Jeremy Renner says he was ‘pissed off' after being revived from near-fatal Tahoe snowplow accident

Jeremy Renner, the Oscar-nominated actor best known for his role as Hawkeye in Marvel's 'Avengers' franchise, has revealed that he was initially angry after being revived following his near-fatal snowplow accident.
In an interview on Kelly Ripa's podcast ' Let's Talk Off Camera,' Renner described his brief but powerful brush with death after he was crushed by a 14,000-pound snowcat outside his Lake Tahoe home while trying to save his nephew, Alex Fries, on New Year's Day 2023.
The Modesto actor suffered 38 broken bones, a collapsed lung and a pierced liver, spending over two weeks in the hospital and undergoing multiple surgeries.
'I didn't want to come back,' Renner told Ripa on the episode released Tuesday, May 20. 'I remember, and I was brought back and I was so pissed off.'
Renner explained that during the few minutes he was clinically dead, he experienced what he called the most exhilarating peace.'
'It's a great relief, is all I can say,' Renner said. 'It's a wonderful, wonderful relief to be removed from your body. It is the most exhilarating peace you could ever feel. It's the highest adrenaline rush, but the peace that comes with it — it's magnificent. It's so magical.'
The experience, he said, profoundly altered his understanding of life, death and what truly matters.
'Time is a human construct,' Renner said. 'Language, all these things — it's all knowing, all experiencing, all at the same time, all at once.'
The accident, which Renner attributes to a momentary lapse when he forgot to engage the parking brake, became a turning point in his life.
'It makes me — a man that didn't want to come back — really be able to be back here and live it on my terms as the captain of my own ship,' he said. 'And get on it or off it, I don't give a f—.'
'I can't stomach the things I gave credence to prior to the accident,' said Renner. 'I invest into love and my shared relationships that I experience love with. Cause that is the only thing that you take with you.'

Post Malone to open Lower Broadway restaurant and music venue

Post Malone is joining the league of celebrities who've claimed a slice of Lower Broadway pie. Why it matters: Post Malone's announcement Tuesday that he'll open a Nashville entertainment venue proves Music City is more than a pit stop for the popstar-turned-country-crossover artist. Zoom in: Hospitality company TC Restaurant Group says they'll partner with the Grammy Award-nominated musician to open a 26,000-square-foot restaurant, bar and music venue on at 305 Broadway. The honky-tonk-inspired venue will be named for the singer and feature three stages, six bars, a rooftop and a dining room. What he's saying: "We've created a space where everyone can come together and kick some ass. Nashville has really become a second home for me so I can't wait to invite y'all over to my house," Post said in a statement. The big picture: Property values on Lower Broadway are skyrocketing, with celebrity-owned honky-tonks driving the biggest increases.

'RHOBH' alum Tom Girardi sentenced to 7 years in federal prison for embezzling tens of millions of dollars

