Infamous gangster Salman Tyagi, facing charges under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), was found dead inside his cell in Delhi's Mandoli Jail on Saturday, the police said.
Tyagi was discovered hanging from a noose made with a bedsheet in Jail No. 15 on Saturday morning, when prison staff found his body.
The police said he had multiple criminal cases against him, including murder and extortion, and was booked under MCOCA. Sources said he was previously associated with the Neeraj Bawana gang but had recently switched allegiance to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
To prove his loyalty, he allegedly orchestrated an extortion attempt on two Delhi businessmen, following which the Crime Branch arrested two shooters, Deepanshu and Moinuddin.
Police are now investigating whether Tyagi's death was a case of suicide or if foul play was involved.

Drug trafficker booked under MCOCA for the first time in Maharashtra

MUMBAI: A man from Malad was booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) on Tuesday after allegedly being caught with 766 grams of Mephedrone earlier this month. This is the first such case in Maharashtra where the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) has applied the newly amended Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in a narcotics case. Drug trafficker booked under MCOCA for the first time in Maharashtra In July, the Maharashtra government, during its monsoon session, amended MCOCA to bring drug peddlers under its purview as part of its zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking. According to the police, the incident occurred on August 7, when the accused Adnan Shaikh, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, was caught with 766 grams of Mephedrone in Bandra. Subsequently, he was booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) and arrested. On Tuesday, the ANC applied charges under MCOCA against him. 'A proposal was sent to senior Mumbai Police officials for the application of the amended MCOCA against the accused, which was approved on Tuesday. Following this, we have applied section 3 (punishment for organized crime) of The Maharashtra Control Of Organised Crime Act against him,' the officer said. During interrogation, Shaikh said that he was working for his aunt, Kayanat Shaikh, a drug peddler, who in turn bought drugs from a person named Jamir Ahmed Ansari alias Jamir Boka, the officer said. Boka and Kayanat are still wanted in the case, he added.

E-rickshaw driver held for road stunts to gain social media followers

1 2 Jaipur: City police Wednesday arrested a 22-year-old e-rickshaw driver who turned the city's streets into his stage for dangerous stunts to increase followers on social media. The accused, identified as Fardeen Qureshi, was reportedly taunting the police on social media. The accused was caught in Vidhyadhar Nagar after the city's Crime Branch launched a coordinated operation with local police. A resident of Bhatta Basti, the accused built a following online by posting videos of himself performing reckless manoeuvres with his e-rickshaw. The case, registered under sections of BNS along with sections of Motor Vehicles Act, highlights the growing trend of social media notoriety at the cost of public safety. Officers said the stunts not only endangered commuters but also encouraged impressionable youths to imitate such behaviour. MCOCA invoked against 3 in drugs case, first such case after amendment to Act

The Mumbai police invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against three persons allegedly involved in supplying mephedrone on Tuesday— the first such case in the state after the stringent Act was amended to bring drug peddling under the purview of organised crime. The Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Mumbai police seized 766 grams of mephedrone in a case registered on August 7 under sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. The main accused, Jamir Ahmed Ansari alias Boka, and his two other accomplices, Kayanat Shaikh and Adnan Shaikh, had formed a gang that supplied narcotics, police said. While Jamir Ahmed was arrested on August 7, the two others are still at large In order to take concrete action against him, the police decided to invoke new amended sections of the MCOCA following which a proposal was put up before senior officers as per procedures laid down for the application of the MCOCA. After the permission was granted, the three accused were booked under sections 3(1)(ii), 3(2) and 3(4) of the MCOCA. 'This action is the first action in Maharashtra against a drug trafficking gang under the amended MCOCA,' an official said. During the Monsoon Session of the Maharashtra Assembly in July when the Act was amended, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had said that he had directed the police to take strict action against drug networks with growing cases of mephedrone production coming to the fore. Under MCOCA it is difficult to get bail for offenders thereby keeping them under custody of for a few years.
