UKMTO warns of possible impact on mariners from increase in Middle East tension
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said in an advisory note on Wednesday that it was aware of increased tensions in the Middle East which could lead to an escalation of military activity having a direct impact on mariners.
The UKMTO advised vessels to use caution when passing through the Gulf, the Gulf of Oman and Straits of Hormuz.
The UKMTO, which gathers reports on threats to shipping, did not specify the nature of the increase in tensions that prompted its alert.
The United States and Iran are expected to hold a round of talks this week on Iran's nuclear program. Washington has threatened to take military action if the talks fail, and Iran said on Wednesday it could strike US bases in the region if conflict arises.

Also, Australia Foreign Minister Penny Wong said: "Australia is alarmed by the escalation between Israel and Iran. This risks further destabilizing a region that is already volatile. We call on all parties to refrain from actions and rhetoric that will further exacerbate tensions." "We all understand the threat of Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile program represents a threat to international peace and security, and we urge the parties to prioritize dialogue and diplomacy."

Oil Prices Jump More than 5% after Israel Strikes Iran
Oil prices jumped more than 5% on Friday to hit the highest in more than two months after Israel said it struck Iran, raising concerns of escalating tensions in the Middle East that could disrupt oil supplies. Brent crude futures rose $3.91, or 5.64%, to $73.27 a barrel by 0146 GMT, the highest since April 3. US West Texas Intermediate crude was up $4.09, or 6.01%, at $72.13 a barrel, Reuters reported. Israel said early on Friday that it struck Iran, and Iranian media said explosions were heard in Tehran as tensions mounted over US efforts to win Iran's agreement to halt production of material for an atomic bomb. "The Israeli attack on Iran has heightened the risk premium further," MST Marquee senior energy analyst Saul Kavonic said. "The conflict would need to escalate to the point of Iranian retaliation on oil infrastructure in the region before oil supply is actually materially impacted," he said, adding that Iran could hinder up to 20 million barrels per day of oil supply via attacks on infrastructure or limiting passage through the Strait of Hormuz in an extreme scenario.

JERUSALEM: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel's attack on Iran would 'continue for as many days as it takes' after Israel announced it had carried out strikes on Iranian nuclear and military sites. 'This operation will continue for as many days as it takes to remove this threat,' Netanyahu said in a video statement, adding that Israel launched a 'targeted military operation to roll back the Iranian threat to Israel's very survival.' Calling the offensive 'Rising Lion,' he said Israel was also targeting Iranian commanders and missile factories, and declared a state of emergency in anticipation of retaliatory missile and drone strikes by Tehran. 'We are at a decisive moment in Israel's history,' Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in therecorded video message. 'We struck at the heart of Iran's nuclear enrichment program. We targeted Iran's main enrichment facility at Natanz... We also struck at the heart of Iran's ballistic missile program,' he said, adding that Israel had also hit Iranian nuclear scientists 'working on the Iranian bomb.' A witness in Nantanz city said multiple explosions were heard near the facility, and a senior Iranian official told Reuters that the country's leadership was holding a top security meeting.
