SEC Power Rankings: New No. 1 team atop conference to conclude 2025 season
For example, during the regional round alone, the SEC was certainly among the biggest talking points after sending 13 teams to the NCAA Tournament, as nine of them would not make it past that round.
As a result, the SEC then sent only four teams to the super regionals, two of which faced each other. Following the ensuing series' as well, two SEC teams then advanced to Omaha for the Men's College World Series, each of which made a deep run.
So, following an action packed postseason for the conference, let's take a look at the final SEC baseball power rankings of the 2025 season to see which team sits atop the group to finish the year.
16. Missouri Tigers
Missouri was one-of-three SEC teams to not make the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers ended the year with a 16-39 overall record (3-27 in SEC).
15. South Carolina Gamecocks
South Carolina was the second SEC team to not make the NCAA Tournament this season. The Gamecocks ended the year with a record of 28-29 overall (6-24 in SEC).
14. Texas A&M Aggies
Texas A&M was final of the three SEC teams to not make the NCAA Tournament this season. The Aggies concluded the season at 30-26 overall (11-19 in SEC).
13. Kentucky Wildcats
Playing in the Clemson Regional, Kentucky reached the championship game with victories over USC Upstate and Clemson, but saw their season come to an end with a loss against West Virginia. The Wildcats' second one-run defeat at the hands of the Mountaineers during the Clemson Regional, Kentucky ended the season at 31-26 overall (13-17 in SEC).
12. Mississippi State Bulldogs
Playing in the Tallahassee Regional, Mississippi State won two games over Northeastern, but suffered a pair of losses to host Florida State that ended their season in the championship game. Mississippi State's record to end the season is 36-23 overall (15-15 in SEC).
11. Alabama Crimson Tide
Alabama had a disappointing showing in the Hattiesburg Regional, dropping a pair of close games at the hands of Miami and Southern Miss. The Crimson Tide end the season on a three-game losing streak, as well as with a 41-18 overall record (16-14 in SEC).
10. Florida Gators
Playing in the Conway Regional, Florida defeated Fairfield, but dropped both games against East Carolina to fall just short of the championship game. The Gators ended the season with an overall record of 39-22 (15-15 in SEC).
9. Oklahoma Sooners
Oklahoma had an impressive showing in the Chapel Hill Regional that included two victories over Nebraska, as well as a record of 2-1 against host North Carolina which featured a defeat in the decisive winner-take-all championship game. The Sooners ended the season with a 38-22 overall record (14-16 in SEC).
8. Georgia Bulldogs
Hosting the Athens Regional, Georgia opened postseason play with a dominant win over Binghamton, but were later defeated by both Duke and Oklahoma State in close games to fall short of the championship game. A disappointing end to the season for Georgia, the Bulldogs end the year at 43-17 overall (18-12 in SEC).
7. Texas Longhorns
Hosting the Austin Regional, the SEC regular season champions reached the championship game following victories over Houston Christian and Kansas State, but were upset for the second time by UTSA in the regional to end their season. Texas finishes their first season in the conference at 44-14 overall (22-8 in SEC).
6. Ole Miss Rebels
After opening the Oxford Regional with a loss to Murray State, Ole Miss then rattled off three consecutive victories over Western Kentucky, Georgia Tech, and the Racers to set up a decisive winner-take-all game. However, Ole Miss would drop that game to Murray State, 12-11, ending the season at 43-21 overall (16-14 in SEC).
5. Vanderbilt Commodores
The No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, Vanderbilt hosted the Nashville Regional where they opened play with a win over Wright State, but went on to suffer a pair of one-run losses to Louisville and the Raiders. After winning the SEC Tournament, Vanderbilt ends the season with a 43-18 overall record (19-11 in SEC).
4. Auburn Tigers
After sweeping the Auburn Regional with wins over Central Connecticut State, Stetson, and NC State, the Tigers were the first-of-four SEC teams to advance to super regionals in which Auburn was also the host, but dropped both games against Coastal Carolina to fall just short of Omaha. The Tigers ended the season at 41-20 overall (17-13 in SEC).
