David Beckham lifts the lid on first meeting with Tom Brady as NFL legend joins friend at Champions League final
Soccer legend David Beckham has revealed the genesis of his friendship with a football legend of a different kind, Tom Brady, as both enjoyed the UEFA Champions League Final from Munich.
The English A-lister hosted 'Beckham & Friends' as an alternative broadcast for Paris Saint-Germain 's 5-0 thrashing of Inter Milan for continental glory.
Brady stopped by in front of cameras, with the revelation of how two of the best at their individual sports came to be good friends.
'We had an away game when I was playing with LA Galaxy,' Beckham said, dating back nearly two decades on his time in Major League Soccer.
'Romeo (Beckham) called me and said, "I'm going to throw balls over the park with Tom." Tom had got in touch with Victoria (Beckham) and said he was taking his son over park and if one of the boys would like to join'
'I said, "Tom who?" And he said, "Tom Brady."
'Your football is amazing, but there is another kind of football which is amazing too,' Brady retorted to Beckham.
Brady was in Germany for the game with two of his kids, with them joining him in a luxury suite for the game.
Beckham and Brady are good friends, with the New England Patriots legend attending the Manchester United alumnus' birthday.
The two indefatigable sporting figures have found ways to stay involved in the sports scene in the others' home country.
Beckham is the co-owner and president of MLS team Inter Miami, and played a key role in brining Lionel Messi to the team.
Brady is a minority owner of Birmingham City, which earned promotion to the Championship for this upcoming football season.

‘If that's the plan I'm Amorim out' – Man Utd fans fume at hint £62.5m signing Matheus Cunha could play shock position
MANCHESTER UNITED fans have begged Ruben Amorim to unleash Matheus Cunha's attacking potential - after reports he's preparing a new role for the Brazilian. United confirmed the capture of the 26-year-old forward for £62.5million on Sunday. 3 3 Cunha scored 17 goals for Wolves last season playing in a free-ranging No. 10 role. The versatile forward played across the front line at Molineux, including at centre forward. The Times suggest Amorim sees Cunha "slotting in as either one of the two No10s in his system." But the report claims the Portuguese could employ Cunha "slightly further back in a more defensive role." United netted just 44 goals in the Premier League last season. And some fans were not impressed by the idea of their £62.5m man being stifled in a more defensive setup. One raged on X: "If that's the plan then I'm completely Amorim out." Another agreed: "Sack Ruben Amorim on the spot if Cunha doesn't play at LF 10 or ST, this misprofiling needs to end." And a third commented: "The defensive part is surely a joke." While a fourth predicted: "So here we go again, Cunha is no defender, but we will make him into a defensive mid. Again, with the square pegs in round holes. I can see Amorim using him deeper to accommodate Mount in the 10." 'Players are not acting in the right manner' - David Beckham slams Man Utd stars' behaviour after fans clashes on tour United's flops are currently on their way back from a disastrous post-season tour of Asia. A large proportion of the squad are heading out on international duty over the next fortnight. Cunha was spotted leaving a hotel in Manchester on Sunday. A statement from the club announcing the deal said: "Everyone at Manchester United looks forward to welcoming Matheus to Old Trafford." He drove straight to the airport and jetted out to join the Brazil squad for World Cup qualifiers against Paraguay and Ecuador. SunSport has revealed Amorim is ready to get tough with his Red Devils squad following a horror campaign. Amorim has delivered a list of instructions to ensure United are in top shape for the new Prem season, which starts on the weekend of August 16. It is believed non-international players could return to the club's Carrington HQ earlier than normal, with a suggestion some may be back training by the end of THIS month. Amorim wants fitness levels to be sky high, demanding that players hit personal bests by mid-July.

Chelsea ‘want to wrap up deal for Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens before Club World Cup' with Sancho future in doubt
CHELSEA are in talks with Borussia Dortmund to sign Jamie Gittens and want a deal done before the Club World Cup, transfer reports say. The Blues are in the market for forwards and are set to welcome striker Liam Delap after agreeing a £30million move with Ipswich. 1 But a winger is also on their wishlist with Dortmund's Gittens a top priority and both clubs are now in negotiations, according to the Telegraph. Chelsea inquired about the wideman in January and Dortmund have been braced for summer bids worth £50million - matching his release clause. It comes amid uncertainty around Jadon Sancho's future after his loan from Manchester United nears an end. Chelsea have an obligation to buy him for £25m or pay a £5m penalty to get out of the deal. Sancho finished the season five goals in 42 games but his wages - believed to be around £350,000-a-week - prove a stumbling block for any suitor. Gittens - who spent time at Chelsea's academy - meanwhile ended the last campaign with 12 goals in 48 games. He had spells with Reading and City's academy before moving to Germany and progressing into Dortmund's first-team. Gittens joins the likes of Sancho and Jude Bellingham to have made their name in the Bundesliga. He helped Dortmund get to the Champions League final in 2024 - losing to Bellingham's Real Madrid. Earlier this season Gittens became the youngest English player to score in the Champion League – aged 20 and 75 days – when he netted against Real Madrid. Chelsea finally discover Club World Cup opponents as former star, 38, assists dramatic winner to set up reunion Gittens has played for England at youth level - not yet making a senior appearance - but will not play in this summer's Under-21 Euros. That is because he is set to travel with Dortmund for the Club World Cup in America - joining Chelsea in the expanded 32-team tournament. But the Blues are said to want the winger signed by the time they set off for the States. Chelsea are also linked with United's Alejandro Garnacho, who is expected to leave Old Trafford this summer. The West Londoners held talks for the Argentine last January and have also been tracking Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams. Chelsea are also looking to clear out players this summer with Noni Madueke - who scored 11 last season - also believed to be on the market. Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix - who spent the second half of last season on loan at AC Milan - are other attackers up for sale. Goalkeepers Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic could also be sold if the right bid comes in. Renato Veiga, Ben Chilwell, Axel Disasi are all due back from their respective loans but remain of favour in defence. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Carney Chukwuemeka and Lesley Ugochukwu are midfielders with uncertain futures. And Raheem Sterling, who has two years left on his £325,000-a-week contract - has no future at Chelsea after a disappointing Arsenal loan spell.

