Man in US illegally uses another identity for job in Winter Haven: PCSO
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (WFLA)— A man who is in the United States illegally has been arrested after he used another man's identification to work at a Winter Haven Business, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.
Edgar Robles, 44, was taken into custody by PCSO and charged with four fraud-related felonies on Tuesday, March 25.
According to PCSO, the victim discovered that his identity was being used for employment at Carpenter Contractors of America in Winter Haven on January 26.

Detectives went to the business where the human resource department provided them with documentation showing the victim's name, date of birth, and copies of their social security card and passport card.
PCSO said the victim told deputies he lost his wallet in Plant City a few years ago and his social security card and passport identification were inside the wallet at the time.
Robles had been employed by the company since March of 2024 and was receiving around $27,000 in wages.
'Identity theft can be a very difficult and time-consuming for someone to recover from. Had our suspect left the country when he was supposed to, this crime may have never occurred against the victim,' said Sheriff Grady Judd.
According to PCSO, a representative from Immigration and Customs Enforcement reported that Robles entered the U.S. in April 2019 under an H2A Visa until June 2019, but he remained in the country illegally and was listed as a non-immigrant overstay.
Robles charges amount to three felonies, but due to him being an unauthorized alien, each charge is enhanced by one degree, deputies said.
Robles is charged with obtaining property by fraud, utter false instruments, criminal use of personal information, and unlawful possession of personal information.

DENVER (KDVR) — Police say that 18 people were arrested during anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement protests that started at the State Capitol Tuesday evening. Police records indicate that officers believed some of the protestors were trying to make Molotov cocktails. Police arrest records show people were arrested for, among other things, obstruction of a roadway, failure to obey a lawful order, graffiti and second-degree assault of an officer. Over a dozen arrested in Denver Tuesday during ICE protest; police use smoke, pepper balls The protest was mostly peaceful, according to Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas. '(I'm) Disappointed, though, that there were agitators in the crowd that really wanted to try to taunt the police, create dangerous situations for the community,' Thomas said. Tensions grew as the crowd left the Capitol grounds and headed toward Broadway and Interstate 25. There was concern that the protestors would walk onto the interstate. 'Our first tactic was to use smoke as a deterrent and let them know that we are serious. We don't want to continue with the activity that you're engaged in right now. That was effective in getting a number of people to leave the area and stop their attempts to gain access to the highway,' Thomas said. The crowds in Colorado were protesting ICE raids taking place in Los Angeles and across the U.S. A spokesperson said they wanted to show their support for protestors in California. About 500 National Guard troops in LA are trained to accompany agents on immigration raids In one instance, arrest records show a protester scratched an officer, which led to an assault charge. 'They will be the cases that we'll see more attention from prosecutors and courts in terms of holding individuals responsible,' FOX31 Legal Analyst Christopher Decker said. However, Colorado 50501, which is planning the 'No Kings' events for Trump's birthday, said that it did not participate in planning the march on Tuesday night, but did promote the nonviolent march and peaceful protest, 'in support of immigration rights and demanding an end to the criminal executive overreach of the current administration.' The organization said that a group 'splintered' at the end of the peaceful event and proceeded to protest into the evening, which 50501 said was not represenative of the group's values. 'We wholeheartedly support everyone's right to protest,' the group wrote. 'This fundamental freedom is a pillar of democracy and a vital expression of invidual and collective voices.' The group said it will continue to commit to nonviolence, inclusivity and conflict resolution. DPD said pepper balls were also fired at the ground to create a deterrent and break up the crowds. The 700 Marines deployed to Los Angeles by President Donald Trump have not yet hit the streets and are instead on standby and carrying out nonlethal training. Dozens of Marines were captured on aerial footage Tuesday practicing hand-to-hand combat and crowd control on Seal Beach field, just south of L.A. County. Trump activated the Marines and about 4,000 National Guards after violent mobs took to the streets over the weekend, burning and damaging property while some threw rocks and Molotov cocktails at law enforcement. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman sent a strong warning Wednesday to those behind the recent riot violence: "We will track you down. We will arrest you. We will prosecute you. And we will punish you." Standing with LA Sheriff Robert Luna and LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell, Hochman announced felony charges against several rioters accused of attacking officers, looting stores and vandalizing public property. More arrests and charges are expected in the coming days. "Let me provide some bad news for you," Hochman said. "There's a tremendous amount of video out there through social media, and otherwise we will know who you are, who engaged in this conduct. … So, for people who've already engaged in this, in this illegal activity, we're coming for you." Deputies say they found paint buckets and a large roller pole in their car. "These are not protesters," said Sheriff Luna. What we're talking about are the individuals who don't care about the issue at hand." Luna praised the district attorney for taking fast action, assigning a special prosecutor to focus on crimes against law enforcement. He also noted help from federal agencies, with some suspects possibly facing federal charges. Chief McDonnell revealed some of the dangers officers have faced in recent days. He said officers have been targeted with fireworks, Molotov cocktails and even mortars. "This is no longer a protest when commercial-grade fireworks are being used as weapons, and our officers are under direct attack," he said. "That's not free speech. That's a felony. "We will facilitate all peaceful First Amendment activity," said Sheriff Luna. "But when you have people that are out here to commit acts of violence, against our deputy sheriffs or police officers or, just, they're destroying our city.
