The Hindu5 days ago

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has withdrawn an order for 40 electric buses issued to MEIL subsidiary, EVEY Trans.
The 40 electric buses were part of the order for 50 such for inter-city operations the State Transport Corporation had placed with EVEY in April 2023.
The TGSRTC has reduced the order to 10 buses which have already been delivered. In respect of the balance 40, the order has been withdrawn, another MEIL entity Olectra Greentech informed stock exchanges on Saturday.
As per the tender conditions, EVEY was executing the contract with TGSRTC through a special purpose vehicle company EVEY Trans in which electric bus maker Olectra had 26% stake and EVEY the remaining 74%. Under the contractual terms, the buses were required to be procured from Olectra and who additionally was responsible for their maintenance.
The order for supply of 50 electric buses was to be on gross cost contract (GCC) / OPEX model basis for the contract period of 10 years. Olectra did not specify reasons for which the order for the remaining 40 buses was withdrawn by the State Transport Corporation.
The TGSRTC had in April 2023 also placed order for 500 electric buses for intra-city operations, along with the 50 buses for intercity operations, it said.
Except for reduction in existing order book by 40 buses, there is no material adverse impact since it is having huge order book for electric buses, Olectra said in the filing.

Chennai Corporation revives plan to renovate 765 bus shelters

Bus shelters in Chennai are due for an upgrade as the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has revived plans to renovate 765 bus shelters across the city after an earlier tender process failed. In March 2024, the GCC floated tenders for the renovation and maintenance of 765 bus shelters at a cost of ₹29 crore. But this did not take off, according to sources in the GCC. The Hindu had reported on the poor condition of several bus shelters. Now, of the city's 1,558 bus shelters, 704 shelters and 61 older ones, whose concession terms have ended, are slated to be refurbished, according to GCC's Bus Route Roads Department. The civic body has called for a consultant to assess the feasibility of the revamp, validate data from the previous tender, and review existing shelter designs. Within five months, the consultant must prepare tender documents, define bidder qualifications, and finalise the selection process. Once the reviewing is done, the GCC, along with the Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Development Board, will issue another tender to finalise a private party to renovate and maintain the bus shelters. Communist Party of India (Marxist) councillor R. Jayaraman (Ward 4) said, 'After concerns were raised regarding the bus stop in Jothi Nagar at the Ward meeting on May 15, the GCC simply placed a metal sheet over the existing shelter's skeleton; it was not installed properly. Also, shelters in areas such as Mullai Nagar lack proper flooring and seating arrangements. The GCC does address complaints but not in an efficient manner. This must change,' he added. An official in the GCC refuted this, and said grievances were addressed regularly.

BCG report: AI accelerates GCC maturity evolution

Bengaluru: A Boston Consulting Group (BCG) report showed that only 8% of global capability centres (GCCs) advanced significantly across the three dimensions critical to enterprise value—innovation, competitive differentiation, and operational efficiency. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now GCCs are undergoing swift evolution in their scope and aspirations; however, most continue to prioritise operational delivery, failing to realise their full potential as capability centres that could drive organisation-wide transformation. Drawing from a worldwide survey of GCC and enterprise leadership, the findings call for a fundamental shift in how organisations configure, fund, and leverage their GCCs—positioning them beyond support functions to become central catalysts for innovation, AI implementation, and commercial success. Sreyssha George, managing director and partner at BCG, said, "Leading GCCs are moving beyond scale to build real enterprise advantage. They're investing in the right talent, identifying untapped value pools, and reimagining business journeys to deliver differentiated impact. AI brought fresh momentum—enabling GCCs to lead transformation, not just support it. Over 90% of top performers set up or expanded AI-led centres of excellence in the past 18 months, a trend consistent across industries and geographies. " India, the US, and Mexico emerge as the most balanced GCC ecosystems—with India uniquely combining scale, innovation, and efficiency. The report highlights AI as a critical accelerator of GCC maturity. While top performers moved beyond pilots to embed AI across core workflows, most GCCs remain trapped in early-stage experimentation. High-performing GCCs stand out through nine key enablers, including embedded leadership, dedicated innovation budgets, AI integration, and strong governance—marking a clear shift from traditional models. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The report said value creation is now central to GCC maturity. Leading centres take full ownership, influence decisions, and deliver tangible impact. Technology firms lead in AI and product innovation, while consumer products and goods players excel with innovation-driven models. Top performers stand apart on nine enablers, especially in modular algorithms, leadership and autonomy, and microservices/API—with AI emerging as a future-defining differentiator. Microservices architecture and modular algorithms are utilised by top GCCs to enhance operational efficiency and deliver seamless, scalable solutions. About 70% of top performers host a significant number of global roles in hubs, versus 10% for underperformers. About 60% of top performers operate under centralised or semi-centralised decision models. About 50% of top performers have a fully activated, robust EVP—six times higher than underperformers.
