Comedian suing over DEI after allegedly being cut from roles reveals the ‘real' problem with Hollywood

Yahoo08-02-2025

One comedian is exposing Hollywood's casting culture with a lawsuit after being allegedly cut from acting roles over D.E.I. policies.
Comedian Tyler Fischer, a frequent guest on "Gutfeld!" and host of the new Fox Nation special, "No Pardon Needed," pulled the curtain back on the acting industry during an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, detailing what he says some experts call the "clearest discrimination case" they have ever seen."I was doing TV shows and acting and my career was growing in Hollywood. But these DEI policies, I was told explicitly, we have too many white guys," Fischer said. "Or you booked the job, but they said they need someone who's not a straight white guy. And that was happening for ten years until the last time it happened."Department Of Veterans Affairs Places 60 Dei Employees On Leave With Salaries Totaling More Than $8M
Fischer revealed that he recorded a closed-door conversation where a manager from AGI Entertainment Media & Management, a Manhattan outfit that reps comedians Samantha Bee and Colin Quinn, television host Julie Chen and journalist Natalie Morales, told him that it is "company policy" to avoid hiring "straight white guys." It was a conversation that would turn into evidence in his ongoing lawsuit. "I recorded the call and filed a lawsuit with the Supreme Court three years ago. So, I've been fighting this stuff for ten years," he said.
"People would just go, 'Sit down, shut up. You look like Macaulay Culkin and David Spade. You're going to be fine.' But it's real. And that's another reason why people are turning to alternative media sources."

Fischer explained that he filed his lawsuit against the talent agency about three years ago and the case remains in the discovery phase.

"It's in the early phases. Whether or not we go to trial, I don't know. But it's on tape. And I've been told by certain people it's the clearest discrimination case they've ever seen because it is recorded," he revealed. Joe Rogan Calls Out Liberals For Insisting Musk Used Nazi Salute: 'Bulls--- Game'Despite the challenges faced in his early career, Fischer is currently touring throughout the U.S., and has additionally released a comedy special called "No Pardon Needed," which is available exclusively to Fox Nation subscribers.
The program was filmed at famed podcast host Joe Rogan's new club, The Comedy Mothership in Austin, TX on Jan. 20 — the same day President Donald Trump returned to the White House for his second term. The Inauguration-inspired, 45-minute special is a satirical look at the current state of politics and culture, with Fischer blending his razor-sharp political commentary with impersonations of President-elect Trump, President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Elon Musk and others in Trump's cabinet. Fischer is well known for his unapologetic performances, having gained popularity for his impressions of political leaders and commentators; on YouTube, a skit of him mimicking the voice of Daily Wire commentator Jordan Peterson has over one million views.
Along with making his own comedic videos on political and social issues on social media platforms, Fischer is currently touring the United States doing more stand-up routines. He has also appeared on some of the biggest podcasts and talk shows in the world, including "The Joe Rogan Experience," "Last Week Tonight With John Oliver" and "Kill Tony." The rising star also acted in the film, "Terror on the Prairie" and voiced a character in the animated show, "Mr. Birchum."

Review: Jess Walter's 'So Far Gone' sets a redemption story in fractured, modern America

When the history of the United States in 2025 is written, perhaps one of the best things that will be said is: 'Well, it made for some great art.' Consider 'So Far Gone,' the new novel by Jess Walter. Set in present day America, it opens with two kids wearing backpacks knocking on a cabin door. 'What are you fine young capitalists selling?' asks Rhys Kinnick, before realizing the kids are his grandchildren. They carry with them a note from Kinnick's daughter, describing dad as a 'recluse who cut off contact with our family and now lives in squalor in a cabin north of Spokane.' More Information So Far Gone By Jess Walter (Harper; 272 pages; $30) Jess Walter in conversation with Tom Barbash: 6 p.m. June 24. Free. Book Passage, 51 Tamal Vista Blvd., Corte Madera. 415-927-0960. Jess Walter discusses 'So Far Gone': 7 p.m. June 25. Free. Lafayette Library, 3491 Mount Diablo Blvd., Lafayette. 925-283-6513. It's a great hook that draws you in and doesn't really let up for the next 256 pages. We learn why Kinnick pulled a Thoreau and went to the woods seven years ago (Hint: It has a lot to do with the intolerance exhibited by no small percentage of Americans and embodied by a certain occupant of the White House), as well as the whereabouts of Kinnick's daughter, Bethany, and why her messy marriage to a guy named Shane led to Kinnick's grandchildren being dropped off at his cabin. In a neat narrative gimmick, the chapters are entitled 'What Happened to ___' and fill in the main strokes of each character's backstory, as well as what happens to them in the present timeline. Told with an omniscient third-person sense of humor, the book's themes are nonetheless serious. On the demise of journalism in the chapter 'What Happened to Lucy,' one of Kinnick's old flames and colleagues at the Spokesman-Review: She 'hated that reporters were expected to constantly post on social media… before knowing what their stories even meant.' Or Kinnick's thoughts as he holds a .22 Glock given to him just in case by a retired police officer who is helping him get his grandkids back from the local militia: 'The shiver that went through his arm! The power!… The weight of this gun was the exact weight of his anger and his fear and his sense of displacement… That's where its incredible balance lay.' As Kinnick links up with various characters and drives across the Northwest in search of his daughter and grandchildren, the plot unfolds quickly. Most readers won't need more than a day or two to reach the final page, which satisfies the Thoreau quote Walter uses in the story's preface: 'Not till we are lost… 'till we have lost the world, do we begin to find ourselves.'
