5 must-try iOS 26 features for your iPhone — and how to use them
iOS 26 brings several standout features that can significantly improve your iPhone experience. This major update introduces new customization options, smarter automation, and enhanced AI capabilities that adapt to how you use your device. From visual upgrades that change the look of your homescreen to AI improvements that make your iPhone genuinely more helpful, this update feels like a meaningful step forward rather than just another incremental change. Whether you're someone who loves tweaking every detail of your setup or you just want your phone to work better without extra effort, these five features hit the sweet spot. Liquid Glass icons are probably the most visually striking change in iOS 26. Instead of the solid app icons you're used to, this feature makes them semi-transparent so your wallpaper shows through. To enable Liquid Glass icons, long-press anywhere on your homescreen until the edit options appear. Tap the Edit button in the top-left corner, then select Customize from the menu that appears. At the bottom of your screen, you'll see options for Light, Dark, Tinted, and Clear. Tap Clear to access the Liquid Glass settings, then choose between Clear Light, Clear Dark, or Clear Auto depending on whether you want full transparency or prefer to keep some original colors. Instead of being interrupted by every unknown number that calls, call screening intercepts these calls first and asks the caller to identify themselves. Only then will you get notified and can decide whether to take the call or send it straight to voicemail. Setting up call screening is straightforward. Open the Settings app, scroll down and tap Apps, then select Phone from the list. Look for the Screen Incoming Calls section and slide the toggle to turn it on. Once enabled, any call from an unknown number will be automatically screened before your phone rings. When someone identifies themselves, a notification will appear, displaying their name, number, and a brief transcript of their message. From there, you can tap the green button to answer or the red button to send them to voicemail. Sometimes the smallest updates end up being the most fun to use. iOS 26 lets you personalize individual conversations with custom images or Apple's curated collections. It's not momentous, but it makes your chats feel more distinctive and personal. To add a background, open any message conversation and tap on the header at the top — that's the area with the person's photo or group icon. You'll see Backgrounds appear in a scroll bar near the top of your screen. Apple provides curated collections organized by themes like Color, Sky, Water, and Aurora, but you can also use your own photos. It's a simple way to give each conversation its own personality, whether that's adding a vacation photo to a family group chat or picking something that matches the vibe of your friend group. Visual Intelligence now works with screenshots, not just live camera views. This means you can capture anything on your iPhone screen and instantly search for more information, add events to your calendar, or find similar images. Taking advantage of this feature is as simple as taking a regular screenshot. Press the power button and volume up button simultaneously to capture whatever's on your screen. When the screenshot preview appears, you'll see the usual options to save, share, or markup your image. You'll also notice new Visual Intelligence commands at the bottom: Ask, Add to Calendar, and Image Search. Ask uses ChatGPT to provide information about what's in your screenshot, Add to Calendar can create events from detected text, and Image Search helps you find similar images or products online. Spatial Scenes gives your photos a subtle 3D effect on your lock screen. It identifies which of your photos would work well with this depth effect and converts them into immersive wallpapers. It's a nice way to make your favorite photos feel more dynamic. To set up a Spatial Scene, press and hold on your lock screen, then tap the plus button at the bottom to create a new customized lock screen. Scroll down through the featured wallpapers until you find Spatial Scenes. You'll find a selection of photos that Apple has identified as good candidates for the 3D conversion. Once you select a photo, the conversion happens automatically. You can then pinch and zoom to crop the image and decide whether to extend the wallpaper or turn off the depth effect. Why Morgan Stanley Increased Its Apple (AAPL) iPhone Production Estimate
Investment firm Morgan Stanley (MS) recently increased its estimate for Apple's (AAPL) iPhone production in the September quarter by 8%. Indeed, it is now forecasting 54 million units instead of 50 million for the tech giant. This change is due to stronger-than-expected iPhone sales in the June quarter, which brought inventory levels below normal and opened up more room for restocking. Analysts led by Erik Woodring highlighted that the increased production is focused entirely on the upcoming iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro Max, with each contributing an extra 2 million units. Elevate Your Investing Strategy: Take advantage of TipRanks Premium at 50% off! Unlock powerful investing tools, advanced data, and expert analyst insights to help you invest with confidence. Interestingly, the team at Morgan Stanley is becoming more optimistic about Apple overall. In fact, it believes that many of the same positive trends from last year are still in place, such as longer iPhone upgrade cycles, strong demand buildup, and new product designs in the pipeline. It also notes that the peak risks from tariffs have likely passed. Additionally, Apple hasn't raised prices for its Services segment in two years, which is something the analysts view as an underused strategy that could drive future growth. As a result, they believe that earnings estimates are likely to trend higher, which historically has led to rallies for Apple stock. Looking further ahead, the analysts kept their iPhone 17 production forecast unchanged at 80 to 85 million units for the second half of Calendar Year 2025. This range is slightly below or roughly in line with the 84 million new-model iPhones produced in the second half of 2024. They also noted that iPhone production in the December quarter tends to be more volatile than in the September quarter. Indeed, excluding the COVID years (2020 and 2021), December builds have fluctuated from 35% to 71% higher than the previous quarter. Is Apple a Buy or Sell Right Now? Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Moderate Buy consensus rating on AAPL stock based on 16 Buys, 11 Holds, and one Sell assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. Furthermore, the average AAPL price target of $239.18 per share implies 3.5% upside potential.

