EnergyTown is an online city builder game aimed at helping UK schools teach pupils about the energy system It is funded by energy giant Equinor, and hosts yearly school competitions Materials associated with the game describe renewable energy sources as 'less reliable' Climate campaigners accuse it of targeting children with fossil fuel propaganda But Equinor says the game demonstrates how the green energy transition is about balance Environment campaigners have sounded the alarm over a free online game being marketed to UK schoolchildren - which they say is designed to make them feel more positively about fossil fuels. EnergyTown is funded by Norwegian energy giant Equinor. Aimed at children aged nine to 14, it comes with free educational resources to be used in lessons. It allows them to build and power a city that will survive until the year 2050 - while juggling factors like their 'green score', community happiness, and finances. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The game first launched in October 2023, and as of last year, Equinor said that it had reached more than 81,400 pupils across the UK. The game also holds a schools competition with a £1,000 cash prize, with this year's event set to close on Friday (June 6). But Greenpeace accuses it of being an attempt to 'brainwash schoolchildren'. The game suggests that oil can be part of a green energy mix, and in an online help page - titled 'how to improve your score in EnergyTown - on the game's Equinor-funded host site, it warns young players that renewable energy is 'less reliable'. The EnergyTown game is marketed towards UK schoolchildren, and funded by energy giant Equinor | (Image: National World/Adobe Stock/Getty/AFP via Getty) 'If you're relying on electricity from renewable energy resources like wind and solar power, you may have less electricity due to these energy resources being less reliable,' the page says. 'You should invest in a more reliable way to generate electricity, such as nuclear, oil, natural gas or hydrogen.' Equinor is also the majority owner of the controversial Rosebank oil and gas field development, 80 miles west of Shetland, which is thought to be the largest untapped oilfield in UK waters. In January this year, its consent was quashed by the Scottish Court of Session as unlawful, the BBC reports, meaning its owners must seek fresh approval from the UK Government before they begin extracting oil. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad But the project has been widely protested by campaigners, who say that new oil and gas projects are not compatible with the UK's climate commitments. 'We know exactly what Equinor is playing at,' Mel Evans, the head of Greenpeace UK's climate team, said. 'This so-called educational game is a thinly-disguised attempt to greenwash oil and gas by targeting children with fossil fuel propaganda. The bitter irony is that while fossil fuels may help build a 'sustainable' energy future in the game's fictional world, they're driving more devastating floods in some of these schoolkids' communities,' she continued. 'For that reason alone, this cynical PR ploy is doomed to fail. We know many young children know a lot about the climate crisis and what's driving it. If Equinor wants to win young hearts and minds, it should get serious about ditching fossil fuels and shifting to clean energy.' Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Equinor spokesperson Magnus Frantzen Eidsvold told us that the game was part of Equinor's ordinary activities and programs 'to stimulate the interest in science and technology (STEM) among young people, and not developed as part of any Rosebank campaign'. 'Equinor wants to contribute to ensuring the next generation is equipped with the skills needed to drive the energy industry and transition forward,' he continued. The game had been developed using data from the International Energy Agency (IEA), which verified the scenarios used in EnergyTown to 'ensure they are realistic and representative of the UK's current energy system'. The game was designed to reflect this complexity and showed that the energy transition was about balance, he added, requiring a mix of sources over time. 'The IEA forecast that fossil fuels may be required in 2050 especially in areas where renewables alone can't meet demand. EnergyTown is not about endorsing any one solution, rather it's about equipping the next generation with knowledge to make better decisions.' The game was developed by marketing agency We Are Futures, and was quality-asserted for UK schoolchildren by the Association for Science Education (ASE). She joked in the caption: "Raincoat ✅ hat ✅ wellies ✅ … must be June 🫢☔️" The star seems to be in good spirits despite her latest show, Celebrity Bear Hunt, was axed by Netflix after only one season. This means for the first time in 20 years Holly doesn't have an active show on television. The series saw Holly head to Costa Rica with survival expert Bear Grylls to put 12 celebs through their paces to test their survival skills. At the end of May, Bear had teased they had big plans for the show going forward while on an appearance on BBC Radio 2. He said: 'God willing, we are bringing Bear Hunt back, nd we're hoping to do it live so it's going to be a live version, which Netflix have never done before. "Raw, real, hunt them down!' However, just two weeks later it was revealed the streamer had pulled the plug on the service. The decision not to recommission the heavily backed series comes following a series of last ditch production meetings where various cost-cutting measures were discussed. Watch the horrific Bear Hunt accident that saw Steph McGovern rushed to medics A source told The Sun: 'Everyone involved with Bear Hunt is absolutely gutted - they loved the format, and it actually hit its targets from the streaming side. "But the overall cost of travel, insurance and, of course, securing big name talent proved too dear - it was completely untenable even after they looked at filming closer to home, and making more of a budget show. 