Priya Sachdev called husband Sunjay Kapur ‘misunderstood'; said he took ‘hard decisions' after divorce with Karisma Kapoor: ‘He has been through so much'
Karisma Kapoor's ex-husband Sunjay Kapur's death while playing polo in London, United Kingdom, shocked many. The businessman was 53 years old. After parting ways with Karisma, Sunjay went on to marry Priya Sachdev, a socialite and model from Delhi. Now, an old interview of Priya has been doing the rounds, where she spoke about Sunjay and how he had to take many hard decisions after the death of his father and his divorce from Karisma.
Talking about their relationship, she said on the YouTube channel Kin and Kindness, 'When we got together in 2015, he lost his father and suddenly a lot of responsibility fell on his shoulder and he was left alone with business, which was in Germany at the time.'
Priya shared that Sunjay would discuss business with her and would bounce off ideas, so she is 'very much in the know.' She said, 'I do help him run the family office though and I have taken lot of investment decisions with him.'
Priya opened up on Sunjay's journey and how he faced the pressure of taking over their family business after the death of his father – Surinder Kapur, who was a pioneer in India's auto components industry. She said, 'Sunjay's journey has been interesting as a father himself and then he lost his father, and he had to take over the business and turn it around, and he was going through a divorce at the same time. He has been through so much and we were together in it and now we have come out of it. He has become a very successful businessman.'
Talking about what attracted her to Sunjay, she said, 'I found him very endearing, honest and misunderstood.' She added, 'He has been misunderstood but now he is very much respected in industry. His father was a legend in his space, and now he is filling his shoes, which makes us all very proud. He's also had to make harsh decisions and choices, and most of them have turned out well.'
Talking about Sunjay's obsession with polo, Priya revealed that she and their kids move to England for some time during the year when Sunjay plays polo in the UK. She said, 'He is still passionate about Polo. We move with him to England every year during the Polo session where he plays professional Polo.'
Karisma and Sunjay were married for 13 years before they parted ways in 2016. They had two kids — daughter Samaira and son Kiaan. Sunjay and Priya tied the knot in 2017. They have a son, Azarias, who was born in December 2018. Priya also has a daughter from her previous marriage.
