After Doha Masterclass, Qurratu'ain Ready To Bowl 'em Over In Asian Youth Meet

PETALING JAYA, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- National junior kegler Qurratu'Ain Izdihar Mohd Pozi is counting on home ground advantage to roll her way to a podium finish at the week-long 22nd Asian Youth Bowling Championships, which began at the Sunway Mega Lanes, Sunway Pyramid, here today.
Fresh from her five-gold feat at the Under-18 Asian Junior Bowling Championships in Doha, Qatar, recently, the 17-year-old also believes that the intensive training she and her teammates have undergone can propel them to achieve podium finishes.
"We have been training intensively, including having morning and evening sessions - just like before we went to Doha. So, I feel that I am ready for my event tomorrow.

ISKANDAR PUTERI, Aug 21 (Bernama) – Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) head coach Xisco Munoz praised his players for delivering an impressive performance after defeating Lion City Sailors (LCS) 3-1 in their opening Group B match of the ASEAN Club Championship at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium here tonight. He said the Southern Tigers managed to control the match, especially in the first half, noting that the players capitalised on their chances to secure all three points in front of their home supporters. 'The players gave an amazing performance in the first 45 minutes to control the game. We scored a goal and created important chances. bootstrap slideshow 'All I can say today is congratulations to the players for delivering a very good performance with what they had,' he said during a post-match press conference. He added that the victory was the result of teamwork and commitment on the pitch, while reminding the players to maintain the same standard in the coming matches. JDT's victory was secured through two goals, including a penalty, from Joao Vitor Brandao Figueredo and one from Arif Aiman Mohd Hanapi. The opening victory puts the 11-time consecutive Super League champions at the top of Group B with three points, level with Cambodia's Svay Rieng who edged Myanmar's Shan United 1-0 in another fixture. JDT will face Bangkok United in their second group match at the same venue on Sept 25. Meanwhile, LCS head coach Aleksandar Rankovic urged his players to bounce back in their next match.

The Brazilian hitman scored two quick goals in the first 16 minutes of the game - slotting home a penalty in the 11th minute before punishing the LCS defence a second time five minutes later with a powerful drive. JDT, however, had to wait until added time in the second half to go 3-0 up through 23-year-old striker Arif Aiman Mohd Hanapi.

SHAH ALAM, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Shah Alam lived up to expectations when they clinched the Charity Shield in the Datuk Mokhtar Dahari Cup football tournament for the Under-18 category after trouncing SMK Datuk Harun 5-1 at the Section 19 synthetic pitch here today. SMK Shah Alam, coached by Osmera Omaro, shot into the lead after just four minutes through winger Vincenzo Oliveo Donny before doubling their lead six minutes later through Muhammad Hadif Mohammad Hazzuar. Vincenzo was back on target in the 16th minute before Muhammad Danish Harith Muhammad Zakri made it 4-0 for SMK Shah Alam three minutes later.
