Scrim discovers his ‘Window on Canal'
'Ceaux' is Courtney Buckley.
His canvas, WGNO Good Morning New Orleans features reporter Bill Wood wants you to know, is right on Canal Street.
Right on top of Rubensteins, New Orleans oldest men's store.
Right there is where he found his window of opportunity.
Inspired by the city's dog of the day, Scrim.
'This canvas is a piece that I put together to compile characters to project joy through Canal Street,' said Buckley.
Scrim is the escape artist rescue mutt who captured the heart of the city every time he ran away from his latest home.
Now, Scrim shows up, up and down Canal Street. It's part of what's called Celebrate Canal! This first installation is called 'Canal Street Menagerie.'
From Rubensteins to the Palace Cafe to the Ruby Slipper to the Saenger Theatre.
It's called 'Windows on Canal.'
'It takes the energy from the business owners and the artists and connects it with the vibe of the public,' said Buckley.
You'll see Scrim through Sunday, July 6, Essence Festival weekend.
Canal Street was once New Orleans' main street.
It's been a bumpy boulevard lately but now, it's getting some spiffy window dressing from artists around town.

Barktoberfest being held in Thibodaux
THIBODAUX, La. (WGNO) — Fun for people and pets is returning to Thibodaux! Barktoberfest will be held at the Laurel Valley Plantation on Sunday, Oct. 5, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. According to a news release, it is a community-driven outdoor festival held annually, dedicated to supporting HOPE for Animals, a rescue organization in South Louisiana. Hurricane Katrina documentary, ‘A Reason To Stay' screening at The Broad Theater
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — With the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, there will be a special screening of a documentary shot during and immediately after Hurricane Katrina. WGNO's Kenny Lopez spoke with the married couple who captured all the footage for the documentary while riding out the storm. 'It's a time marker, everyone refers to it as before Katrina or after Katrina,' Harry Peter Becnel said. This is the story of during Katrina. 'There are thousands of stories and this is ours,' Becnel said. Harry Peter Becnel III co-directed the documentary with Janene Knox. Becnel's wife, Angela took the still photos used in the film. The documentary, 'A Reason To Stay,' tells the story of newlyweds Peter and Angela Becnel who just bought a house on Toulouse and North Rendon in Mid-City, just four days before Hurricane Katrina. Hurricane Katrina Victim Haunting New Orleans Burger Joint? 'I felt like we had to stay and protect our house in a sense,' Peter Becnel said. 'We really had no idea it would be this bad,' Angela Becnel said. 'I felt very vulnerable because we didn't have any money to leave honestly,' Peter Becnel said. Peter captured all the distress. 'I did three hours of straight footage in and after the storm on a mini DV camera,' he said. While Angela took the still photos. Filmmaker Edward Buckles Jr. talks about his new HBO documentary, 'Katrina Babies' 'I was capturing nothing but sadness, so at some point I had to put the camera down,' Angela Becnel said. For them life, which felt like a movie, became a movie. 'We were stuck for three days in flood waters. We were there from Sunday to Wednesday and then on Wednesday we were choppered out. We were lucky enough to have a cousin flying the plane so they brought us straight to Baton Rouge,' Peter Becnel said. Twenty years later this couple is remembering the connection they felt by helping their neighbors and their continued love for New Orleans. Man remembers rescuing over 400 people during Hurricane Katrina 'You can get through hard times if you believe and trust,' Angela said. 'I think people just want to feel it. Feel what it was about and not try to dissect it. I'm just going to tell my story,' Peter said. The special screening of 'A Reason To Stay,' will take place at The Broad Theater Aug. 29, the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina at 7:00 p.m. Following the screening there will be a concert at The Broadside with the band, R. Scully & Friends who provided the award-winning soundtrack for the film. For ticket information. Keke Palmer has built a career on saying exactly what she means, and in her latest conversation at the 2025 Essence Festival of Culture, she didn't sugarcoat the reality of parenting right now. Her advice to working moms? 'Don't feel guilt.' 'Your child is your child because you were meant to be their parent. And as a working parent, it could be really, really hard because you're wondering like, 'Damn, is this good for me and my child?' But the reality is, if you got to work, you got to work. Just don't feel guilt where it pertains to receiving help with your child, because it takes a village,' she told Parents. '[Leo made me] realize what is the most important thing… when you have a child that needs you, it's easier for you to prioritize what is best for your sense of self.' For Palmer, rejecting mom guilt isn't a warm-and-fuzzy affirmation — it's a practical survival tool in an economy where the math doesn't add up. Parents are already working more hours for less stability, paying more for child care than their own education cost, and covering the gap with sheer burnout. Her point is simple: the village is not a luxury.