3. Tennessee Volunteers
Despite a loss to Wake Forest, Tennessee won the Knoxville Regional with victories over Miami (OH), Cincinnati, and the Demon Deacons, but then followed that up with a series sweep at Arkansas in the Fayetteville Super Regional to fall short of Omaha. The Volunteers end their 2025 season at 46-19 overall (16-14 in SEC).
2. Arkansas Razorbacks
Arkansas swept through the regional and super regional rounds of the NCAA Tournament with victories over North Dakota State, Creighton, and Tennessee to make it to Omaha, and then picked up wins over Murray State and UCLA in the College World Series. The Razorbacks however fell twice to LSU in Omaha, one of which was in the national semifinals, and as a result, end the season at 50-15 overall (20-10 in SEC).
1. LSU Tigers
The 2025 national champions, LSU's lone blemish on their way to lifting the trophy in Omaha was a regional defeat to Little Rock, with the Tigers defeating each of Little Rock, Dallas Baptist, West Virginia, Arkansas, UCLA, and Coastal Carolina along the way. LSU's season ends with an overall record of 53-15 (19-11 in SEC).

SMU's Rhett Lashlee slams ESPN over ‘rigged' college football rankings
Rhett Lashlee isn't hiding what he thinks is ESPN favoritism to the Big Ten and SEC. The SMU coach is calling it out again. Back in June, ESPN released its Football Power Index rankings. It is aimed to offer 'measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance going forward for the rest of the season.' ACC teams Miami and Clemson opened at No. 9 and No. 11, respectively. Getty Images On Friday, as the season nears, ESPN updated those rankings. Although nothing has changed, ACC schools Miami and Clemson both fell to No. 17 and No. 16, respectively. SMU actually moved up a spot, to No. 19. So, what changed, you may ask? 'Because the whole thing is rigged,' the SMU coach wrote on X. Last season, Lashlee had similar remarks, questioning the idea that the ACC and Big 12 couldn't compete with the Big Ten and SEC. He called the SEC 'top-heavy.' 'The SEC has had the same six schools win the championship since 1964. Same six. Not a single one has been different since 1964. That's top-heavy to me. That's not depth.' Hopefully, SMU can build off its strong season. That would likely result in more of the head coach's shots at ESPN and the big two conferences. Added spice is always good for the sport.

Preseason SEC football power rankings entering 2025 season
The 2025 SEC football season has now officially arrived. Yes, after a lengthy offseason full of action off the field, the 2025 season has arrived for the SEC. Similar to seasons past as well, the SEC is once again expected to be among the best conferences in all of college football. Looking back at last season, the SEC placed three teams into the College Football Playoff, while a few others ended up falling just short of making the field. However, when projecting the 2025 campaign, many of those same teams could also be in contention to make the College Football Playoff, some of which are likely expected to entering the year. Something that will be updated weekly going forward, let's take a look at the preseason SEC football power rankings entering the 2025 season. 16. Mississippi State Bulldogs Mississippi State had one of the worst seasons in program history a year ago, ending year one of the Jeff Lebby era with a 2-10 overall record (0-8 in SEC) in what was the Bulldogs first double-digit loss season since 2003. There is potential for a bounce back season in Starkville however after Mississippi State added a deep transfer portal class, combining that group with a returning starter at quarterback in Blake Shapen. The Bulldogs will open the season Saturday, Aug. 30, with an in-state road showdown at Southern Miss. 15. Kentucky Wildcats Kentucky simply had a forgetful season a year ago, finishing among the bottom of the conference at 4-8 overall (1-7 in SEC) in likely their worst campaign since 2013. Mark Stoops and the Wildcats will also be relying on some newer faces this fall in order for a bounce back season, most notably Incarnate Word transfer quarterback Zach Calzada. The Wildcats will open the season Saturday, Aug. 30, at home against Toledo. 