Online food seller pleads not guilty to posting offensive YouTube content on GISBH probe
Norizan Yahaya, 62, was charged with making and transmitting content deemed offensive, with intent to annoy others, via the YouTube account 'Zam Yahaya Official' between 2.00pm and 6.00pm on September 15, 2024.
The said content was accessed at the Cyber and Multimedia Crime Investigation Division, Commercial Crime Investigation Department, Bukit Aman Police Headquarters, Menara KPJ, Wangsa Maju at 8.00pm on September 16 of the same year.
He was charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to one year, or both upon conviction.
An additional fine of RM1,000 may be imposed for each day the offence persists after conviction.
Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Amir Hannif Ahijman proposed bail at RM10,000 with one surety.
However, the accused's lawyer, Asiah Abd Jalil, sought minimal bail on the grounds that her client is the sole breadwinner supporting an unemployed wife and does not pose a flight risk.
'My client sells health food online and earns approximately RM2,000 a month. He has five children, two of whom are at university,' she submitted.
Judge Norma Ismail granted bail at RM7,000 with one surety and fixed the next case mention for July 11. — Bernama

SEBERANG PERAI, Aug 22 — A small group of Umno supporters have started gathering outside the Magistrate's Court in Bukit Mertajam here from 7.30am this morning, to support party Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh. The group of over 100 stood outside the courthouse and held up banners with the words 'Solidariti buat Dr Akmal Saleh'. The group, some holding large Jalur Gemilang, later accompanied Dr Akmal on a short march towards the courthouse at about 8.20am. There was a heavy police presence in the surrounding areas of the courthouse, most of them arriving at around 6am anticipating the crowd. The gates to the courthouse were also closed and only staff members, lawyers, media and those with pending cases in the court were allowed to enter. Everyone entering the premises were individually scanned before being allowed in. Dr Akmal will be charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code at the magistrate's court today. Section 505(b) handles those causing fear or alarm to the public, and to induce them to commit an offence against public order. If convicted, a person can be punished with a prison term up to two years, a fine, or both. The Attorney General's Chambers previously said Dr Akmal will be charged over one of his Facebook posts, but did not specify which. Last week, Dr Akmal said he was called by the federal police to give his statement over the protest he led on the display of Jalur Gemilang in Kepala Batas, Penang. The AGC had previously warned Malaysians against vigilantism in cases involving the improper display of the Jalur Gemilang, amid furore over the Umno Youth protest.

Khaled: Military's integrity unfazed by arrests

The Defence Minister said these were isolated incidents which should not undermine the people's respect and trust for the armed forces. However, he advised military personnel to steer clear of any unlawful actions to avoid tarnishing the image of the armed forces. 'I hope no one abuses the rank or position entrusted to them. 'This case does not represent the armed forces which remains strong, respected and trusted by the people to defend the nation's sovereignty,' he said when launching the ministry's Fly the Jalur Gemilang Campaign in conjunction with National Month 2025 here yesterday. It was reported that three serving and two former armed forces officers were among 10 people arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to assist in investigations into a smuggling syndicate in southern Peninsular Malaysia. Khaled said the spirit of nationhood must be instilled in every citizen, especially among armed forces personnel and the defence community, , Bernama reported. He said the armed forces was not only a symbol of physical defence but also of sovereignty, integrity and the nation's independence. 'When we talk about independence, we immediately picture the warriors who defended the country. RM336,000 in false claims lands ex-military man a RM48,000 fine in Labuan
LABUAN, Jan 24 — The Labuan Special Corruption Court today fined a former Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) veteran RM48,000 after he pleaded guilty to 12 alternative charges of submitting false documents in claims exceeding RM336,000. Fairuzul Fazillah Musa, formerly attached to MAF Labuan, had initially been charged under Section 471, read with Section 468 of the Penal Code. He was accused of using forged documents as genuine in claims for local training and annual honorarium allowances between January 2015 and February 2016. The prosecution later offered 12 alternative charges under Section 471 read with Section 465 of the Penal Code, to which he pleaded guilty. Judge Jason Juga also imposed a fine of RM4,000 on each charge, in default four months' imprisonment, amounting to RM48,000, which was fully settled by the accused. Deputy public prosecutor Joe Randy Juster appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented. — Bernama