Reddit says this is the best laptop — here's what I think as a laptop reviewer
I recently wrote an article about the gaming laptops Reddit recommends, and found the experience enlightening as a laptop reviewer of 5+ years. To that end, I've now searched Reddit for the best laptops its users recommend for everyday work. As with their recommendations for the best gaming laptops, Redditors are very knowledgeable on this subject and generally deliver solid advice. I mostly referenced this post since it was the first Reddit link that popped up on Google when I searched for 'best laptop.' That said, I also checked out a couple of similar posts to get a general idea of what Redditors think. The community has an affinity for Lenovo laptops, particularly ThinkBooks and ThinkPads. The MacBook Air also gets a lot of love, which doesn't surprise me since it's one of the best MacBooks. Here are some of the top laptops that Reddit recommends, and what I think of these recommendations as a professional laptop reviewer. MacBooks come up many times in the post linked above. Specifically, Redditors recommended the 13-inch MacBook Air M4 for its strong performance and long battery life. Surprisingly, no one mentioned its portability, which is one of the main reasons to get Apple's 'Air' laptop. Regardless, I agree with Reddit on this one. The MacBook Air is not only a great laptop to travel with, but as I recently wrote, it also makes for a fine desktop replacement. While folks recommended the MacBook Air, two concerns popped up. The first is the Apple ecosystem. 'Some people recommend the MacBook M4 Air, which seems to be a really good machine, although I am slightly concerned by the fact that I don't own any other Apple products,' said user LenkkiNakki. However, user T1nyRaccoon responded by saying you 'don't need other stuff in the Apple ecosystem to have [a MacBook Air], but if you plan on sending stuff to and from your phone or want to send messages from your laptop, an iPhone would be useful.' The 13-inch MacBook Air M4 offers the same design as the previous model but delivers better performance and a sharper camera while also delivering long battery life. We wish Apple had included a nano-texture display option to reduce glare and that the SSD were a bit faster, but the $200 price cut makes this configuration hard to pass up. In this post, some users discussed their dislike of what they call the 'Apple Tax,' or how expensive MacBooks can get when you want to configure them with more RAM or storage. T1nyRaccoon also shares this sentiment, saying that the 'downside is [Apple] has abysmal storage/RAM base configurations and costs a ton to upgrade.' They correctly say that it would cost you an extra $200 if you want a MacBook Air with 512GB of storage (entry-level has 256GB). Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. I won't argue with these folks about how expensive MacBooks can be. That said, new MacBooks are frequently on sale at Amazon. For instance, you can currently buy a 13-inch MacBook Air M4 with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage for $999, which is a $200 savings. If I were shopping for a new MacBook, I'd go through Amazon instead of Apple's online store. As I mentioned in the intro, many Redditors like Lenovo laptops. This also doesn't surprise me since laptops like ThinkBooks are pretty ubiquitous for office workers. ThinkPads, which is another line of business-focused Lenovo laptops, also came up in conversations. Generally, ThinkBooks are popular for those who work at home or who operate a small business, while ThinkPads are better for those who frequently travel for work. Though ThinkPads and ThinkBooks received a lot of praise, some users said to stay away from Lenovo laptops. 'Lenovo [equals] poor quality, cheap parts, shady, misleading models,' said user s1gnt. They also said that ThinkPads are not 'iconic device(s)' and are 'pure hype and dated.' Ouch! A user named Opti_span said they used a Lenovo laptop for three years and that it 'basically fell apart.' They didn't specify which Lenovo laptop, however. The one Lenovo laptop people recommended was the ThinkPad X1 Carbon. We reviewed the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition and awarded it 3.5 out of 5 stars. Though not a terrible machine, we feel that its underwhelming performance doesn't justify its high $1,870 starting price. Another Windows laptop that Reddit recommends is the latest model of the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14. While this is a gaming laptop, it doesn't look like one, which makes it great if you're working in an office. Of all the Windows laptops I saw in the Reddit threads I read, this is the machine I would recommend. I called last year's Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 the MacBook of gaming laptops thanks to its elegant design and killer performance. That laptop is currently on sale for $1,439 at Best Buy, and is a solid choice even if it doesn't have the latest GPU. If you want the latest model, there's a configuration with an RTX 5070 that's on sale at Best Buy for $1,799, which is $350 off. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024) delivers the goods thanks to its thin design, powerful performance, gorgeous OLED display and excellent typing experience. Though there's a newer model available, this Windows laptop is still perfect for everyday work and for gaming. I'm once again impressed by Reddit's laptop choices. The 13-inch MacBook Air M4 might seem like an obvious one, but there's a reason it's at the top of our best MacBook and best laptops buying guides. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14/16 is another fantastic option for folks who want a Windows laptop with enough power for work and play. If you're in the market for a new notebook, check those out!
