Kaziranga bids adieu to anti-poaching sniffer dog
A female German Shepherd, K9 Karina, served the tiger reserve for 10 years with her handlers Jitu Gogoi and Manas Bora. She was considered one of the most efficient members of the AFPF's drug squad.
'K9 Karina recovered from a major surgery in December 2024, but she breathed her last on May 8 due to old age-related health issues,' Kaziranga's Field Director, Sonali Ghosh, said.
K9 Katrina was trained at the Dog Training School of the Bhopal-based 23rd Battalion of the Special Armed Forces as a part of the World Wide Fund for Nature-India's Sniffer Dog Programme.
'She was known for her role in anti-poaching and anti-crime activities apart from patrolling, assisting us in solving many cases,' Ms. Ghosh said.
Her achievements included identifying a shelter of rhino poachers within the National Park's Burapahar Range in 2018, assisting a forest patrol team in seizing a rifle in Karbi Anglong in 2023, and tracking down a murderer in 2016.
The last rites for K9 Katrina were performed with State honours at Seekoni, the headquarters of the AFPF's 2nd Battalion.

Minutes later, a similar explosion happened outside De'Orra Club, also damaging its glass windows. No injuries were reported. Police began investigating both incidents and collecting evidence from the sites. Authorities checked CCTV footage to identify the culprits. During the initial investigation, it was suspected to be an act of intimidation, allegedly done for extortion purposes. 'We received information in the control room that someone here had a personal issue. When the investigating officer arrived at the spot, he found broken glass. The case is still at a preliminary stage, and the forensic team is collecting evidence. We received the complaint at 3:25 AM,' Deputy Superintendent of Police Dilbagh Singh Dhaliwal told reporters at that time. Goldy Brar is a Canada-based gangster. Mumbai Influencer Says Delhi Is One Of The ‘Mosttt' Unsafe Places, Shares Travel ‘Trauma'
Last Updated: The woman described two separate experiences with Uber and Rapido drivers that made her feel extremely unsafe, emphasising how both rides turned into distressing ordeals. Delhi has a reputation for being an unsafe city, especially for women, with a high incidence of crimes against them, including sexual assault and harassment. Now, as we're busy fighting against the menace of increasing stray dogs in Delhi-NCR, a Mumbai-based woman has grabbed attention after she shared her 'traumatic experience' with a cab driver during her recent trip to the national capital. In an Instagram post, she described two separate experiences with Uber and Rapido drivers that made her feel extremely unsafe, emphasising how both rides turned into distressing ordeals. In the video, the woman mentioned booking a Rapido cab from Delhi Airport and asking the driver to switch on the air conditioning. However, he fiercely refused, saying, 'It will be turned on at my own choice. If you need air conditioning so badly, get another cab." Following the altercation, she approached Rapido's airport support desk to seek help. While the staff was courteous, she stated that she eventually had to hire an Uber to continue her journey to Noida, unaware of what was coming next. Panicked, she texted her sister and gave the cab information. Her sister instructed her to get out of her car immediately. She pretended to be unaware of the driver's conduct, telling him she needed to pass something to a friend who had just arrived. She then grabbed her suitcase, exited the vehicle, and ran to a congested location, where she called another cab. The video caption reads, 'It's 2 min + video, but I need to share what happens in our capital city (DELHI)! One of the mosttt unsafe places to visit. Don't know when it will get better, but it's surely getting worse!" View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ruchika Lohiya (@__chikka) How Did Social Media React? The video sparked fresh discussions about the safety of women in the Capital and while travelling through cabs. Responding to the clip, Uber India assured her to look into the matter and commented, 'Hi Ruchika, this is extremely concerning to hear. Uber takes rider safety very seriously, so we'd like to look into this. Please DM us your Uber account and trip details so we can further investigate." Rapido, on the other hand, wrote, 'We apologise for the trouble caused on your recent ride. This is not the kind of service we aim to provide. Kindly share your registered mobile number and ride ID via DM so that we can assist you further." A concerned follower advised her, 'Girls DO NOT DO NOT NEVER EVER SLEEP IN A CAB! Maut hi kyu na ajaye lekin sona mat coffee pio call kro kisi ko nahi h koi to imaginary boyfriend se baatein karo 'pretend' kyuki unfortunately it's not safe for us anywhere." 'Sleeping in a cab is the last thing I would ever do in my life. At the same time, how sad it is to address a woman's safety," an Instagram user commented. Another person wrote, 'I have studied, lived and worked in Delhi NCR; whether it was 20 years ago or to date it is the most unsafe city for women in the world." According to the National Crime Records Bureau, Delhi constantly records a high number of crimes, particularly against women, making it one of the most unsafe cities for women in India. tags : delhi influencer viral news women safety view comments Location : Delhi, India, India First Published: August 13, 2025, 13:30 IST News viral Mumbai Influencer Says Delhi Is One Of The 'Mosttt' Unsafe Places, Shares Travel 'Trauma' | Video Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
