Ancelotti defends Real Madrid sensation amid poor international displays – ‘Convinced he will show his best firm'

Ancelotti defends Real Madrid sensation amid poor international displays – 'Convinced he will show his best firm' Carlo Ancelotti has started his journey as Brazil's head coach with enthusiasm and optimism, especially when it comes to Vinicius Jr. In his first press conference before Brazil's match against Ecuador, the former Real Madrid manager could not stop praising the 24-year-old forward. Advertisement According to Ancelotti, his first few training sessions with the national team have been 'something special,' and he is determined to bring the best version of Vinicius to the Brazil shirt. Vinicius Jr., who has just recovered from a minor ankle injury, is set to feature in Ancelotti's debut match on the sidelines for Brazil. 'Vini is fine and is motivated as always,' said the Italian coach. 'We expect the best from him. He is obviously a key player for us.' Bringing club form to country Ancelotti is aware of the ongoing debate about why Vinicius has not quite replicated his Real Madrid form for the national team. Advertisement 'He may not have shown his best yet in the Brazil shirt, but I'm convinced he will,' Ancelotti said. 'At Madrid, he's proved time and again that he's a game-changer. We have to work to ensure he feels the same here,' added the new Brazil head coach He emphasised that Vinicius is fundamental to his plans, even if performances occasionally dip. 'He might not always be at his best, but his qualities are unique. He's unpredictable and can shift the momentum of any game. That's why he's so vital to us,' Ancelotti concluded. Vinicius' form for the Brazil national team has been questionable, but now with Ancelotti at helm, the South American nation has enough optimism to hope for a better output from the Real Madrid forward. Liverpool are BIG admirers of €30m-rated Spanish jewel

Liverpool are facing uncertainty in the centre-back position. Although Virgil van Dijk has been secured to a contract until 2027, his defensive colleagues are not so sure of their futures. Ibrahima Konate is out of contract in 2026 and so far no breakthrough has been reached in talks over a new deal. If sporting director Richard Hughes doesn't succeed in tying him down then the Frenchman could well be sold this summer. Advertisement Also up for debate are Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez. Quansah, 22, could be sacrificed if the club manage to attract a decent fee while Gomez might well be sold having come close to joining either Aston Villa or Newcastle last year. If any of those three leaves then it opens a vacancy in the centre of Liverpool's defence. We've seen Jorrel Hato linked, along with Jarrad Branthwaite and others but there is another name now on the list and one which will be familiar to incoming Reds goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili. Liverpool like Cristhian Mosquera Cristhian Mosquera, 20, was outstanding for Valencia in LaLiga last season. The Spanish defender played 37 times for Los Che - ranking highly on FOTMOB for tackles won, duels won, interceptions and recoveries. Advertisement Mosquera has a contract which expires at the Mestalla in 2026 and this summer the club could be prepared to listen to transfer offers for their homegrown star. And now according to a new report on Caught Offside, Liverpool are tracking the youngster - although he could end up at RB Leipzig as a stepping stone before going to the Premier League. 'Liverpool are big admirers of Mosquera, who is also on Chelsea's radar and whose asking price would be in the region of €30m,' a report reads. Mosquera likely to go to Leipzig 'Tottenham, Crystal Palace and West Ham have also been monitoring Mosquera, but it's currently felt that he's leaning towards a move to RB Leipzig. Advertisement 'The player and his representatives feel he could be best served by a move to the Bundesliga before perhaps joining a top English club later.' Leipzig have successfully offloaded players like Konate, Naby Keita and Dominik Szoboszlai to the Reds over the years and if Mosquera follows suit then in the years ahead they could be back once again.

Newcastle confirm signing of Antonio Cordero from Malaga

Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of Antonio Cordero from Spanish second-tier side Malaga. The 18-year-old winger — a Spain Under-19 international — will join on a free transfer after his current contract expires at the end of this month. The Athletic previously reported both Barcelona and Real Madrid were interested before the Premier League club won the race. Advertisement The transfer is subject to completion of the registration process with the Premier League and the Football Association, the club say, as well as the obtaining of a UK visa. He is expected to head out on loan next season. 'It's truly an honour to be here, truly a pleasure,' he said. 'I am a person who likes to aspire high. Why not come to one of the best places in the world to do it. 'It's a big step, and that's one of the reasons I'm here. I'm happy to do it and have a great desire to get going already.' Outgoing sporting director, Paul Mitchell, said: 'Antonio is an exciting talent. We're delighted to bring him to Newcastle United amidst interest in Spain and across Europe. 'He has lots of potential, and the next phase of his development will be for the club to select a loan move that will challenge him and build on his experiences.' Cordero joined Malaga's youth system in 2021 and signed his first professional contract with the club the following year. He made his senior debut before appearing for Atletico Malagueno, the club's 'B' side, in September 2023, coming on as a substitute against Atletico Madrid's reserve team in a third tier match. Cordero spent time with the B team that season while making appearances off the bench for the senior team. His most impactful performance came in the Primera Federacion play-offs, where he came on as a substitute to score in the last minute of the second leg of the play-off final against Gimnastic de Tarragona to put Malaga ahead 4-3 on aggregate, earning them promotion to the Segunda Division. Cordero regularly appeared for Malaga last season, starting 23 of his 40 games and providing six goals and seven assists. (Francis Gonzalez/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images)
