Nayak, who heads Unit 9 of the Mumbai crime branch, is scheduled to retire on July 31. State's biggest ever drug haul: Cops seize 188 kg worth Rs 381 cr
Mysuru: During Saturday's joint operation, Mumbai police along with the city police seized approximately of 188 kg of MDMA worth Rs 381.9 crore, making it the state's biggest ever drugs haul. "The police raided a drug manufacturing factory named MD (Mephedrone) operating behind a garage," explained Mumbai police. Cases are booked under section 8(C) of the NDPS Act, 1985. According to sources, on July 24, a case was registered against a person who came to sell drugs under Sakinaka police station limits. A total of three accused were arrested in the said crime, and 4.5 kilograms of MD and materials for making MD, totalling up to Rs 8 crore, were seized. The next day, another accused wanted in the crime was arrested, and during the investigation, he revealed that he also purchased MD from Mysuru. Based on the information and after a technical analysis, an investigation was carried out, and a raid was conducted on the manufacturing factory in Mysuru. The said factory was being run secretly in a shed on the Outer Ring Road, behind a garage, in a manner that would not be easily noticed by anyone, they stated. During the raid, the police seized Mephedrone (MD) of approximately 188 kg worth Rs 381.9 crore (as per international market price), besides an oven worth Rs 2,450, a heating machine worth Rs 12,120, 168 kgs of isopropyl alcohol worth Rs 65,000, acetone (168 kg - Rs 20,000), chloroform 60 kg worth Rs 12,000 magnesium sulphate (24,950 kg), and equipment for making MD, plastic trays, glass trays, plastic tubs and buckets, and other materials. A total of 5.7 kg ganja was seized. City police commissioner Seema Latkar led this drive. The excise department also joined the drive against drugs in the city. On Monday, a team led by excise dept deputy superintendent HK Ramesh destroyed six ganja plants grown in an open plot in the heart of the city. These six plants weighed around 3.3 kgs. Cases have been registered against the site owner.
