Where is Brookside's Heather Huntington now? Actress Amanda Burton's glittering career revealed

Amanda Burton has become a staple of our television screens over the years, featuring in dozens of popular series Amanda Burton is one of many stars who have beloved soap Brookside to thank for launching her career. ‌ The series, shot in Liverpoool, is returning to our screens through a special crossover episode with Hollyoaks. It helped put the likes of Amanda on the map after she left her native Northern Ireland as a teen in hopes of pursuring an acting career. ‌ Since then, Burton has become a fixture on our television screens throughout the years, appearing in numerous series. She starred prominently in dramas such as Silent Witness and Waterloo Road, and has taken on roles in programmes including Midsomer Murders and more recently the crime series Marcella. ‌ Now 68, she has relished a diverse career and leads a peaceful existence by the seaside on England's south coast in Sussex. However, her life began with a humble start in a small town in Northern Ireland. Born in 1956 as the youngest of four daughters, Amanda was raised in Ballougry on the south-western edges of Derry City, where her family lived adjacent to Ballougry Primary School. Her father, Arthur Burton, worked as a headmaster at the school, which she attended throughout her youth. Her mother, of English heritage, was a descendant of Oscar Wilde. Being the youngest, she was constantly urged to embrace life's possibilities. "I had the most wonderful parents and the most idyllic childhood," she told the Express in 2016. "Both my mum and dad had an incredible zest for life and if that's your blueprint as you grow up, it's the way you tend to live your own life, too." At the tender age of 18, she relocated to England to pursue her studies at Manchester Polytechnic School of Film, TV and Theatre. Shortly after graduating, she joined the cast of Brookside, taking on the role of accountant Heather Huntington. ‌ Heather marked Amanda's debut in television, and she quickly became a fan favourite. The Northern Irish actress graced 143 episodes of the long-standing Channel 4 soap from 1982. Following the breakdown of her marriage, Heather was involved in unforgettable storylines including the death of her second husband Nicholas Black - prompting her to revert to her character's maiden name of Haversham. She bid farewell to the soap after a four-year run in 1986. ‌ After making guest appearances in shows like Inspector Morse and landing a leading role in Peak Practice over a decade, she assumed the main role of Professor Sam Ryan in the popular BBC drama Silent Witness. She remained on the show until 2004, but made a comeback in 2021. Much like her former Brookside co-star Anna Friel, Burton later featured on the detective series Marcella. The actress also played headteacher Karen Fisher in the school-based drama Waterloo Road for 28 episodes. In 1976, Burton tied the knot with theatre technician Jonathan Hartley, whom she met whilst studying at Manchester School of Theatre. They parted ways in 1982. In 1989, she wed professional photographer Sven Arnstein, with whom she had two daughters before their split in 2004. Burton now lives near Brighton - the filming location for her crime drama The Level.

A graduate of the Glasgow School of Art (Painting & Printmaking, 2021), Lizzie has quickly built a reputation for her distinctive drawing-based practice, which developed during lockdown. 'During COVID, drawing was a really accessible, easy way of creating work very instantly… it's something I feel less pressure about compared to painting, and I've really developed it in terms of a style and approach over the past few years,' she explains. Her practice combines drawing and printmaking, with prints that carry 'quite a lot of an etching quality' and translate beautifully into editions that can be enjoyed in everyday spaces. Lizzie is passionate about making her art available to all: 'A big part of my ethos as an artist is championing the idea that art should be accessible to everyone. Prints can be more affordable than one-off originals, and it means I can reach a wider audience who can have a piece of my artwork within their homes.' 'The domesticity of my still life pieces works really nicely in people's homes, while the life drawing prints capture a quickness and movement that I really like,' she says. Summer Market Lizzie's profile has grown steadily: she appeared onSky's Portrait Artist of the Year 2024 (Series 11), where she was tasked with drawing world-renowned musician and producer Baaba Maal. 'It was something really, really different from what I'd done before - not being in the studio where your work is kind of hidden, but instead creating live in front of an audience and cameras. It pushed me in such an exciting way,' she recalls. For her, the Wasps market is about more than sales - it's about connecting: 'What I'm really excited about with the market is having those interactions - getting live feedback, meeting people who are visiting other traders, and just reaching a wider audience. It's such a great opportunity to share my work in full display and see how people connect with it.' The Fragrance House French Girls Are Obsessed With Has Just Launched In The UK