14. Arkansas Razorbacks The Razorbacks bounced back a bit during year five of the Sam Pittman era last season, finishing with a 7-6 overall record (3-5 in SEC). Set to return for Arkansas this season however is a talented team led by returning quarterback Taylen Green, one that will be looking to take the next step into a SEC contender. Arkansas will open the season Saturday, Aug. 30, at home against Alabama A&M. 13. Vanderbilt Commodores Vanderbilt and head coach Clark Lea finished last season at 7-6 overall (3-5 in SEC), which was the Commodores' first winning season since 2013. The Commodores should not go anywhere this fall either, as prominent players in Diego Pavia and Eli Stowers both return, leaving reason to believe Vanderbilt can potentially build off their success from a year ago. Set to open the season Saturday, Aug. 30, Vanderbilt will host Charleston Southern in Week 1. 12. Missouri Tigers Missouri and head coach Eliah Drinkwitz are coming off their second consecutive double-digit win season at 10-3 overall (5-3 in SEC). The Tigers however are a different looking team this fall after multiple prominent departures, but have still added key names such as Penn State transfer quarterback Beau Pribula. Drinkwitz and Missouri will be the SEC's first team to play during Week 1, doing so Thursday, Aug. 28, at home against Central Arkansas. 11. Auburn Tigers The Auburn Tigers are coming off a 5-7 overall season (2-6 in SEC), and have not won more than six games in a year since 2019. Led by head coach Hugh Freeze, Auburn will return one of the SEC's top wide receivers in Cam Coleman, while also having brought in a transfer class that features former Oklahoma quarterback Jackson Arnold. Auburn's season opener will take place Friday, Aug. 29, on the road at Baylor. 10. Oklahoma Sooners After winning double-digit games in 2023, Oklahoma and head coach Brent Venables took a step back in year one as a member of the SEC, finishing with a 6-7 overall record (2-6 in SEC). Since, the Sooners have however seen a significant amount of roster movement, one that is headlined by a new starter at quarterback in former Washington State transfer John Mateer. Oklahoma will open the season Saturday, Aug. 30, at home against Illinois State. 9. Florida Gators The Florida Gators likely enjoyed the greatest season of the Billy Napier era so far a year ago, which featured an 8-5 overall record (4-4 in SEC). Led by a returning quarterback in DJ Lagway, there is certainly potential for the Gators to take yet another step forward in 2025 as well to even improve on that win total of eight. Florida will open the 2025 season at home Saturday, Aug. 30, against Long Island University. 8. Tennessee Volunteers Head coach Josh Heupel and Tennessee are coming off a season in which the Volunteers make the College Football Playoff at 10-3 overall (6-2 in SEC). The Volunteers however are tasked with replacing some notable players, which means that Tennessee will be counting on multiple new faces to make an impact such as Appalachian State transfer quarterback Joey Aguilar. Tennessee will play a neutral-site game to open the 2025 season, facing Syracuse in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday, Aug. 30. 7. Ole Miss Rebels Lane Kiffin led Ole Miss to its' second consecutive double-digit win season a year ago, finishing at 10-3 overall (5-3 in SEC). The Rebels should be back in College Football Playoff contention this season led by the likes of Suntarine Perkins and Austin Simmons, even despite some notable departures also. Ole Miss is set to open the season Saturday, Aug. 30, at home against Georgia State. 6. Texas A&M Aggies Year one of the Mike Elko era was a solid one for the Texas A&M Aggies, finishing with an 8-5 overall record (5-3 in SEC) for their highest win total since 2021. There is certainly potential for Texas A&M to repeat that success during the 2025 season as well, with a big reason as to why being a returning starter at quarterback in Marcel Reed. Texas A&M will open the season Saturday, Aug. 30, at home against UTSA. 5. South Carolina Gamecocks South Carolina took a step forward a year ago under head coach Shane Beamer, finishing with a 9-4 overall record (5-3 in SEC) in what was their first nine-win season since 2017. There is reason to believe the Gamecocks could be here to stay as a SEC contender in 2025 as well, with a big reason why being returning quarterback LaNorris Sellers. The Gamecocks will open the season Sunday, Aug. 31, against Virginia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia. 4. LSU Tigers Led by head coach Brian Kelly, LSU is coming off a 9-4 overall season (5-3 in SEC), the Tigers first with less than double-digit wins since 2021. The Tigers will be back as a SEC contender yet again this fall, featuring a talented roster that is headlined by quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. LSU is set to open the season Saturday, Aug. 30, in a high-profile Top 10 road trip at Clemson, one of the SEC's biggest Week 1 matchups. 