BBC Call the Midwife responds as Olly Rix slams 'disrespectful' departure
Call the Midwife star Olly Rix previously said he didn't like the way he was treated by bosses after his character was axed from the BBC drama.
Since its debut in 2012, the BBC period drama Call the Midwife has seen a revolving door of characters, with Matthew Aylward (played by Olly Rix) emerging as a fan favourite in season 10.
His character won hearts, particularly when he began a romance with Trixie (Helen George), culminating in their marriage at the end of season 12.

Yet, viewers were left reeling last year when Matthew issued an ultimatum to his new wife to join him in New York following the loss of his inheritance.

Following Olly's surprising exit from the show, he was seen joining the cast of another BBC stalwart, Casualty, reports the Express.

At the time he left Call the Midwife, there were reports that the cast were "stunned and upset" by the decision to axe his character.

Olly has since opened up about his feelings regarding his departure, admitting to Hello! magazine that he was dissatisfied with how it was handled.
He said: "I'm very fortunate. Most jobs, I think of very fondly, but you do, of course, leave them in the past and move on and develop new work.
"With that project in particular, I didn't like the way it ended and I didn't think they treated me with much integrity or respect, and I didn't like that. I think it's just best left in the past and not discussed much more."

Nevertheless, a spokesperson for Call the Midwife has dismissed any suggestions of mistreatment in relation to Olly's release from the show.

The spokesperson told Metro: "We don't accept this. Call the Midwife is a drama that prides itself on providing a supportive, inclusive and nurturing filming environment, and we are known for the family atmosphere on our set.

"Series 15 is currently filming, and we look forward to sharing this exciting new series with our beloved audience."

RadioTimes has suggested that although Olly has departed from Call the Midwife, it doesn't rule out the possibility of his character making a return in future episodes.
Meanwhile, the 40-year-old actor has swapped roles, now portraying Flynn Byron in Casualty, a character who seems set to stay for an extended period.
Discussing his transition to Casualty, he shared with Hello!: "We've been filming for a year, and you've only had ten episodes. We have 40-something in the bank now. So, Flynn's not going anywhere."

There is arguably no swifter way to get a full house onside. Following a thunderous band overture of Hello, the veteran performer rose through a blanket of smoke, a clichéd showbiz entrance befitting the cheesiness of the song. And thus the soul pop cabaret of the Say Hello to the Hits tour commenced. Lionel Richie | Calum Buchan Richie mock-choked on his mention of his 50 years in music. He teased about the Scottish weather and joked about his ability to remember his words, then really did appear to stumble over the lyrics of Easy. But these were his songs and he was going to own them with a bit of tag team coverage from his band, manifesting Running with the Night in its full Eighties pomp. Lionel Richie at the Glasgow Hydro | Calum Buchan There was no denying the diversity of the catalogue, touching on reggae, Latin, R&B and rock influences, with The Commodores' smooth Sail On, sunshine optimism of You Are and sturdy funk of Brick House among the more satisfying renditions. Three Times a Lady may be the monster hit but Truly is the best of his piano ballads, arriving with a touch of old school melodrama, even if Richie quailed to belt it out. At least he had the audience to deputise for Diana Ross on Endless Love, but there was no hiding place on a nicely delivered Still. TV sports presenter reveals hospital health battle after ‘horrific' comments about her weight when she appeared on Formula One coverage

