Team news
Willie le Roux becomes the eighth centurion for the Springboks as the full-back wins cap number 100 for South Africa in a side containing plenty of experience. There is still no Siya Kolisi, though, with Salmaan Moerat skippering from the second row. Andre Esterhuizen and Canan Moodie form a new-look centre partnership outside of Manie Libbok, stationed at fly half.
Debuts, meanwhile, await giant tighthead Asenathi Ntlabakanye, sizeable lock Cobus Wiese and comparatively compact centre Ethan Hooker off the bench.
There are five changes for Italy as Niccolo Cannone captains again following an impressive showing in Pretoria last Saturday. Full-back Mirko Belloni contrasts with his opposite number Le Roux in making his first international start on what is just his second cap, with Louis Lynagh and Jacopo Trulla comprising the rest of the back three.

Sebastian Negri is a welcome returnee on the flank in a balanced back row with Manuel Zuliani and Ross Vintcent, while there are six forwards on the bench ready to provide impact again.

'Ready to go now': Many sent clear message about Daly Cherry-Evans' replacement
The manager of the player being groomed as Manly's long-term halfback has told Yahoo he's ready to take the step up to the NRL right now if Sea Eagles coach Anthony Seibold wants an early glimpse into the future. Rookie playmaker Joey Walsh has impressed in his first year in the NSW Cup after switching from rugby union last summer, making 13 appearances and holding his own against more seasoned opposition. Just last weekend the former Australian schoolboy rugby star helped guide Manly's Cup side to a 30-12 win over a Newcastle team featuring Tyson Gamble and Jackson Hastings in the halves. Seibold has so far resisted looking too far ahead as the club continues to fight for a top eight berth, fending off suggestions the departing Daly Cherry-Evans should make way for Walsh. Canberra's Jamal Fogarty will take DCE's place next year, but the Manly boss may be tempted to blood Walsh later this month if his side fades from finals view. Walsh's manager Cameron Day said the 19-year-old, who has been working closely with Cherry-Evans and five-eighth Luke Brooks at training all year, would answer the call if promoted to the NRL. "Joey's a very ambitious, confident, charismatic kind of a kid so if it was up to him, he'd want to play and play now," Day told Yahoo Sport Australia. "He feels he's ready to go and would love to get that phone call any day. "He's a high-achieving alpha dog who is ready for anything that's thrown at him. But selections are none of my business. That's a coach's decision and there is no pressure whatsoever from anyone at our end or Joey's. "Those experienced halves in front of him have been great to him and he's learning from them, and if it rolls that way and he doesn't get picked this year, that's no stress at all. He's very much a team player and will play where he gets picked." RELATED: Panthers star on hunt for new NRL club after contract not renewed Craig Bellamy responds after Ivan Cleary calls for NRL rule change Daly Cherry-Evans' big raps for Joey Walsh Cherry-Evans was impressed with Walsh from the moment he first clapped eyes on him, telling Zero Tackle at the start of the year: "He's young player with all of the skills and abilities. "He's just going to absorb everything that our club and the game has to offer. No doubt he's going to be there one day playing for Manly for sure." Walsh has a further two years to run on his deal at Brookvale. Day said: "This has been a really good development year for Joey and he's as happy as Larry at Manly."

'Nothing there for him': Panthers star on hunt for new club after contract not renewed
Penrith unsung hero Daine Laurie is on the search for his next club after reportedly being told he won't have a new contract offered by the Panthers. The versatile back is on a one-year deal for 2025, and had been hoping for a new contract for next season. But the Panthers have reportedly told him he won't have his contract renewed, leaving him on the hunt for a new club. Laurie has played 21 games for the Panthers since re-joining the club in 2024. He's spent the majority of 2025 in NSW Cup as he serves as back-up to State of Origin fullback Dylan Edwards. The 26-year-old began his career with Penrith in 2020, before a move to the Wests Tigers that saw him play 49 games for the joint-venture. He moved back to the Panthers in 2024, but is now on the outer. "He's been told by the club that there won't be a contract for him beyond this year," Michael Chammas said on Channel 9 this week. "He's off-contract at the end of the year and has been told there's nothing there for him. "It's on the back of Mavrik Geyer being told the same thing from the Panthers. They're looking to replenish some of their depth players in their squad. Most of the players off-contract won't be getting new deals." Laurie is a more-than-capable fullback who'd probably be starting at most clubs. He's been forced to bide his time behind Edwards at the Panthers, but never let the club down when asked to play first-grade. He showed how capable and versatile he is when he scored a double in the opening round against Cronulla in Las Vegas. The Panthers were reportedly interested in signing Tyrell Sloan from the Dragons, after the speedster was told he was free to negotiate with rival clubs. However Penrith recently denied interest in Sloan, who many thought would be a replacement for Laurie as Edwards' back-up. Mavrik Geyer departing Panthers but Luke Garner staying put As Chammas pointed out, Mavrik Geyer has also been told he won't have his contract renewed. The son of Panthers legend Mark Geyer has signed with the Wests Tigers for 2026 to join Benji Marshall's side. The Panthers are looking to replenish some of their young talent amid constant raids of their junior ranks from rival clubs. However they scored a coup of their own when they signed young playmaker Keahn Skipps from the Canberra Raiders recently. RELATED: Craig Bellamy responds after Ivan Cleary calls for NRL rule change Cooper Cronk warns Broncos coach against major Reece Walsh mistake The Panthers also recently stated that Luke Garner will be staying put in 2026 despite reports he'd been told he could leave a year early. "My understanding is he is staying, which is great," coach Ivan Cleary said last month. "We always wanted him to stay. It was one of the situations where if he can have a look and extend you maybe think about it. But we're really happy, he is playing great footy and looking forward to the future with him. He has been really good for us which we've needed."