Man Utd legend backed to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham
Ange Postecoglou is expected to discover this week his Tottenham fate and is at 'extreme risk' of being sacked despite ending the club's trophy drought. Spurs owner Daniel Levy will finally come to a decision on Postecoglou's future this week after returning from his summer break. Postecoglou led Tottenham to their first trophy in 17 years as Spurs won the Europa League, beating Premier League rivals Manchester United in the final. Spurs' impressive European run was in stark contract to their domestic form as they stumped to a 17th-place finish in the Premier League. Losing 22 of 38 league games will have cost Postecoglou his job if Tottenham fell short in Europe but the club's Europa League win has complicated matters. Some Spurs fans would be stunned and disappointed if Postecoglou was axed given he is the first Tottenham manager since Juande Ramos in 2008 to lift a trophy. But others cannot look past the team's disastrous Premier League form and believe a summer change is needed for Spurs to justify their place in next season's Champions League. Postecoglou, for what it's worth, is keen to stay at the club, telling fans at the victory parade that 'season three is always better than season two'. The 59-year-old, speaking to ABC's Australian Story while spending time with his family, also insisted the Europa League win must just be the start for Spurs. 'I didn't want us to just enjoy the moment,' he said. 'I also wanted us to think about what's next, you know, don't settle for this. 'We've got a taste of it now. My players have got a taste for it. The club's got a taste for it. Well, let's make sure we're back here again.' But Levy could of course decide to sack Postecoglou this week, with Tottenham already holding talks with fellow Premier League managers Marco Silva and Thomas Frank. The Fulham and Brentford bosses have emerged as the bookmakers' favourites to replace Postecoglou but Joe Cole has tipped Michael Carrick for a return to the club. Carrick, manager of Championship side Middlesbrough since 2022, spent two years at Tottenham as a player after winning five Premier League titles and the Champions League at Manchester United. 'At Tottenham, Daniel Levy is running out of managerial candidates for the job,' ex-England star Cole told Paddy Power. 'He's gone big, he's gone bold, and he's gone off the beaten track, but none of them seem to have worked. 'Michael Carrick could be a good option for the manager's job. An ex-Spurs player, who understands the club, would be quite nice. 'Also, I'd like to see Glenn Hoddle back at the club in some capacity. I know Tottenham fans would love to see him back and he's got the best football brain I know. 'I'd love to see Glenn Hoddle back in the club in some capacity, maybe supporting Michael Carrick. The club needs bringing together because it was really torn at times last season.' Meanwhile, Danny Murphy – who also played for Tottenham – believes Silva, Frank and Crystal Palace's Oliver Glasner could all replace Postecoglou should he be dismissed. Thomas Frank 4/5 Marco Silva 4/1 Oliver Glasner 9/1 Xavi, Simone Inzaghi 12/1 Kieran McKenna, Andoni Iraola 16/1 (Odds courtesy of Betfair) 'Should Spurs get rid of Ange Postecoglou, they've got Thomas Frank, Marco Silva and Oliver Glasner on their doorstep,' he told talkSPORT BET. 'They're all very capable managers, they know the Premier League and they've all produced fit, well-organised, adaptable teams at their respective clubs. 'I think any of those three would thrive in the Spurs job with the players they'd have at their disposal. 'They may look further afield for a new manager and then who knows where they might go? Ultimately, if they make a change then I feel like it should be someone who is already working well in the Premier League – if they can get them, that is. 'You can come in from abroad and have success, we've seen Arne Slot do it this season. However, I just think it is more practical to have a manager who knows what he's coming up against straight away. 'I think one of Frank, Silva or Glasner will end up at Spurs.' Murphy added: 'Tottenham have tried so many different types of managers in the past. 'From experienced winners like Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, to more pragmatic coaches like Nuno Espirito Santo, and then the complete opposite in Ange Postecoglou. 'It's difficult to nail down what kind of manager they'll go for next. You of course want a manager with a philosophy, but they also need to be adaptable. More Trending 'You want someone who's experienced and knows how to win – there are a lot of boxes you want ticked. 'In the end, the only one who has actually brought silverware to the club is Ange, so there will be a good section of the fanbase who want the club to stick with him. 'The irony is, they won the Europa League final by being solid and pragmatic. He obviously knows how to win like that, as do the players, which makes you wonder why he doesn't do that more often.' Tottenham will travel to Hong Kong and Korea as part of their pre-season plans before the new Premier League campaign begins on August 16. For more stories like this, check our sport page.
