Bengaluru Airport bags IndiGo's Rs 1,100 cr MRO facility, to be built on 31 acres

Airline carrier IndiGo on Friday announced plans to establish an additional maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility at Bengaluru 's Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). The airline signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), under which BIAL will allocate approximately 31 acres for the project.The facility will be built with an investment of over Rs 1,100 crore, inclusive of infrastructure, plant and machinery, the Karnataka government said in a statement. With this project BIAL will support a projected 1,300 aircrafts by FY31 and potentially scale it to 2,100 aircrafts by FY 37-38, it added. The new MRO facility at KIA will be an addition to its current infrastructure already serving Airbus, Boeing and defence aircrafts."Indigo's second MRO facility is expected to generate over 750 direct high-skill jobs in engineering, logistics, warehousing, and support services," Karnataka's Commissioner for Industrial Development Gunjan Krishna said.Indigo said the new facility will be equipped to handle both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft, boosting the airline's operational presence in southern India.The planned facility will consist of four hangars to accommodate four wide-body aircraft or eight narrow-body aircraft, and one paint hangar to accommodate one wide-body aircraft.'With Indigo and Air India both now operating MRO facilities in Karnataka, alongside TASL's upcoming MRO plant and HAL 's existing MRO operations in the state, Karnataka truly earns its title as the MRO Capital of Asia ,' the Industries department said in a statement.As per government sources the Kalaburagi airport was also offered to IndiGo but the airline chose Bengaluru as its base.'The presence of IndiGo's MRO will also accelerate the entry of OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers, resulting in a multiplier effect in terms of jobs, industrial growth, and vendor development,' Commissioner Krishna added. She added that the project underscores Karnataka's commitment to fostering world-class aviation infrastructure and catalyzing high-skill job creation.Just a few days ago Indigo said it has roped in Ton Dortmans with over 40 years of experience to build IndiGo's overall MRO strategy including for Airbus- A350 aircraft. Last year the carrier placed an order for 30 A350-900 aircraft.With more than 400 aircraft in its fleet and over 900 aircrafts still on order, a dedicated MRO facility will give a significant advantage in terms of aircraft availability, greater cost efficiencies and quicker turnaround benefiting the airline and its customers, Indigo said in a statement."Developing broad IndiGo MRO capabilities marks a significant and very strategic step for IndiGo. Panaji Residency: Rs 22L curtains offered for ‘posh' Delta guests
Panaji: Delta Corp Ltd, which had a corporate tie-up with the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) for Panaji Residency until March 31, approached the corporation to renew the contract. Delta Corp assured the GTDC of consistent occupancy with an approximate payout of Rs 3 crore per year. Delta Corp said that it could utilise a minimum of 6,000 room nights per year at Panaji Residency, translating to Rs 30 lakh of turnover per month. The GTDC's board agreed to renew the corporate tie-up. The GTDC had executed a MoU with Delta Corp Ltd for the period from April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2025. Given that Delta Corp will bring in 'high profile guests', an inspection of the GTDC-owned property found that the curtains need replacement. The GTDC offered to replace the curtains in 45 rooms at the Panaji Residency at a cost of Rs 22 lakh. Delta Corp operates four offshore casinos in the Mandovi under the Deltin brand. The GTDC's Panaji Residency is a stone's throw from the Captain of Ports jetty, where the casinos have offices. The GTDC, which has Ganesh Gaonkar as the chairman, asked the Goa Handicrafts Rural & Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (GHRSSIDC) to provide rates from empanelled vendors to replace the old curtains and curtain tracks with new ones in 45 rooms. The board agreed to place the order with the GHRSSIDC, a govt-backed body. Pravin Arlekar is the GHRSSIDC chairman. Panaji Residency recently underwent an upgrade, with rooms being painted and fresh wallpaper being fixed.

High prices of Dussehri, Langra likely to come down by June 15
Jaipur: The beloved Dussehri and Langra varieties of mangoes are selling at higher prices this season due to low yield this year. However, wholesale dealers at Muhana Mandi say these varieties are expected to see a dip in prices from June 15 onwards. According to wholesale fruit traders at Muhana Mandi, most of the varieties of mangoes have now arrived in the market, including Safeda, Langra, Dussehri, Kesar, Fazali, Totapuri, and Alphonso. "We are getting Dussehri from Rampur, Hathras, Lucknow, and Meerut. Compared to 2024, the supply is less. When we enquired, we were told that yield of Dussehri and Langra varieties has been less this year," said Aabid Rehman, a wholesale dealer at Muhana Mandi. He added that several factors, including abrupt weather conditions during May and ageing trees, are behind the low yield of mangoes this year. "Dussehri is available at Rs 60 to Rs 80 per kg in the wholesale market, but in the retail market it is being sold at Rs 120 to Rs 150 per kg. Last year, prices of Dushehri in May were between Rs 80 to Rs 120 per kg in retail," said Mahesh Hardasani, a wholesale dealer of fruits.
