Inter-State robbery gang of three busted in Kochi
The arrested persons are Saikul, 32, from Bharatpur, Rajasthan; Najeer, 33, from Mewat, Haryana and Sadam, 38, from Nuh, Haryana.
'We suspect they are part of a larger and well-organised robbery syndicate operating out of Haryana. A detailed probe is under way,' a police officer said.
Last year, a Rajasthan-based gang stole ATMs along with the cash in Thrissur and left the state in a truck. They were nabbed in an encounter later. Police are checking whether these gangs are connected to each other.

35 stone crushers sealed near Ganga in Haridwar after high court order
Haridwar: A stone crushers sealing committee set up by the Haridwar district magistrate following a high court directive, sealed 35 units along the Ganga river in Haridwar and disconnected their electricity supply during sealing operations targeting 48 stone crushers on Friday. The matter came to light when Haridwar-based Matri Sadan, an ashram involved in environmental protection, approached the Nainital high court in 2017 regarding stone crushers operating within five kilometres of the Ganga river, from Raiwala to Bhogpur, raising concerns of rampant quarrying threatening the sustainability of the river. Although the Uttarakhand govt permitted the crushers to operate based on the law department's legal counsel, Matri Sadan contested this decision as "unlawful and unconstitutional" and filed another petition in the high court, which ultimately mandated the sealing of all 48 stone crushing units. They also alleged that the mining lobby could attack its seers and the govt should provide Matri Sadan security, which had been lifted earlier. District mining officer Kazim Raza told TOI, "We sealed 35 stone crushers on Friday and disconnected their electricity connections. We had closed their online portal earlier so they're unable to issue challans. The rest of the stone crushers will be sealed on Saturday." Brahmchari Sudhanand, a seer of Matri Sadan involved in the litigation, said, "All stone crushers lying within five kilometres of the Ganga and other rivers in the district should be closed, as they are the root cause of illegal mining in the rivers. We will put this demand before the court at the next hearing."

Centre to withdraw order granting release of film Udaipur files, Delhi HC told
The Centre on Friday (August 1, 2025) informed the Delhi High Court that it was withdrawing its decision granting nod to the release of the film Udaipur Files - Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder, and will take a decision on the revision petitions 'afresh'. The court, which was hearing two pleas challenging the Centre's decision allowing the release of the movie, directed the parties to appear before the government on August 4 and make their submissions. The court was informed by the counsel for the film's producer that the movie is scheduled to be released on August 8 and they would take some time for making arrangements for releasing it by engaging the theatres. The court took on record statement by Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma, representing the Central government as also the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), that the government will withdraw the earlier decision granting nod to the release of the film and 'take a decision on the revision petitions preferred by the petitioners afresh'. Noting the submissions, the court disposed of the two petitions filed by Mohammed Javed, one of the accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder case, and Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind president Maulana Arshad Madani. The Centre's counsel had said the film has undergone a two-step filter, first by the censor board, which suggested 55 cuts, and second by the committee, which further asked for six cuts, totalling 61 cuts. Javed's counsel objected to the release of the film on the ground that it would prejudice his case during the trial. Kanhaiya Lal, an Udaipur-based tailor in Rajasthan, was murdered in 2022, allegedly by Mohammad Riyaz and Mohammad Ghous, for sharing a social media post in support of former BJP leader Nupur Sharma after her controversial comments on Prophet Mohammed. The trial is pending before the special NIA court in Jaipur.
