SA Vs NZ: Henry And Duffy Help New Zealand Edge South Africa In T20I Tri Series
Matt Henry and Jacob Duffy took six wickets, leading New Zealand to a 21-run win over South Africa in the T20I Tri-Series.
Matt Henry and Jacob Duffy claimed six wickets between them, guiding New Zealand to a 21-run victory over South Africa in their opening match of the T20I Tri-Series at Harare Sports Club, defending a total of 173.
Henry's early breakthroughs (3/34) and Duffy's crucial strikes in the final overs (3/20) overwhelmed the Proteas, despite a spirited fightback led by George Linde.
This win marked a successful start to Rob Walter's coaching tenure with New Zealand, facing the team he previously coached.
Chasing 174, South Africa struggled at 111 for 7 in the 14th over. Linde (30 off 20) and Gerald Coetzee (17) then formed a 37-run partnership, keeping their hopes alive. With 31 needed from the last three overs, Linde mistimed a pull shot and was caught at deep mid-wicket off Duffy. Duffy then dismissed Coetzee on the next ball, sealing the victory and earning a well-deserved three-wicket haul.
Henry's new-ball spell set the tone earlier, including the key wicket of Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who had made a quick 27 but edged behind in the fourth over. Henry's bounce and movement troubled the South African top order, reducing them to 62 for 5 inside nine overs.
Earlier in the day, New Zealand posted 173 for 5, thanks to a remarkable fightback from Tim Robinson (75 not out) and debutant Bevon Jacobs (44), who added an unbroken 103-run stand for the sixth wicket. Their partnership rescued the BlackCaps from a precarious 70 for 5 in the 10th over, making it New Zealand's second-highest stand for the sixth wicket in T20Is.
Robinson showed composure and flair, hitting Coetzee for three sixes, including an impressive uppercut over backward point. Jacobs, playing his first game for New Zealand, rotated the strike effectively and punished loose deliveries, complementing Robinson perfectly.
Earlier, South Africa's bowlers struck regularly, with Kwena Maphaka, Gerald Coetzee, and Corbin Bosch chipping away. However, they couldn't contain the late surge, which proved decisive.
Pretorius, after a golden duck in the series opener, came out aggressively. He hit five boundaries in his 17-ball 27, giving the chase early momentum. But once Henry dismissed him, wickets fell quickly.
Rassie van der Dussen's run-out, a sharp piece of fielding involving Tom Seifert and Mitchell Santner, added to South Africa's troubles. The middle order failed to fire, and even Brevis and Linde's counter-attacks weren't enough.
With Michael Bracewell, Glenn Phillips, and Rachin Ravindra unavailable due to MLC duties, New Zealand will be encouraged by the performance of their bench strength. Walter's new era has started with grit, control, and a win.
Brief Scores: New Zealand 173/5 (Tim Robinson 75 not out, Bevon Jacobs 44, Kwena Maphaka 2/38) beat South Africa 152 all out in 18.2 overs (Dewald Brevis 35, George Linde 30; Jacob Duffy 3/20, Matt Henry 3/34) by 21 runs.

T20I Tri-series: South Africa sail into final with seven-wicket win over Zimbabwe
Rassie Van der Dussen and Rubin Hermann. (PIC - IANS) South Africa handed hosts Zimbabwe their third consecutive defeat in the ongoing T20I Tri-series with a seven-wicket win at the Harare Sports Club here on Sunday. With this win, the Proteas are through to the final of the series, where they will face New Zealand on July 26. Half-centuries by Rubin Hermann (63) and Rassie Van der Dussen (52 not out) saw South Africa chase down Zimbabwe's total of 144/6 in 17.2 overs with 16 balls to spare. Zimbabwe looked intent on not losing any early wickets as Wessly Madhevere (13) struck consecutive boundaries off Lungi Ngidi before being dismissed by Corbin Bosch. Clive Madande (8) struck a six off Nandre Burger before he too fell to Bosch. The wicket-keeper batter has been dismissed for eight runs in all three games so far in the tri-series. Skipper Sikander Raza (9) failed to make much of an impression as he was dismissed while attempting a slog sweep, which saw the ball sail straight to Burger at deep backward square. From there, Bennett and Ryan Burl (36 not out) began the rescue act for the hosts and put on a 78-run stand. A six and a four off Nqabayomzi Peter saw Bennett begin the fightback. He then went on to dish out the same treatment to George Linde to conjure 13 runs off the 13th over. A six off Linde saw Bennett raise his fourth T20I half-century in 38 deliveries. He followed it with consecutive boundaries off Ndidi before being bowled over by the Proteas pacer later in the 16th over. Despite Bennett's dismissal, Zimbabwe had the opportunity to register a strong total, but Tashinga Musekiwa (0), Tony Munyonga (1), and Tinotenda Maposa (8*) failed to make much of an impact, while also failing to rotate strike, which saw Burl miss out on a chance to finish strong. Bosch was heavily impressed on the day with two wickets and only 16 runs given in his four-over spell as Zimbabwe were restricted to 144/6 in 20 overs. In response, Zimbabwe started well with Tinotenda Maposa claiming the wickets of Lhuan-dre Pretorius (4) and Reeza Hendricks (6). The hosts had the chance to dismiss Rubin Hermann with a run-out, but skipper Raza missed the stumps. Van der Dussen and Hermann rotated the strike well and started building their partnership, but it was not until the 10th over that they picked up the pace by accumulating 17 runs from Raza. Hermann brought up his 29-ball half-century with a six off Maposa and began to take the game away from Zimbabwe. His innings, laced with three boundaries and four maximums, came to an end in the 16th over when he was bowled by Richard Ngarava; however, it was too late by then. Van der Dussen and Dewald Brevis steered the Proteas home, with the latter also scoring a half century off 40 deliveries, and ultimately sealed the seven-wicket victory. Brief score: Zimbabwe 144/6 in 20 overs (Brian Bennett 61, Ryan Burl 36 not out; Corbin Bosch 2-16) lost to South Africa 145/3 in 17.2 overs (Rubin Hermann 63, Rassie Van der Dussen 52 not out; Tinotenda Maposa 2-38) by seven wickets

No Sachin Tendulkar! Hashim Amla Picks 3 Best Batters Of All Time
Tendulkar is arguably the greatest batter of all time. The former India opener and captain holds the record for scoring the most runs in the Test and ODI formats of the game. Legendary South African top-order batter and former captain Hashim Amla is in England these days, where he is playing for AB de Villiers-led South Africa Champions in the World Championship of Legends. The 42-year-old right-handed batter scored 15 runs from 18 balls against West Indies Legends on Saturday (July 19) and will next take the field against India Legends at County Ground in Northampton on Tuesday, July 22. Amla, who amassed a total of 2527 runs against India in 52 matches played across formats, ahead of the big match against the Yuvraj Singh-led side, during an interview with Star Sports, was asked to pick his three best batters of all time, and he included one Indian in his list, but surprisingly that name was not Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar, who played for India from November 1989 to November 2013, is arguably the greatest batter of all time. The 51-year-old right-handed batter holds the record of playing the most Tests and ODIs and scoring the most runs in the five-day and 50-over formats of the game. But according to Amla, who finished his career with 18,672 runs in 349 matches for South Africa across formats, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Viv Richards are the three best batters according to him. 'There are so many over the years. Growing up my three favourite players were Brian Lara, Steve Waugh, and Jacques Kallis, also being from South Africa. But also maybe three other names: you've got Virat (Kohli) in recent times, AB de Villiers, and I'd say one more old one—Sir Vivian Richards."
