A fundraiser has been set up to raise money for Maria's family
A Gofundme page has been set up to help raise cash for the family of Maria Fernanda Rojaz Ortiz- a Chilean nurse who died in the crash.
The fundraiser has been set up to raise 7,500 euros for her family.
On the fundraiser set up by Julia Esteban it says translated from Spanish:
'It is with great sadness that we confirm the death of our beloved Feña, in a tragic accident that is still under investigation by the authorities.
'We know that the pain is immense and shared by the many people who loved her and supported her at different stages of her life.
'In the midst of this difficult time, we want to organize ourselves to support her family. This process entails many unexpected expenses—transfers, paperwork, possible travel, and everything necessary to give her a proper send-off.
'We're starting this charity fundraiser among friends, colleagues, and those close to Feña.
'The idea is to raise funds that will then be donated directly to her family, so they can use them for whatever they deem most necessary.
'We will be fully transparent in our reporting of the contributions received and, if the family allows it, how the funds were used.
'Thank you so much for being here, for the love, for the support, and for everything each of you has done during these difficult days.
'We embrace everyone who loved us and we'll stay in touch to support each other and stay organized.
'We love you Feña.'

American-based Clan Turnbull helps save historic Borders church

A call to help save a historic church from property developers has been answered by American descendants of a family with centuries-old links to the Parish Church at Bedrule - between Hawick and Jedburgh - is one of dozens of churches being closed and sold off across the region due to low community launched a fundraiser at the start of the year to meet the £35,000 asking price - and about half the money has come from the US-based Clan of the clan's ancestors were buried at the churchyard. Charlotte Maberly is among the local people heading up fundraising efforts at Bedrule Church Future (BCF).She said: "Americans are much more familiar with fundraising than us Brits are."For them, their sense of heritage is much stronger than people who are here." The current Bedrule church dates back to 1804, but many of the gravestones in the surrounding graveyard are from several centuries many of the headstones are memorials to members of the Turnbull family who originated in the the 15th and 16th Centuries, the Border Reiver families controlled lands on either side of what had become a lawless Anglo-Scottish the middle march, which now takes up most of the central and eastern Scottish Borders, the Turnbulls emerged as one of the most renowned and feared clans. With reducing congregations across the country, the Church of Scotland has been scaling back its places of worship over the past decade or Parish Kirk and neighbouring churches in Minto and Southdean are all being "disposed of" this and the wider community at Bedrule were informed in November of the decision, leading to the formation of a fundraising added: "Pubs have been closing, other communal spaces have been closing, and with all these different churches closing, we need to rethink how we create community cohesion rurally." Many former churches have already been turned into private dwellings - and there were fears that, if the asking price could not be raised, a property developer would snap up the listed with just days to go before the closing date, BCF, which has preferred bidder status, reached its target - with a big debt to the US-based clan describes the church as a "historic Turnbull landmark with a breath-taking view across the Rulewater Valley to Ruberslaw mountain"."The kirkyard, which holds the Turnbull cairn, is the final resting place of many of our ancestors," it added."The sanctuary of the church is a holy place where the power of the faith of our fathers is tangible." With the funding in place, meetings will now take place in the coming weeks and months to forge a plan for the building's future in a tiny village with just a couple of hundreds Bailey, who is also a trustee of BCF, said they would have to come up with an innovative use for the building."We don't have footfall around here," he said. "If you are a church in a town, you can become a café, a gym, a kids club."So we are going to have to be imaginative."

Parents could get free school meals for kids during summer holidays but they must apply NOW

PARENTS could get a helping hand with free school meals throughout the summer holidays. The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme will offer support worth £100s after it was given the green light to run for another financial year. 1 It is funded by the Department for Education but is administered by local authorities, so each area varies in its offerings. Martin Lewis, the Money Saving Expert, has issued a warning to parents to apply for the scheme ahead of the deadline. He warned that HAF isn't automatic and even if you've had help during previous school holidays, you will have to apply each time. Parents will need to apply for free school meals every year before the school year starts in September. Most local authorities offer to help families with children in receipt of benefits-related free school meals. But local councils are also allowed to offer help to children outside of this group. The HAF programme was rolled out in England in 2021, following successful pilots between 2018 and 2020. The government says research has found the school holidays can be "pressure points" for families, leading to a "holiday experience gap". Children from low-income households are less likely to get access to organised out-of-school activities, more likely to experience social isolation and see their nutrition and physical health suffer. The HAF programme looks to address this, by providing free food and activities to children. The initiative is mostly for Reception-aged children up to Year 11. The application process and what help you can get varies based on where you live. For example, Waltham Forest Council, in North East London, is offering holiday clubs and a daily meal over the Easter school holidays to children on benefits-related free school meals. The provision is open to children from Reception up to Year 11. Children in the borough are entitled to four sessions across the holidays. If you are not eligible for the HAF programme in your local area, you might be able to get help via the Household Support Fund. The latest round of funding closes on March 31, but a new round is running from April 2025 until March 2026. The current round of funding is worth £421million and has been split between councils in England who then decide how to allocate their share. Free money is usually transferred to your bank account or you are awarded vouchers to spend on energy bills or at supermarkets. You usually qualify for help if you are on a low income, benefits or classed as vulnerable. Speak to your local council to see what help is on offer. You can find what council area you fall under by visiting
