delta Air Lines after discovering sexually explicit videos on their child's lost iPad that were allegedly recorded by an airline worker. Tory and Brooke Brewer came across the graphic content that had been saved in the family's iCloud account, according to the lawsuit filed July 16 in the U.S. District Court in Charleston. According to the lawsuit, the family took a Delta flight from Charleston to New York City's John F. Kennedy international airport on July 19, 2023, before connecting to a flight to London. After they had arrived in London, they realized they had left behind their child's iPad with a Peppa Pig case on the plane, in the seat pocket. The child's mother then began receiving random messages about the missing device so she used the 'Find My' app, and tracked the iPad to Queens/Jamaica, New York. Although her Apple ID had been logged out, photos continued to sync to the iCloud account, which included selfies of a man wearing a Delta uniform and a visible name badge. His name was not revealed in the lawsuit. On July 20, 2023, the family filed a lost item report with Delta. Between the time of the first report and August 27, the Brewers never received a response from the airline worker. Then on August 27, pornographic videos began appearing in Brewer's iCloud account. The videos allegedly show the same man from the selfies masturbating while still wearing his Delta uniform and name badge. 'What should have been a fun family getaway was riddled with confusion and anxiety over unauthorized access to their personal devices, a breach of privacy, and the transmission of highly inappropriate, explicit video recordings sent through their child's personal devices – something they never would have expected,' the family's attorney, Tola Familoni, said in the lawsuit. The Brewers learned that the man had used the iPad to access Brooke Brewer's iTunes account and create his own personal profile. He also managed to get into the Brewers' Amazon account and created a profile titled 'Gay' that one of the couple's young children discovered and alerted them to. In the lawsuit, the Brewers say they are seeking damages and accountability, claiming Delta failed to respond meaningfully to their concerns before the suit was filed. They accuse Delta of negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, harassment, and other claims stemming from the incident. A statement from Delta said: 'The accused individual is not a Delta employee but one of a vendor company' that it did not identify. Delta said in its statement that the airline has 'zero tolerance for unlawful behavior of any kind but will decline to comment further on this pending litigation.' A second report was filed with Delta, according to the lawsuit. The family says Delta failed to acknowledge the first report and responded to the second with an automated, 'no reply' email. 'We would have hoped, if not publicly, at least personally they would have acknowledged their role and responsibility for what happened to this family,' Familoni told The Guardian. 'We hope that Delta will step up and take responsibility, speak to the family, and acknowledge their wrongdoing.'

Victims of Reno casino shooting include 2 men visiting for a bachelor party, police say

Two of the three people killed this week in a shooting outside the largest casino in Reno, Nevada, were 23-year-old men in town celebrating a bachelor party and the third victim was a 66-year-old man who lived in the area, authorities said. The suspect, who is in critical condition after being shot by police, was identified Tuesday as Dakota Hawver, a 26-year-old Reno resident. Investigators have found no connections between Hawver and the Grand Sierra Resort or any of the victims, according to police in the neighboring town of Sparks who are leading the investigation. They said the motive is still unknown. Two other people wounded in Monday's shooting remained hospitalized but were expected to make a full recovery, police said in a statement Tuesday. Justin Aguila and Andrew Canepa, both 23 years old and from Southern California, were fatally shot from behind while waiting in the casino's valet area for a ride to the airport, officials said. They had been visiting with a group of friends for a bachelor party. Angel Martinez, a 66-year-old Reno resident, was driving his car through the parking lot when he was shot and killed by the suspect, who had been hiding behind a parked vehicle, police said. Investigators determined Hawver used multiple magazines and fired approximately 80 rounds from a 9mm handgun that he had legally purchased two years ago. He has no criminal record and no history of mental health problems, officials said Tuesday. The investigation is ongoing. The shooting occurred around 7:30 a.m. Monday, when the gunman walked up to the valet area, pulled out the gun and pointed it at a group of people, police said. His weapon initially malfunctioned, but he was quickly able to get it to shoot multiple times before running through the parking lot, where he encountered an armed casino security guard. The gunman opened fire on the guard, who returned fire as the shooter fled again before being shot by police and arrested, police said Monday. In addition to those who were killed and the people taken to the hospital, three others were treated for minor injuries at the casino, according to Devon Reese, chair of the Board of Health in northern Nevada. One person was grazed by a bullet on their pinky finger, one was treated for severe anxiety and one was injured while running, he said Monday. The Grand Sierra Resort, one of Reno's most prominent venues, has hosted concerts, sporting events and a campaign rally by President Donald Trump before the 2024 election. Near the California border and just northeast of Lake Tahoe, the town is a popular summer tourist destination. The resort claims to have the biggest casino floor in northern Nevada and sits just a few blocks from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. It's also one of the tallest buildings in the city, with nearly 2,000 hotel rooms.

Inside the charmed life of Kurt Cobain's daughter Frances Bean and Tony Hawk's son Riley as they enjoy romance

Riley Hawk and Frances Bean Cobain have been enjoying a 'quiet' life since they welcomed their first child together last year. On Wednesday, Riley, the son of Tony Hawk and a professional skateboarder himself, opened up about their first year of parenthood and their family life together with their famous in-laws. Riley, 32, and Frances — the daughter of Courtney Love and the late Kurt Cobain — got married in October 2023 and welcomed their first child together, son Ronin, in September 2024. 'We just do our own thing,' Riley, a first-time dad, told People about the legacy each of their family carries. This comes after Tony Hawk left fans in tears with an emotional reflection about the late Nirvana frontman never meeting their shared grandson. 'We don't really think too much about it, honestly, other than the fact that we do stuff like this with a video game, or whatever it may be, or something regarding her side of the family,' he continued as he mentioned his appearance in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4. He added: 'But other than that, we're just a very quiet stay-at-home family. We just hang out.' Riley also noted that their son is 'learning every day' as they enjoy 'growing as a family.' Riley also said that his father helps out a lot and is enjoying being a first-time grandpa. 'My dad helps a lot and it's really cool that we get to all hang out together,' he said. 'It's just a cool thing for him to get to hang out with his grandson a lot. That's kind of where we're at, just taking it day by day.' He also said that being a first-time father himself is 'really cool' and has brought him and his own dad even closer. 'I'm just super grateful that my ad gave me the freedom to do certain things that I wanted to, like skateboarding or whatever it may be,' he continued. 'And that's all I can hope to do for my son, is just give him the opportunity if something interests them or they fall in love with a certain sport or hobby,' he said. 'I feel like, as a parent, [that's] all you can hope to do.' Riley also said that his father helps out a lot and is enjoying being a first-time grandpa. Last September saw the iconic skateboarder, 56, become a first-time grandpa after his son Riley and his wife Frances welcomed their baby boy Ronin into the world. At the time, Kurt's daughter — whom the Nirvana frontman shared with Courtney Love before his death in 1994 — dropped the surprise update via Instagram and wrote: '9.17.2024 Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk. Welcome to the world most beautiful son. We love you more than anything.' Months later, Tony took time to share his grief over the loss of family moments they would never get to share. Taking to his Instagram story, he posted a picture of a ticket stub from a Nirvana concert he attended back in October 1991, in Houston, Texas. Reflecting on the night, he wrote: 'Went straight from a S.U.A.S. event at Houston Skatepark to this concert in 1991. 'It was as transformative as live music can possibly be; we all experienced something rare and powerful that night. The world would never be the same.' He then noted how much it hurt to no longer have Kurt in the world as he continued: 'I wish Kurt were here so he could see the incredible woman his daughter has become, meet her devoted, caring husband, and hold our wondrous grandchild.'