'It is no slight on Holly or Bear either and execs are now trying to find another formula for them to showcase their talents. "Naturally it's a real blow to Holly as it's the latest show to have time called, but she's a professional and knows that sometimes this is how it goes." However, despite the end of the show, Holly's team aren't worried – with the host already working on new projects. 'She's got a number of other exciting projects in the pipeline." they said. "That's showbiz, after all.' 5 Holly and Bear tested the survival skills of celebrities in the reality show Credit: hollywilloughby/Instagram

Kris has previously admitted to having Botox, fillers, a boob job, and a face lift, which she had back in 2011 before Kim's wedding to Kanye West, 47. KATHERINE'S FACE LIFT 9 Katherine admitted she will have a face lift at some point Credit: Getty Both Grace and Katherine said they were tempted, with the latter saying: 'I WILL have a face lift.' Katheine, who hasn't had any cosmetic surgery on her face so far – although she has had filler, Botox, and a boob job – revealed that she is not only planning a face lift but is also considering additional treatments. Katherine, a mother of three, admitted she is seriously thinking about it after gifting her mum a face lift for her birthday. She added: 'Recovery is fine. 'She looked beautiful, like day one, she looked good. 'Been a swelling days like two to 12, and then she looked good again, and she was going out. 'Now she wasn't under scrutiny, being like papped, but she looked good, and she couldn't feel her face. 'She was medicated, which some would say is the best part. She was fine.' What is a face lift and how quick is the recovery? A FACE lift (technically called a rhytidectomy) is a cosmetic surgical procedure which tries to reduce visible signs of ageing in the face and neck. The procedure begins with either general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia with sedation to ensure you're comfortable and pain-free. The surgeon makes incisions based on the type of face lift. The surgeon lifts the skin and underlying tissues (SMAS layer – superficial musculoaponeurotic system). Fat may be sculpted, removed, or redistributed. The underlying muscle and connective tissues are tightened and repositioned to create a more youthful look. The skin is gently laid back over the newly repositioned contours and incisions are closed with sutures (medical stitch) or skin adhesives. Recovery time varies, but most people return to normal activities within two to four weeks. MUM'S FACE LIFT Katherine previously revealed that she paid '50 grand' for her mum to have a face lift. Speaking on Vogue Williams' Never Live It Down podcast, the actress explained that her mum Julie was 63 at the time and added that it was a 'good age to get a face lift.' Katherine defended getting work done and said: 'I think there are people who look at plastic surgery, cosmetic, you know, treatments, anything, and they feel sad. 9 Katherine said she bought her mum a face lift as a gift Credit: Getty 'They're like, 'there are more important things in life'. We know! ''She should love herself more'. I do! 'Those are the funniest comments when men will try to be allies, and they'll come in and they'll go, 'do you know, ladies, men don't actually want you to'. 'And I go, 'nothing that we do is for you at all. I don't care what you think'. ''I don't care if you live or die.'.' PREGNANT KATHERINE This comes as Katherine has revealed she's expecting baby number four. The 41-year-old and her partner Bobby Koostra will welcome another baby together, in an exciting addition to their family, just two months after Katherine's skin cancer diagnosis. 9 Katherine has three children with her husband Bobby, including son Fred, three, and daughter Fenna, two, as well as 15-year-old Violet from a previous relationship Credit: UKTV Katherine has two children with her husband Bobby, including son Fred, three, and daughter Fenna, two, as well as 15-year-old Violet from a previous relationship. And now, she'll be adding baby number four to the brood, as reported by Hello! The TV star had a mole removed privately last week, but after it was discovered to be cancerous, Katherine had to undergo another procedure. She then revealed she has melanoma on the latest episode of her podcast Telling Everybody Everything. It's the second time Katherine has been diagnosed with the disease, after having first had it at the age of 21 in 2004.
