For years, Tata Consultancy Services TCS ) has been the undisputed crown jewel of the Tata Group. This IT company was equated with stability, consistent growth, and robust returns to investors. However, in the last one year, the technology giant has struggled, underperforming not only its immediate peers -- Infosys (12%), HCL Tech (24%), and Wipro (11%) -- but also fellow Tata Group stocks.TCS has declined 10% in the last one year period. The Nifty IT index is up over 15% in the same period. Among the Tata peers, TCS is placed behind most group companies. Only Tata Motors Tata Elxsi and Tata Technologies fared worse. The root of TCS's underperformance can be traced to a mix of external headwinds and internal challenges. At a macro level, the global technology sector has been grappling with uncertainty. The slowdown in the US and European markets, which are TCS's largest revenue contributors, has hit client spending.Inflation, high interest rates, and geopolitical tensions have also led to cautious IT spending by clients, particularly in discretionary and transformational projects.TCS has also struggled with client-specific issues. The much-touted Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) contract, which was a significant revenue contributor, is witnessing a ramp-down, negatively impacting the company's top line.Additionally, the company has reported slower deal conversions and delays in decision-making across multiple sectors, including retail, manufacturing, and healthcare, further dampening revenue growth.Sumit Pokharna, VP-Fundamental Research – IT at Kotak Securities, highlights that TCS's management has acknowledged challenges in client spending across retail, manufacturing, and insurance sectors. "IT services spending growth is likely to reduce below our base case assumption of 4-5% in FY26, with delays in project executions," he noted. While TCS has been facing growth headwinds, its peers have performed better. HCL Tech's focus on high-growth digital transformation and cloud services has paid off to an extent. Infosys has also managed to sustain strong deal wins, while Wipro's aggressive M&A strategy has enabled it to expand its client base.Abhishek Jain, Head of Research at Arihant Capital Markets said "TCS has been struggling to maintain growth momentum in comparison to its peers. Companies like HCL Tech have delivered industry-leading growth for consecutive quarters, which has led to stronger market confidence.TCS's financial performance has not been poor, but it has been far from stellar. In 4QFY25, the company reported dollar revenue growth of 1.4% year-on-year (YoY), but saw a 1% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) decline. Its constant currency (CC) revenue growth was 2.5% YoY, but the sequential decline of 0.6% underscored the challenges. The company's new deal wins stood at $12.2 billion, well above the guided range of $7-9 billion. Yet, this did not translate into immediate growth due to delays in client spending.Market analysts remain cautiously optimistic about TCS. Sumit Pokharna of Kotak Securities believes that while the company is relatively resilient, it is not immune to sectoral slowdowns. "TCS is more resilient to the slowdown, but not immune to it, in our view," he stated. Pritesh Thakkar of PL Capital pointed out that the BSNL deal ramp-down and client-specific slowdowns will continue to weigh on growth.Incred Equities has cut its target price for TCS, expecting a slower recovery in North America and the financial services segment. 'We expect a US$ revenue CAGR of 3% (vs. 4.5% earlier) and PAT CAGR of 7.5% for FY25-27,' it noted.Ashika Institutional maintained an "Add" rating but lowered the target price to Rs 3,652. "The valuation has become slightly reasonable, but growth certainty remains elusive," the brokerage stated. From a technical standpoint, TCS is currently trading above its 5, 10, 20, 30, and 50-day moving averages (DMAs) but remains below its 100 and 200-DMAs. Analysts said the Relative Strength Index (RSI) is at 67.4, indicating the stock is approaching overbought territory."TCS has formed a 'Bullish Hammer' pattern on the monthly chart and the prices have surpassed the high of the candle which indicates bottoming of the stock price and a trend reversal. Hence, we advise short term traders to buy TCS around Rs 3,630 for potential target around Rs 3,800," said Ruchit Jayantilal Jain, VP, Head – Equity Technical Research at Motilal Oswal.TCS is still a market leader with a diversified client base, and a solid balance sheet. The management's cautious optimism around generative AI (GenAI) and strong deal provide a silver lining. However, the near-term challenges of weak client spending, slower decision-making, and the BSNL ramp-down cannot be ignored.: Recommendations, suggestions, views and opinions given by the experts are their own. IREDA share price jumps over 2% after allotment of 50% equity to LIC in ₹2000 crore fundraise
