Company director slapped with another charge of failing to report bribery
Ispandi Othman pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him before Shah Alam sessions court judge Nasir Nordin today.
SHAH ALAM : A company director at a consultancy firm has claimed trial at the sessions court here to another charge of failing to report bribery.
Last week, Ispandi Othman was slapped with 10 charges at the Kuala Lumpur sessions court for failing to report that the managing director of another company had offered him a total of RM100,000.
The money was meant to induce Ispandi to assist in speeding up claims filed by the other company's managing director to the Social Security Organisation.
Today, Ispandi was slapped with a new charge under Section 25(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 for allegedly failing to report an offer of RM10,000 from the same managing director.
The offence was said to have taken place at premises on Jalan SG 3/19, Taman Sri Gombak, Batu Caves, on Oct 28, 2021.
Ispandi pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him before judge Nasir Nordin.
The judge allowed deputy public prosecutor Selvam T Armugom's request to transfer the case to the Kuala Lumpur sessions court to be heard with the 10 previous charges.
The judge also fixed July 4 for case mention.
Lawyer Nor Azam Rashid Zainol Rashid represented Ispandi.

MACC deploys tactical squad to probe 'Tan Sri' in sukuk misappropriation case
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today enlisted the assistance of the Anti-Corruption Tactical Squad (Acts) to record the statement of a 'Tan Sri' in connection with the investigation into the misappropriation of highway construction sukuk funds. This move followed the MACC's suspicion of a secret room at the individual's residence in Bandar Tasik Selatan, Cheras, believed to contain weapons and valuable assets related to the case. Sources said Acts personnel, along with two investigating officers, were deployed to search specific rooms suspected of storing assets linked to the misappropriated funds. It is understood that a team of Acts members arrived at the Tan Sri's home in four vehicles earlier this morning. A white Toyota Vios carrying MACC officers was seen entering the compound at 8.45am. It is also learnt that one of the entrances to the businessman's residence was sealed off by auxiliary police from a private security company. Traffic cones and barriers were placed at the entrance to the premises, while auxiliary police were seen preventing media personnel from approaching the location. Separately, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki told Buletin Utama that the deployment of Acts was necessary for specific reasons. "There are particular grounds for involving the team, chiefly to ensure the security of any items or exhibits that may be recovered. "So I cannot provide further details at this time, as I have yet to receive a full briefing on what was discovered during the raid on the Tan Sri's home," he told TV3 when contacted. Meanwhile, Azam confirmed that the process of recording the Tan Sri's statement is ongoing as part of the investigation. "So far, we have recorded statements from approximately 53 witnesses in this case. Many more will be called in to have their statements taken," he said. He was speaking at a press conference after the 2nd Convocation Ceremony of the Certified Law Enforcement Programme 2025, organised by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy (Maca) today.

Nearly 160,000 harmful online content removed this year, says Fahmi
Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil said 57% of the removed content was from Facebook, 28% TikTok, and 13% YouTube. PETALING JAYA : Social media platforms Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube have removed 159,518 pieces of harmful content related to online gambling, scams, cyberbullying, and fake news as of yesterday, says communications minister Fahmi Fadzil. These removals were part of 174,473 takedown requests made so far this year, Bernama reported him as saying. 'About 51% of the content involved online gambling, 25% were related to scams, 12% cyberbullying, and 9% fake news,' Fahmi said at the ministry's monthly assembly. He said 57% of the removed content was from Facebook, 28% TikTok, and 13% YouTube. These three platforms account for nearly 95% of the problematic content identified. Fahmi also raised concerns about the continued presence of child exploitation content online, especially on Facebook. 'This raises questions about whether current laws and cooperation are enough, or if we need a more strategic approach,' he said, citing last year's joint operation, known as Op Pedo, between the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). On efforts to regulate social media, Fahmi noted that a new licensing framework introduced earlier this year aimed to make digital platforms safer, especially for children. He also highlighted the Online Safety Act (OnSA) 2024, passed in Parliament last December and set to be enforced soon. The Act gives MCMC the authority to act against platforms that fail to meet safety requirements. The OnSA has received royal assent from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim and is currently being prepared for enforcement.

Influencer Mekyun lodges report over indecent child-related content

(Instagram pic) PETALING JAYA : Influencer Wee Yun Nee, popularly known as Mekyun, has filed a police report after discovering a Facebook group which posted, among others, pictures of her younger self. In a social media post, Wee said she lodged the report at Bukit Aman. She was accompanied by her lawyer and brother, Jason. 'Do not remain silent if this happens to you', she said and urged children to not be afraid to inform their parents if they are similarly harassed. On Wednesday, Malaysiakini reported that Wee took to social media to raise awareness about Facebook groups promoting child-related indecent content. She said she became aware of such groups after numerous followers had alerted her that an image of her in a 'baju kurung' school uniform when she was younger was being circulated. Wee urged the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to investigate the matter. Earlier today, Wanita PKR had called for swift action to be taken against those who perpetrated sexual crimes against minors after the discovery of a Facebook group which shared photos of underage schoolchildren. The party wing demanded that the police, MCMC and women, family and community development ministry take immediate and serious action on the matter. The 'Group Budak2 Sekolah Rendah' page, now inaccessible, had over 12,000 members and many explicitly sexual comments and captions on its photos. The images included underage students wearing primary and secondary school uniforms, traditional wear, sports attire, and casual clothing. The issue came to light after rapper Ariz Ramli, better known as Caprice, was notified of the group's existence via an Instagram message. The group was then reported to MCMC as well as the police.