3. Alabama Crimson Tide Alabama enters year two of the Kalen DeBoer era coming off a down 2024 campaign in which the Crimson Tide had a 9-4 overall record (5-3 in SEC), the program's first non double-digit win season since 2007. The Crimson Tide will see a new quarterback this fall in Ty Simpson, who leads a team that also returns Ryan Williams and Kadyn Proctor, among others. On Saturday, Aug. 30, Alabama will travel to Florida State for one of the SEC's biggest Week 1 matchups. 2. Georgia Bulldogs Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs made the College Football Playoff a year ago at 11-3 overall (6-2 in SEC), the program's fourth consecutive double-digit win season. The Bulldogs will be back among the SEC's elite in 2025, led by a roster that returns a talented defense led by CJ Allen and KJ Bolden, among others. Georgia will play Marshall at home during Week 1 on Saturday, Aug. 30. 1. Texas Longhorns Steve Sarkisian and Texas had a memorable first season as part of the SEC, making the College Football Playoff at 13-3 overall (7-1 in SEC), the program's highest win total since 2009. The Longhorns are a preseason pick to make it back to the SEC Championship Game once again this fall, led by a roster featuring Arch Manning and Anthony Hill Jr., among others. Texas will open the season in college football's biggest Week 1 game, a top five road matchup at defending national Ohio State on Saturday, Aug. 30. SEC ESPN Football Power Index rankings for 2025
The 2025 college football season is upon us. Week zero is six days away, and the Oklahoma Sooners play football in less than two weeks. The Oklahoma Sooners are trending toward a bounce-back season in 2025 on the arm and legs of John Mateer and an improved offensive line. Experts like Josh Pate believe the Sooners are a top 10 team to open the season. The Sooners are among several SEC teams with a chance to contend in the conference and secure a playoff spot. But it's a deep league, and the Sooners have a tough road ahead. In the latest update to the ESPN Football Power Index, the Oklahoma Sooners are one of 12 SEC teams in the top 25. Eight of those SEC teams appear on Oklahoma's schedule this season. If you add Michigan, which came in at No. 15, the Sooners have a daunting nine teams inside the top 25 of the ESPN FPI on their schedule. Here's how the SEC stacks up in the latest Football Power Index compared to where they ranked in the spring. 16. Mississippi State Bulldogs Overall: 54 Post-Spring Ranking: 52 Projected Win-Loss: 4.4-7.6 Jeff Lebby has a big task in front of him after the Bulldogs finished 2-10 in 2025. At times, Mississippi State was playing competitive football, but there simply wasn't enough talent last year to keep them in games. Quarterback Blake Shapen is back to lead the way and if the offense can take a step, Mississippi State could be contending for bowl eligibility. 15. Vanderbilt Commodores Overall: 49 Post-Spring Ranking: 56 Projected Win-Loss: 5.1-6.9 Diego Pavia and Vanderbilt stole the show in 2024 when they upset the Alabama Crimson Tide. They were the talk of the SEC in a season that welcomed Texas and Oklahoma to the conference. What do Pavia and head coach Clark Lea have in store for an encore? 14. Kentucky Wildcats Overall: 43 Post-Spring Ranking: 34 Projected Win-Loss: 5.2-6.8 Kentucky brought in Zach Calzada to give the offense a little life after the Wildcats finished 119th in the nation in points per game. The Wildcats failed to score 20 points in seven of their 12 games last year and scored more than 30 just three times. 13. Arkansas Razorbacks Overall: 27 Post-Spring Ranking: 22 Projected Win-Loss: 5.9-6.1 After a strong season in 2024, Taylen Green may be one of the more underrated quarterbacks in the conference heading into the season. If he can improve on his breakout season a year ago, which included a win over Tennessee, the Razorbacks could be a lot of fun to watch in 2025. 12. Missouri Tigers Overall: 23 Post-Spring Ranking: 23 Projected Win-Loss: 7.3-4.8 Missouri is still trying to figure out its quarterback situation. Beau Pribula was expected to be the starter, but Sam Horn has pushed the former Penn State backup, and it's a full-blown quarterback competition. The schedule is manageable as the Tigers play Central Arkansas, Kansas, and Louisiana before hosting South Carolina on Sept. 20. 