Shares of the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) surged over 2% on Wednesday, following the announcement of the closure of its Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP) earlier that day. The firm successfully raised ₹ 2,000 crore through this process by issuing equity to qualified institutions. IREDA's board sanctioned the issuance of 12.14 crore equity shares of the company as part of this initiative. The issue price for the QIP was set at ₹ 155.14 per share, which reflects a 5% discount to the established floor price of the issue. Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), which is the largest insurance provider in India, has been allocated 50% of the total shares authorised for the QIP. Additionally, Societe Generale, Morgan Stanley, and Vikasa India EIF I Fund have each received more than 5% of the total shares available through the QIP. After the issuance of the QIP shares, the company's total paid-up equity share capital rose from ₹ 2,687 crore, comprising 268.77 crore shares, to ₹ 2,809 crore, which includes 280.92 crore shares. According to the shareholding pattern for the March quarter, LIC did not hold any stake in IREDA, or if it did, it would have been less than 1%, as its name is absent from the list of shareholders. IREDA share price today opened at ₹ 182.45 apiece on the BSE. The stock touched an intraday high of ₹ 183.50 apiece and an intraday low of ₹ 181.25 per share. Anshul Jain, Head of Research at Lakshmishree Investments, said that the IREDA share price is breaking out of a 6-week tight consolidation zone at ₹ 181. 'A sustained move above this level is expected to propel the stock towards the major weekly resistance of ₹ 205. While the breakout isn't backed by strong institutional volume, the price action is decisive and suggests bullish intent. Traders can consider fresh longs on a close above ₹ 181, with ₹ 205 as the immediate target. Pullbacks may offer a second entry opportunity,' Jain opined.

Big Leadership Changes At Tata Sons On The Cards: New Priorities To Push The Group
Last Updated: Tata Sons plans a board reshuffle, investing Rs 30,000 crore in emerging businesses. Ralf Speth and Ajay Piramal will depart, and Tata Steel CEO TV Narendran may join the board. Tata Sons is preparing for a significant reshuffle in its boardroom, signalling a generational shift and a renewed focus on growth priorities for the conglomerate. According to The Economic Times report, the company will be looking to appoint new directors as vacancies open up on the board of the Tata Group holding entity. Focusing on future growth, Tata Sons will pump Rs 30,000 crore ($3.5 billion) into emerging businesses like Tata Digital, Tata Electronics, Air India, defence, and battery operations. The defence sector is singled out as a key strategic focus. This investment adds to the $120 billion already earmarked for new initiatives in recent years, according to the ET report. Key Departures on the Horizon at Tata Group Ralf Speth, the former Jaguar Land Rover CEO who joined the board in 2016 in the aftermath of Cyrus Mistry's ouster, is expected to step down in the coming months upon reaching the retirement age of 70. Earlier in April, independent director Leo Puri also stepped down from the board. Another exit is anticipated next year, with veteran industrialist Ajay Piramal, 69, expected to retire mid-2025, in line with the company's board-level age cap of 70. T V Narendran Likely to Join Board Tata Steel CEO and MD TV Narendran is seen as a strong internal contender to fill one of the vacant seats, according to the ET report. 'There are very few senior Tata executives today with the depth of Narendran's experience and leadership," said a senior group executive, as per the report. If appointed, Narendran's elevation would mark a shift toward bringing proven business heads into Tata Sons' core decision-making body. These upcoming board changes mark a gradual evolution from the structure instituted by former chairman Ratan Tata after Cyrus Mistry's dramatic exit. While several earlier appointees are moving on due to age limits, others like Harish Bhat and Banmali Agrawala continue in advisory or leadership roles within specific group businesses. Notably, the retirement rule does not apply to nominees from Tata Trusts. These include Noel Tata, Vijay Singh (76), and Venu Srinivasan (72), who continue to retain their seats. Independent directors Harish Manwani and Anita M. George remain on the board, with Manwani set to continue till 2027. Move to Maintain Private Holding In a related development, Tata Sons has voluntarily applied to surrender its NBFC licence with the RBI after repaying over Rs 20,000 crore in debt. The move is aimed at retaining its structure as a privately held, unlisted entity — a strategic decision aligned with long-term governance and control considerations.