Tom Girardi, the famed personal injury attorney who was depicted in the Oscar-winning movie Erin Brockovich and is also the estranged husband of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Erika Jayne, has been sentenced to more than seven years behind bars for bilking his clients out of millions of dollars. The U.S. Attorney's Office of the Central District of California announced Tuesday that Girardi, who was disbarred in 2022, was sentenced to 87 months in federal prison for leading an embezzlement scheme that defrauded his clients of tens of millions of dollars, much of it meant for treatment for serious physical injuries. Girardi, 86, was also ordered to pay a $35,000 fine and more than $2 million in restitution, and to surrender to federal authorities by July 17. "This self-proclaimed 'champion of justice' was nothing more than a thief and a liar who conned his vulnerable clients out of the millions of dollars," U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli said in a statement. IRS Criminal Investigation Special Agent in Charge Tyler Hatcher added, "This sentencing brings a level of recompense for countless victims of Mr. Girardi's long-running scheme to enrich himself on the backs of clients who trusted him in some of their worst days." An attorney for Girardi didn't immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly's request for comment. Girardi was indicted on charges of stealing more than $18 million from clients in 2023 and found guilty on four counts of wire fraud last August. The 13-day trial found that the disgraced attorney operated his firm, Girardi Keese, "like a Ponzi-scheme," federal prosecutors said, diverting millions won from settlements toward unrelated expenditures between 2010 and 2020. Families of victims of tragedies like a 2018 Lion Air plane crash, for example, were awarded millions in cases fought by Girardi and his co-conspirators, but said they never saw the Girardi Keese CFO Christopher Kazuo Kamon pleaded guilty two two counts of wire fraud in October, was sentenced to 121 months in custody, and was ordered to pay nearly $9 million in restitution. Another Girardi Keese lawyer and Girardi's son-in-law, David R. Lira, is expected to stand trial next month. Jayne filed for divorce from Girardi in 2020 and the couple remain legally separated, though their divorce has not been finalized. Jayne was not implicated in last year's verdict against her ex, but federal prosecutors said during Girardi's trial that among the misappropriated funds, $25 million went to EJ Global, a company founded by Jayne to finance her entertainment career. Girardi and Jayne were jointly hit by a lawsuit alleging embezzlement in 2020, but she was dismissed from the case in 2022. Though the law firm which brought the suit, Edelson PC, claimed at the time of Jayne's dismissal that it planned to refile, a new suit has yet to materialize. Stream it: The best queer superheroes to inspire and entertain this Pride Month

All over the country, state legislators, school boards and federal agencies are endeavoring to diminish LGBTQ people — both in fiction and everyday life. It's times like this you might wish for a queer person with super-strength and lasers to swoop in and save the day. As we fight on the ground, here are some of the best superheroes with whom to celebrate Pride Month. Rather than have this list be dominated by characters from the two mega-titans of spandex, DC and Marvel, here's a general overview of what each universe has to offer in the way of LGBTQ representation: DC Extended Universe For DC, the animated 'Harley Quinn' series features one of comics' most iconic lesbian relationships, finally done right on television. 'Doom Patrol,' featuring gay hero Negative Man, remains a surrealist masterpiece. Finally, there's 'Peacemaker,' which showrunner James Gunn and star John Cena reimagined as a bisexual antihero. Watch it: All available on Max. Marvel Cinematic Universe The MCU has definitely been getting queerer in recent years. The underrated movie 'Eternals' showed an immortal hero living a quiet life with his husband and son. Cunning antihero Loki is canonically bisexual and genderfluid as well as the best time-travelling hero this side of 'Doctor Who' in the titular series. Then there's 'Agatha All Along,' which gave us the iconic line 'if you want a straight answer, ask a straight lady.' 'Miraculous' (2015) The French animated series 'Miraculous,' about Parisian teens who use magical jewels to fight crime as costumed heroes, is both a cult hit and a fantastic example of queer representation. From the rainbow-powered character Wishmaker to the unrequited crush of Vesperia on main character Ladybug, the show manages to competently contain a full gamut of real-world queer experiences in an affirming way. Watch it: Streaming on Disney+. 'Code Name: Dynastud' (2018) Not everything needs to be family-friendly and inspirational. In this raunchy comedy directed by Richard Griffin, a radical right-wing government has outlawed homosexuality. Luckily, a farm boy with some unprintable superpowers is off to save the day with jokes and an intolerance for intolerance. This film is pure schlock, but as a combination of revenge fantasy and satire of toxic machismo, it's definitely a fun time. Watch it: Steaming on Tubi. 'Surge of Power: The Stuff of Heroes' (2004) The entire ' Surge of Power ' franchise is a gift to the genre of camp. Real-life corporate attorney Vincent J. Roth plays fictional corporate attorney Gavin Lucas, the alter-ego of openly gay superhero Surge, who battles both crime and homophobia. This was a groundbreaking indie film in 2004, made after the rebirth of the genre but long before the media juggernaut of the MCU. It would be 13 years before 'Power Rangers' would put the first queer hero on the big screen, but Roth kept making 'Surge of Power' sequels and pop culture crossovers with other franchises.
