Air India crash victim's son moves US court against Boeing, seeks swift justice
Speaking to ANI on Tuesday, Prajapati said his family has engaged US-based aviation lawyer Mike Andrews to represent them. 'We have hired Mike Andrews. We expect the raw details of information from the black box to come before us at the earliest so that we can decide our next steps along with our lawyer. In India, trials get dragged out for years. We are fighting the case in the US so that a decision is pronounced early,' he said.
Prajapati expressed his gratitude towards the Indian government, police, and doctors for their support after the tragedy. 'We believe we will get justice. When the incident happened, the government helped us a lot. The police also helped us. We are thankful to the doctors too, who handed over the bodies to us after a swift DNA test,' he said.
Recounting the events leading to his mother's ill-fated journey, Prajapati revealed how her travel plans changed multiple times before she finally boarded the doomed flight. 'I had initially booked a June 9 flight for her, but she had a fast that day. So, I rescheduled it to June 11. Then she told me she didn't want to travel on an odd date. I finally booked her ticket for June 12,' he recalled.
On Monday evening, families of the victims held a candlelight vigil to mark two months since the disaster. Mike Andrews, who represents more than 65 victim families, joined the remembrance. 'Today marks the two-month anniversary of this tragedy. It has been a very difficult day for everyone involved. The families organised a candlelight vigil to stand in remembrance. We are thankful and grateful to have been invited… The families are back now, searching for answers,' he told ANI.

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri arrived in Kolkata for the trailer launch of his much-awaited film, The Bengal Files. However, things took an unexpected turn when the scheduled screening at PVR-INOX was abruptly cancelled. The event was then shifted to a private banquet hall in a five-star hotel, but that didn't change the outcome. The trailer screening was halted midway, not once, but twice, with Kolkata Police intervening to stop the launch. 'There are two constitutions in India, one Indian Constitution and another that runs here,' Agnihotri said at the event. If rumours are true, the trailer launch ran into trouble over securing permission from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. However, Agnihotri denied such rumours. 'We have paid all the money, done all the tests here. Today in Bengal, the police are being used for some people's political ambition. This tolabaji will not work with me. My name is Vivek Agnihotri. I cannot be silenced,' he said. After the screening was halted for the first time, Agnihotri alleged that the hotel's wires had been cut to prevent them from showcasing the trailer. Agnihotri alleged that some people came and cut wires. 'Have you ever seen anyone stop an event in a private hotel? I don't know who is doing it and why. Any Indian, Bengali will get to know about the uncovered truth after watching The Bengal Files. Who are these people who don't want people to know this? You already know the answer.' Elaborating on why he chose Kolkata, not any other city, for the release of the trailer despite repeated obstructions, the filmmaker argued that - 'If a film is made on the Dandi March, then where should it be launched?" "This film is about uniting people of Bharat. I don't know why someone would try to suppress this.' Pallavi Joshi, who is a part of the film cast and also the film producer, chimed in, "Yes, it is true that it would have been more convenient for us to launch this trailer somewhere else. People would have been able to watch it too. In fact, it would have been even more convenient if we had not made Bengal Files at all—if we had just made a love story with big stars. But why are we making these kinds of films? "The reason is that in this space, making a movie on this subject is very necessary. The audience will know what has happened to Bharat.' The Bengal Files will be released in theatres on 5 September.

CID Roped In For Bula Chowdhury's Padma Shri Award Theft Case
Last Updated: West Bengal CID is investigating the theft of Bula Chowdhury's Padma Shri and other awards from her Hooghly home. Chowdhury criticized local police for inadequate prevention. The West Bengal Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been assigned to investigate the theft of the Padma Shri award belonging to Bula Chowdhury, an internationally acclaimed former Indian swimmer and Arjuna Award winner. The theft occurred on Friday at Chowdhury's ancestral home in Hind-Motor, Hooghly district, including several other awards, trophies, and medals. Initial investigations suggest that the theft might have been committed by locals who had been closely monitoring the house to find the right moment to strike. According to state police insiders, a couple of individuals have already been detained for questioning. Although Chowdhury, a former CPI-M legislator from 2006 to 2011, currently resides in Kasba, South Kolkata, her awards were displayed at her ancestral home in Hind-Motor. She visited her ancestral residence weekly to check on the upkeep of her awards and trophies. On Friday, it was discovered that her Padma Shri shield was missing from its place. Subsequently, more awards, trophies, and medals were found to be stolen. Chowdhury and her family have asserted that the theft could have been prevented if the local police had shown more diligence in safeguarding the property, given the significant number of awards stored there. 'I earned those medals after a lot of hard work and struggle. Now most of them have been stolen. My question for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is, why could the police not ensure the prevention of that robbery?" Chowdhury said on Friday. Milan Chowdhury, Bula's brother who resides at the Hind-Motor house, mentioned that there had been three prior robbery attempts at the residence. 'Each time, police complaints were registered, and routine investigations were conducted. However, the subsequent robbery attempts did not cease. Andhra Pradesh: Man kidnapped class 8 girl over fathers debt, held
Prakasam (Andhra Pradesh) [India], August 16 (ANI): A man allegedly kidnapped a Class 8 girl in Chimakurthy mandal of Prakasam district to force her father to 'repay" a loan of Rs 5 lakh, police said on accused, identified as R Eswar Reddy of Tirupati, was arrested after an to police, Srinivasa Rao, while working as a labourer in Tirupati, had borrowed Rs 5 lakh from accused Eswar Reddy. Since Rao failed to repay the amount, Reddy decided to target his Friday, after Independence Day celebrations, Reddy went to the school where the girl studied. He convinced her to come with him, saying that her father had sent him to take her home. He then made her sit on his bike, promised her sweets, and diverted her route to Chimakurthy district Inspector Subbarao said, 'The accused, Eswar Reddy, was apprehended for kidnapping the girl. He had developed a friendship with Srinivasa Rao due to money transactions, and the girl also recognised him because of her father's association. Using that trust, he took her away."The accused, called Srinivasa Rao and threatened to kill the girl if he failed to return the loan. The parents immediately lodged a complaint with the Chimakurthy Police Station, Inspector said.'We formed special teams and successfully arrested him. A case has been registered," he the help of CCTV footage, the Special police teams tracked girl was rescued safely and reunited with her family. A case was registered for kidnapping and issuing investigation is ongoing. (ANI)
