Hong Kong, Singaporean police team up to smash cross-border scam syndicate
Over in Hong Kong, a police raid on seven offices led to the arrest of four local men, aged 23 to 48, with officers also seizing various telecommunications equipment, including routers, mobile phones, computers and modem pool devices.
Their Singaporean counterparts, meanwhile, arrested four Malaysian nationals suspected of being core members of the syndicate and seized 75 modem-pool devices.
Senior Superintendent Hung Hiu-wai of Hong Kong police's financial intelligence and investigation bureau said: 'A common trend is that the scam syndicates will set up bases in different jurisdictions to make it more difficult for local police to trace them.
'One base could be responsible for buying SIM cards, while another will be responsible for making calls, and a third base could be responsible for recruiting 'money mules'.'
A money mule refers to someone who lends or sells their bank accounts to scammers to help transfer or process criminal proceeds from their activities.

Indonesian tourist arrested at Hong Kong's The Peak after tumbler hits woman
An Indonesian tourist who was sightseeing at The Peak in Hong Kong has been arrested after a tumbler fell out of his backpack and hit another visitor walking below. Police said they received a report at 12.16pm on Wednesday that a mainland Chinese woman had been hit by an unknown object at The Peak Tower and reported injuries to her head. 'A man standing on the floor above was sightseeing. He had put his backpack on a fence, but his tumbler fell out from a side pocket, falling to the floor below and hitting the woman,' the spokesman said. Officers arrested the man, who was a tourist from Indonesia, on suspicion of allowing an object to fall from a height. The injured woman, a tourist in her 40s, was sent to Queen Mary Hospital in Pok Fu Lam. The tumbler was 17cm (6.7 inches) high and 8cm wide.

Boy, 12, sent to hospital after alleged cutter attack by pupil at Hong Kong school
A 12-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after a fellow pupil allegedly slashed him with a cutter at their Hong Kong primary school. Police said they received a report at around 10.47am on Wednesday that a girl attending Tang Shiu Kin Primary School in Tuen Mun had been involved in an altercation with another pupil. The boy sustained an injury to his right arm after the girl allegedly attacked him with the cutter. He was transported to Tuen Mun Hospital. It remains unclear whether the two pupils involved are classmates. Police said investigations into the incident were under way. The Post has reached out to the school for comment.

2 arrested in Hong Kong over alleged hit-and-run that kills cyclist, 71
Hong Kong police have arrested two people connected to a suspected hit-and-run accident that killed a 71-year-old man on a bicycle on Tuesday, with the driver still at large, the Post has learned. A source familiar with the matter told the Post that a 57-year-old woman, suspected to be the owner of the car that killed the victim, and her 67-year-old husband, were arrested on Wednesday morning. 'Police suspect preliminarily that the driver was the arrested person's grandson,' a source familiar with the case said. The driver allegedly responsible for the fatal crash remained at large as of Wednesday morning. Police issued a statement in the early hours of Wednesday that a 71-year-old cyclist was killed after a private car had rammed into him while approaching Wing Ning Tsuen in Yuen Long. A force spokesman said a private car had been travelling along Long Ping Road towards Tin Shui Wai. The driver was suspected to have hit the 71-year-old man before driving away from the scene.