TV sports presenter Lee McKenzie has spoke out after being targeted by online trolls who made 'horrific' comments about her weight. McKenzie is a regularly presenter on both Channel 4 and the BBC and has worked on a variety of sports including F1, rugby and equestrian. The 47-year-old made an appearance for the broadcaster's coverage of the Spanish Grand Prix - in which Oscar Piastri claimed his fifth victory of the season - on Sunday. However, McKenzie's return was met by online trolls who commented on her physical appearance on the day and now the Channel 4 presenter has revealed that she had been struggling with 'health issues' in recent weeks. Taking to Facebook, she wrote: 'I've been thinking about whether I should post this but I will as it's not just about me, it's for all women and men too. 'Last month I went into hospital for an operation and I've been struggling with some health issues for a while now. 'As you see on here I'm a private person and I post about my work, not too much about life outside of work. I don't need or want attention or validation. 'But the comments about my appearance and weight at the Spanish Grand Prix have been horrific. I've had to turn off comments on my social media. It's worth saying they came from women and men alike. 'If you don't like what someone wears or looks like on television, feel free to think about it but why send it to them? Why contact someone to be deliberately rude? 'I'm a journalist and I'm good at my job and I'm furious that this affects me. But it does and there will be people out there getting similar abuse that are not as strong as me. Don't do it. 'The good news is that a larger operation that I thought I was going to get isn't needed at the moment and things can be treated with medication. Many people have this. It's not about being unwell. It's about the vile comments from women and men commenting on my appearance. 'My health is improving and I'm back at the gym. For me. Not for anyone else. Think before you write to someone'. The post has since been 'liked' by over 25,000 Facebook users and 22,000 of her Instagram followers. Accompanying the posts was a picture of McKenzie while at a previous F1 event and a selfie from the hospital bed - where she pose with a smile and a thumbs up. Elsewhere on the day, a dejected Lewis Hamilton made a brutal Ferrari admission after finishing sixth at the Spanish Grand Prix. The seven-time world champion is still waiting for his first podium since joining the Scuderia from Mercedes and was lost for words after his misery in Barcelona . Hamilton came home in seventh but was bumped up one place after Max Verstappen careered into George Russell , an incident which saw him demoted down to 10th. Unable to keep up with the two McLarens and Verstappen, Hamilton was told to let Charles Leclerc pass him early in the race, giving his team-mate a leg up as he went on to finish third, and he was overtaken by Nico Hulkenberg on the penultimate lap.

EastEnders fans distracted by outrageous detail in background of Albert Square scene - but can you spot it?

EastEnders viewers were distracted by an outrageous detail in the background of an Albert Square scene. An old episode of the BBC soap featured a particularly notable headline on a newspaper stand. According to a fan on Reddit, the headline for the fictional Walford Gazette seemed to be about chicken yoga. The viewer penned: 'I love finding these 'made up headlines'.' 'I couldn't help but notice the headline on Walford Gazette probably says 'Chicken Yoga Takes City By Storm',' they added, followed by three chicken emojis. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The fan went on, 'Seriously, Chickens do Yogas?' and ended with a laughing emoji. It's not the first time eagle-eyed viewers found themselves distracted by background details in the show. During an episode in April, Jean (Gillian Wright) entered her home and pushed a pram through the doorway. She left a voicemail for her granddaughter Lily and was trying to find out where she was. Jean was looking after Lily's daughter and her great-granddaughter, Charli. Though the pram appeared to be empty when she entered the house, the camera then panned to show Charli sat inside it. Some viewers noticed the blunder and took to social media to point it out. One posted on X: 'EastEnders are really getting lazy when it comes to checking their scenes before adding them into the episode cause tell me why Jean's pushing an empty f****** pushchair then suddenly a child's in it #EastEnders.' Someone commented: 'Omg I did not notice this lol!' Another said: 'I was laughing so much when I seen this big L from the camera man.' While a fourth wrote: 'I noticed this too.' Someone else said: 'Oh dear lol.' While another added: 'I was watching an old episode of Brookside and the same thing happened there too.' Elsewhere, fans all made the same joke after a glaring Sonia Fowler blunder during a live episode in February. The nurse (Natalie Cassidy) welcomed her baby girl into the world after she was trapped in the Queen Vic during the fire. Viewers were worried that the youngster wouldn't survive after staying quiet after being born. Some viewers noticed the blunder and took to social media to point it out Sonia, Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) and Lauren Branning (Jaqueline Jossa) were over the moon when she finally started crying amongst the drama. By the instalment many fans pointed out the same thing about Sonia's daughter - that she had some how managed to dramatically grow in size throughout the live ep. One wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: 'Sonia's baby has tripled in size within 5 mins… #EastEnders.'
