Teen shot in Binghamton while driving, in stable condition
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – An 18-year-old is reportedly in stable condition after being shot while driving and subsequently involved in a car crash Sunday, Binghamton Police announced Monday.
On April 20, just before 9 p.m., BPD responded to the intersection of Dewey Avenue and Overland Drive for reported shots fired. Officers say a car crashed at the intersection of Dewey Avenue and Felters Road. A bit later, officers responded to a call for a male suffering from gunshot wounds.
Officers located the 18-year-old who was shot in the arm. The ensuing investigation ultimately determined the teen was driving the car that was shot at on Dewey Avenue. They say the shooting caused the car accident.
The teen was taken to a local hospital and is reportedly in stable condition.
Officers at the scene of the shooting located 13 9-millimeter shell casings around Building 1 at 60 Saratoga Avenue. Officers also found a Derya Arms 9mm handgun and a 30-round extended magazine at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the BPD Detective Bureau at 607-772-7080.
