Iowa basketball transfer portal target signs with Big 12 foe
The Iowa Hawkeyes were one of two finalists for Utah Valley transfer guard Tanner Toolson. A 6-foot-5, 200-pound guard, Toolson was down to Iowa or TCU. Toolson scored in double figures 25 times last season, including a season-high 28 points against Grand Canyon in the WAC Tournament championship game. The Vancouver, Wash., native helped lead Utah Valley to the WAC regular-season championship and an appearance in the NIT. Toolson was honored as a second-team All-WAC selection last season. Toolson began his career at BYU before transferring to Utah Valley and starting 65 games over the past two seasons. Reigning Horizon League Player of the Year and former Robert Morris forward Alvaro Folgueiras committed to the Hawkeyes. The 6-foot-9, 215 pound forward averaged 14.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per game while shooting 54.8% from the field, 41.3% from 3-point range and 78.4% from the free-throw line. A native of Málaga, Spain, Folgueiras played in and started all 35 games last season as he led the Colonials to the Horizon League regular season and tournament championships. Iowa has also been in contact with former Southern Illinois guard Kennard Davis Jr. as the Hawkeyes work to finalize their first roster under new head coach Ben McCollum. Toolson scores 18, top-seeded Utah Valley takes down Seattle U 68-55 in WAC semifinals

(AP) — Tanner Toolson had 18 points in No. 1-seeded Utah Valley's 68-55 victory over fifth-seeded Seattle U on Friday in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals. Toolson added six rebounds and three steals for the Wolverines (25-7). Carter Welling scored 17 points and added eight rebounds. Trevan Leonhardt had eight points and shot 2 of 5 from the field, including 1 for 4 from 3-point range, and went 3 for 4 from the line. The Wolverines picked up their eighth straight victory. Kobe Williamson finished with 20 points and two blocks for the Redhawks (14-18). Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe added 15 points and nine rebounds for Seattle U. Brayden Maldonado finished with eight points and two steals. Utah Valley took the lead with 5:07 remaining in the first half and did not relinquish it. The score was 34-24 at halftime, with Toolson racking up 14 points.
