'Best place to live' hosts first Pride event
A town named the UK's "Best Place to Live" has hosted its first ever Pride event.
Hundreds gathered at Audley End House and Gardens in Saffron Walden to celebrate the inaugural Walden Pride on Saturday.
Aj Singh, who co-founded the Essex event, said: "It is making a real difference, particularly for young people to be represented and to know their town cares about them."
The town was named the best place to live in the UK by The Sunday Times in March, for its schools, transport, access to green spaces - and the quality of the High Street.
The Pride event featured music by local artists, including artists Sing Out Cambridge and Sakara Dee.
People joined the march at 15:30 BST starting at The Common before finishing in time for the Pride Picnic Party.
"It is so incredible to have an event like this close by as we have to travel usually," Aj Singh added.
"We are both members of the community ourselves, this is not something that is a hobby for us, this is our lives."
Stalls by Uttlesford UNISON, The Plant Pantry and Waterbaby Flowers, featured at the free event.
Riley Millar, who also co-founded Walden Pride, said: "All that we have had is so much support and enthusiasm.
"I wish that I had something like this when I was younger, and to see it happening little me would be so excited, it is needed."
Money raised from the day will be used to fund future events arranged by Walden Pride.
The idea for the festival was suggested by Audley End House site manager Kirstie Horne, who said she was "delighted" the site hosted the event.

Final day of Des Moines' PrideFest kicks off
DES MOINES, Iowa — The final day of the PrideFest kicked off in the East Village on Sunday morning. The event is organized by Capital City Pride, a nonprofit whose mission is to bring together the LGBTQ+ community and host around 100 events and programs annually to inspire and educate. PrideFest is a three-day festival and is the nonprofit's largest event every year. It started 46 years ago when a group of people marched from the Iowa State Capitol to the Blazing Saddle in the East Village to demand rights for LGBTQ Iowans. Laurel Feakes is the Director of Public Relations for Capital City Pride. She said last year's PrideFest brought between 130,000 and 150,000 people to downtown Des Moines. The three-day event kicked off on Friday with vendors and acts performing on the Community Stage. Then on Saturday, the packed schedule featured events for families and kids, teens, pets, and more. The Main Stage also headlined acts like Ally and AJ. Sunday is the final day for the event. Early risers started their morning with yoga across the street from the Embassy Suits. PrideFest officially kicked off at 10 a.m. with a Pride Worship Service on the Main Stage. Paramount/Skydance's Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, meanwhile, has topped $450M worldwide with $450.4M through today. The offshore hold was also -47%, with another $40.6M contributing to the running $301.2M international box office. Elsewhere, it is the highest grossing film of the year in France, Italy, Spain, Brazil and Mexico, among others. Here are the Top 5 to date: Mexico ($56.8M), UK ($42.2M), France ($30.4M), Brazil ($28.2M) and Germany ($23.7M). In Mission: Impossible news, the Tom Cruise-starrer's 66 markets this weekend were led by China where it was No. 1 for the second frame in a row. The total there is now $47.5M with Maoyan predicting a $62M finish. It's easily the biggest Hollywood movie of the year so far there. The current Top 5 is rounded out by the UK ($27.8M), Japan ($23.4M), Korea ($20.5M) and France ($17.7M). In Imax, M:I 8 has grossed $69.1M globally which reps a franchise-best 15.3% of the overall global total for the Filmed For Imax movie. The international cume in the format is $38M. Also in holdover play, Sony's Karate Kid: Legends added $10M in 57 overseas markets for a $38.6M offshore cume and $74M global to date. Spain, France and Japan open in August. And, New Line/Warner Bros' Final Destination Bloodlines also saw a 47% drop, adding another $8.1M from 75 markets for an offshore cume of $133.6M and a global take of $257.2M. There was sporting success for England's cricketers when they visited Bristol on Sunday however. The group, from Wellsway, Broadlands and Sir Bernard Lovell Schools, built the kart themselves and will be going up against other schools from across the country on Saturday.
