Toolson scores 18, top-seeded Utah Valley takes down Seattle U 68-55 in WAC semifinals

PARADISE, Nev. (AP) — Tanner Toolson had 18 points in No. 1-seeded Utah Valley's 68-55 victory over fifth-seeded Seattle U on Friday in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals.
Toolson added six rebounds and three steals for the Wolverines (25-7). Carter Welling scored 17 points and added eight rebounds. Trevan Leonhardt had eight points and shot 2 of 5 from the field, including 1 for 4 from 3-point range, and went 3 for 4 from the line. The Wolverines picked up their eighth straight victory.
Kobe Williamson finished with 20 points and two blocks for the Redhawks (14-18). Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe added 15 points and nine rebounds for Seattle U. Brayden Maldonado finished with eight points and two steals.
Utah Valley took the lead with 5:07 remaining in the first half and did not relinquish it. The score was 34-24 at halftime, with Toolson racking up 14 points. Utah Valley outscored Seattle U in the second half by three points, with Welling scoring a team-high 12 points after the break.

Having Underwood will make a big difference, but Michigan will need to have talented players around him. One anonymous Big Ten coach thinks that there should be more focus on the running backs. 'The focus is on [Bryce] Underwood, but it should be on finding new backs to go with him,' the coach said, according to an article from On3. The one offensvie position group that Michigan should be feeling really good about is the RBs, so it's a bit surprising to see a Big Ten coach have that take. The Wolverines are returning sophomore Jordan Marshall, who had a massive game in the ReliaQuest Bowl against Alabama. He won MVP of the game. Speaking of the Crimson Tide, Michigan also picked up Alabama transfer Justice Haynes, who was one of the best RBs in the transfer portal. That isn't going to be the case for Michigan QB Bryce Underwood. The Michigan football team went all out to get Underwood's commitment last fall because the staff knows that he can be an immediate game-changer. Things are trending towards him being the starter for the Wolverines this season. Advertisement Bryce Underwood enrolled early at Michigan and was able to participate in spring ball. He doesn't turn 18 until August, but he is one of the most talked about players in college football. Players like Underwood don't come around often. 'He's unique,' Michigan WRs coach Ron Bellamy said, according to an article from 247Sports. 'Big kid, strong arm, accurate, super cerebral, super smart kid. I know we've had a lot of great quarterbacks at Michigan. I don't think it's fair to Bryce to say who to compare him to now because he hasn't taken a snap yet. The way Bryce attacks football, man, he's the first one, last one,' Bellamy added. 'He's a sponge. Always wants to learn, hanging around the receivers. Great leader. For a 17-year-old kid: Unbelievable leader. We all know about the physical attributes. But I think he's on the right track. He's definitely on the right track.' 'The quarterback usually leads the team and guys follow,' Bellamy said. 'You can see that following now with some of the guys — not just guys in his class, but some of the older guys too that Bryce has done a good job with.' The hype has been building ever since Bryce Underwood announced his commitment to the Michigan football team, and it is only getting louder as the season approaches.