11. Auburn Tigers Overall: 21 Post-Spring Ranking: 14 Projected Win-Loss: 6.9-5.1 The Auburn Tigers had the biggest drop of any SEC team from the post-spring Football Power Index to the preseason rankings. Auburn has a big nonconference matchup with Baylor in Waco that could be an indicator of what their season could be. 10. Oklahoma Sooners Overall: 20 Post-Spring Ranking: 16 Projected Win-Loss: 6.3-5.7 The computer's expectations aren't very high on the Oklahoma Sooners, and a lot of that is due to the limited recent success. Brent Venables and his staff have recruited well, with more than 70% of the roster comprising of blue-chip players. The defense is going to be really good and quarterback John Mateer and the offense will be significantly better in 2025. 9. Florida Gators Overall: 13 Post-Spring Ranking: 18 Projected Win-Loss: 7.1-4.9 Quarterback D.J. Lagway has been battling some lingering injuries this offseason but the expectation is that he'll be good to go for 2025. However, if he has a hard time staying on the field, the Gators will struggle to win games against one of the toughest schedules in the nation. 8. LSU Tigers Overall: 12 Post-Spring Ranking: 12 Projected Win-Loss: 7.7-4.3 The computers are lower on the LSU Tigers than a lot of people and it's largely because the defense hasn't been consistent enough to project them much higher. Garrett Nussmeier and the LSU offense are good to go. They'll be explosive and put up big numbers this year. But if the defense can't find consistent stops in big games, it may put a damper on LSU's championship aspirations. 7. South Carolina Gamecocks Overall: 11 Post-Spring Ranking: 15 Projected Win-Loss: 7.9-4.2 If the South Carolina Gamecocks are going to improve upon their 9-3 season from 2024, they'll need a big year from quarterback LaNorris Sellers, and the defense will have to replace several impact players. 6. Ole Miss Rebels Overall: 10 Post-Spring Ranking: 13 Projected Win-Loss: 8.5-3.6 There are high expectations for the Ole Miss Rebels despite the departure of Jaxson Dart, Tre Harris, Chris Paul Jr. Walter Nolen, and Princely Unmanmielen. The Rebels had one of the best defenses in the country last year under Pete Golding. If Austin Simmons is ready to lead the way, Ole Miss will have a chance to exceed their projected win total. 5. Texas A&M Aggies Overall: 9 Post-Spring Ranking: 8 Projected Win-Loss: 7.9-4.2 Mike Elko's fingerprints are all over this team. They'll run the ball well and play good defense. Marcel Reed has a high ceiling and proved capable of leading the Aggies last season. If he takes a step in his development, he could be the most exciting quarterback in college football this season. 4. Tennessee Volunteers Overall: 8 Post-Spring Ranking: 10 Projected Win-Loss: 9.0-3.1 Tennessee might be the most overrated team in the Football Power Index. The Volunteers lost a ton of talent from last year's run-heavy squad and projected starting quarterback Joey Aguilar didn't get the benefit of spring ball with the team. 3. Alabama Crimson Tide Overall: 3 Post-Spring Ranking: 3 Projected Win-Loss: 9.5-2.8 Alabama named veteran quarterback Ty Simpson the starter for 2025. The expectation is that Simpson is a better fit for Kalen DeBoer's offense than multi-year starter Jalen Milroe was last year. Alabama may have had a down year in their first season after Nick Saban's retirement, but there's still a bunch of talent on the roster. 2. Georgia Bulldogs Overall: 2 Post-Spring Ranking: 2 Projected Win-Loss: 9.6-2.8 The Georgia Bulldogs projected win total dropped below 10 from the post-spring Football Power Index update. If anything, it highlights the wide-open nature of the college football and SEC landscape heading into 2025. But the Bulldogs are led by the best coach in college football, Kirby Smart, and you can bet the defense will be one of the best in the nation in 2025. 1. Texas Longhorns Overall: 1 Post-Spring Ranking: 1 Projected Win-Loss: 10.4-2.2 The Texas Longhorns are the unanimous No. 1 team in the nation after taking the top spot in both the US LBM Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25. The pressure is on for the preseason favorite after back-to-back semifinal exits. Can Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns live up to the hype?