Since becoming a beauty journalist, one thing has become abundantly clear: if it's French-woman approved, it absolutely sells. It makes sense. I could wax lyrical about the French and their ability to appear artfully (and expertly) polished and disheveled all at once. It's intentionally nonchalant - a flush of rouge here, a scrunch of salt spray tap, tap, tap of quilted Chanel pumps tottering down Montmartre. Ah! It's all so impossibly chic. And when it comes to fragrance, you can bet French girls do it best there too. The masses go wild for their scents - they are renowned for being stop-you-in-your-tracks level good. Take Zadig & Voltaire's wing-emblazoned bottle, which oozes musky cool, or Sisley's cult hair fragrance, which had me running to its Paris boutique to grab a bottle there and then. I almost missed the last Eurostar in the process. But you can bet I smelled gorgeous. So, imagine my delight during a recent PR meeting with Kenneth Green (who represent a wealth of beautiful fragrance brands) when I came across something totally brand new. Amidst the glitter and gleam of Christmas launches (more on that in the coming weeks), one golden bottle stood out. Its box, adorned with delicate line drawings of the Eiffel Tower, chic Parisian buildings and side streets lined with wicker chairs - the kind you pull up to for a glass of red and a baguette with a heap of salty, French butter- immediately caught my eye. 'Ooh, what is this one?' I asked, instantly drawn to it. 'Oh, this is very exciting,' the PR said. 'It's by a new Parisian haute perfume house called Solférino. They've recently launched in Selfridges.' This is a big deal. Firstly, because Selfridges hasn't taken on a new fragrance brand in years- their buying team is famously discerning where space in their precious marbled beauty hall is concerned. Secondly, Solférino is brand new, with just ten scents in its launch collection. For someone such as Selfridges to back them so confidently? It's rare - and this says a lot about the brand. The scent on the table that day was Un Samedi à Paris. It's a fragrance that captures the indulgence and luxury of a Saturday afternoon spent lolling around the capital. Think wandering the cobbled streets, people-watching over a glass (or two) of wine, strolling past the Eiffel Tower… It's exciting yet comforting, and seems to embody that mix of familiarity and thrill I always seem to feel when I'm in Paris. Created by perfumer Tanguy Guesnet, I'd describe this as a heady, enveloping scent. While it's not for the wallflower, it's far from brash either. Top notes of pepper and cardamom muddle into a heart of vetiver, cedarwood and sandalwood. It's a blend that sings, but doesn't shout. The base brings in tonka, vanilla bean and amber, creating a cosseting, calming finish that invites you to 'pause at a café with views of the Eiffel Tower.' While Un Samedi à Paris is the hero, the brand's wider offering is a refined nod to the classics. If you love the warm, musky notes found in classic Chanel fragrances, there's something for you here. If Tom Ford's Neroli speaks to you, then the orange blossom and clary sage notes of Reverie Sur Seine N1 Eau Reverie de Parfum, £140 may pique your interest. 'Solférino has spotted a gap,' the PR tells me. 'Think beautiful, wearable scents crafted by a niche perfume house. They're familiar, but unique, and people who have been using them have described them as their best kept beauty secret.' It's a very good secret. For now... 1. Solférino Un Samedi A Paris N5 Eau de Parfum Rachael Martin beauty director says: Created by perfumer Tanguy Guesnet, I'd describe this as a heady, enveloping scent.