Smith wins, but fails to lick Tongue in Ashes preview
A 100-ball thrash in Cardiff is a long way from a Test match in Perth, and not just geographically, but there was an Ashes sub-plot when Steve Smith faced up to Josh Tongue at Sophia Gardens. Smith was opening the batting for a Welsh Fire side badly in need of a win after losing their first two Hundred Men matches. Tongue was opening the bowling for visitors Manchester Originals. Fast forward 100 days and the pair could well be in opposition in the opening Ashes Test. An uncapped Tongue was the first English bowler to dismiss Smith during the latter's spell with Sussex ahead of the 2023 Ashes. He then dismissed Smith in both innings of that year's Lord's Test, albeit the batter had already made 110 in the first dig. So there was a bit of history as Tongue ran in to bowl at Smith in the Welsh capital on Wednesday. Steve Smith hits HARD 💥#TheHundred — The Hundred (@thehundred) August 13, 2025 Smith had already faced five balls from Sonny Baker, England's next fast bowling hope who rushed David Warner on Monday, surviving a tight lbw appeal first ball then cracking a wide one through cover for four. Tongue's second ball was also widish, and Smith launched it for an extraordinary six over cover. Advantage Smith. When Tongue returned for a second set Smith lifted him over the extra cover in-field for four. Tongue replied with a 145kph head-high bouncer that Smith, hooking, failed to connect with. Steve Smith was starting to hit some big Josh Tongue did THIS 🔥#TheHundred — The Hundred (@thehundred) August 13, 2025 Smith charged the next ball, but Tongue saw him coming and dug it into the pitch. The Australian, swinging shoulder-high, could only thick edge to wicketkeeper Jos Buttler, departing for 26 off 22. It might not mean much come Perth, but dismissing Smith once more won't do Tongue any harm. But given the context Smith won't be concerned. As he said beforehand: "You're going to fail more than you succeed in this format, so don't overthink things too much, go out and play with a free spirit, and hopefully make some scores." With Baker having had Fire's other star opener, Jonny Bairstow, caught slip for a duck, Fire scrambled their way to 8-137 aided by a cameo from Chris Green. Chris Green that is SENSATIONAL 🤯#TheHundred — The Hundred (@thehundred) August 13, 2025 Chris Green takes one of two superb catches to give Riley Meredith one of his four wickets The Sydney Thunder allrounder smacked Baker for six over cow corner and four over mid-off, prompting three successive wides from the tyro. He also hit Tongue for six, but was then caught off him for 19 off nine. Riley Meredith, bowling almost as quick as Tongue, soon made that target look huge, the Tasmanian taking 3-6 in ten balls to reduce Originals to 3-14. Green dismissed Heinrich Klaasen, following up with the key wicket of Buttler (57 off 34) caught in the deep, finishing with 3-19 off his 20. He also took a couple of superb catches. Meredith came back to bowl Baker and close with 4-9 off 17 balls, earning Fire victory by 25 runs. Earlier, in Southampton, Hilton Cartwright was dismissed for one as Southern Brave were restricted to 5-139 by Northern Superchargers. Laurie Evans, who has played BBL for Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers, top-scored with 53 and James Coles made 49. New Zealand duo Jacob Duffy (3-26) and Mitchell Santner (2-24) both shone in their 20-ball stints. Superchargers looked to be easing to victory but Jofra Archer (2-15 off 20) took two late wickets and it came down to the last ball. Needing five to win Graham Clark (38no) slapped Tymal Mills for six.
