Steelers' First Post After Signing Aaron Rodgers Turns Heads

Steelers' First Post After Signing Aaron Rodgers Turns Heads originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After weeks that seemed like years, there's finally a resolution to the Pittsburgh Steelers-Aaron Rodgers saga. Advertisement The two sides had been playing an intense game of cat-and-mouse since Rodgers was officially released by the New York Jets back on March 13, and after Rodgers reportedly was rejected by the Minnesota Vikings, the Steelers emerged as the frontrunner to sign the four-time MVP. With Rodgers still unsigned back in April, some believed the Steelers were considering taking Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL draft. Sanders slipped to the fifth round before being snatched up by the Cleveland Browns, and the Steelers grabbed Ohio State QB Will Howard one round later. New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers exits the field at MetLife Boland-Imagn Images With Howard clearly being drafted as a development project, it looked like Mason Rudolph was on track to start training camp as Pittsburgh's QB1 until the news everyone had been waiting for broke on Thursday and Rodgers was officially heading to Pittsburgh. Advertisement Hours after Gary Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette broke the news that Rodgers informed the team he was signing with them, the Steelers posted for the first time on X after the Rodgers news broke official confirming his signing. 'We have agreed to terms with QB Aaron Rodgers on a one-year contract, pending the completion of a physical,' the team posted on X. The official announcement caused quite a stir among the team's fan base, and while some were excited about Rodgers' signing, many others flooded the comment section, expressing their unhappiness with Pittsburgh's new starting QB. 'This feels cheap and desperate. This is not a Pittsburgh Steeler,' one fan scoffed. Advertisement 'Congrats. You just signed the THIRD best QB in the division 🤣🤣,' another fan quipped. 'LMAO yall be doing anything but getting a real QB,' a third fan joked. 'Bro he is NOT saving yall 😭😭😭,' one user stated. 'Steelers really fumbling the bag this offseason lmao,' another replied. 'Just what the team needs, a locker room distraction at QB,' remarked one fan. In his lone season with the Jets (he didn't play in 2022 due to a torn Achilles in the season opener), Rodgers completed 63% of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, and New York went just 5-12. Dan Marino Issues Blunt Warning to Steelers About Aaron Rodgers

Dan Marino Issues Blunt Warning to Steelers About Aaron Rodgers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After months of fans begging free-agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers to make a decision, he finally obliged. Advertisement On Thursday, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced they had reached a one-year deal with the four-time MVP just ahead of the team's mandatory minicamp, ending the near 10 weeks of speculation about whether or not Rodgers would play in 2025 or retire. Many have weighed in on the Steelers' situation in the 24 hours since the Rodgers news became official, but one former player's opinion that stuck out above the others is that of legendary Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino. During a recent radio interview with 93.7 The Fan, the nine-time Pro Bowler admitted that while he still believes in Rodgers to play at a high level, he has some serious questions about where Rodgers' head is it, and he sent a subtle message to the Steelers to essentially proceed with caution. Legendary Miami Dolphins QB Dan MarinoJasen Vinlove-Imagn Images 'I still think Aaron has some game,' Marino disclosed. 'He does. He can throw it as good as anybody that has ever thrown the football. If his mind's into it and he's ready to go and that works. I don't think it would be an issue with the Steelers. Advertisement 'But you got to have someone that really wants to play there. And he's getting older. So I don't know what his mindset is. But he does still have talent.' There is some good news for the Steelers and their fans should the Rodgers' signing not pan out. Former New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers.© Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Pittsburgh is financially investing very little in the 41-year-old QB. 'Aaron Rodgers said on the 'Pat McAfee Show' he'd play for $10 million, and that's where the base salary is expected to be with some incentives to get a little higher,' Rapoport stated on Friday. 'It is not going to be a big-money deal.' If Rodgers struggles or things go sideways between he and the Steelers, the team can turn to Mason Rudolph, who has an 8-4-1 record as the Steelers' starter in his previous four seasons with the team. Super Bowl-Winning Coach Gets Name Dropped in New Lil Wayne Song

Super Bowl-Winning Coach Gets Name Dropped in New Lil Wayne Song originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Music fans likely all rushed to their devices on Friday, as Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Wayne released what was the sixth of "Tha Carter" series. His 19-track album titled "Tha Carter VI" features from notable artists such as BigXthaPlug, MGK, Kodak Black and 2 Chainz among many others. The New Orleans rapper who many felt was snubbed from performing at this past year's Super Bowl LIX between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs in the Big Easy has always been known for being a lyrical genius. While he's a New Orleans native and a well-known Green Bay Packers fan, Wheezy shouted-out Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay in one of his new songs, "Welcome to Tha Carter." Shortly after name-dropping former NBA star Metta Sandiford-Artest formerly known as Metta World Peace and Ron Artest, Wayne threw in McVay's name while alluding to one of his (Wayne's) personal favorite hobbies. "Smokin' that bomb L.A. like I'm McVay," said Wayne. Aside from being a music icon, Wayne is a huge sports junkie. He has made appearances on ESPN's "First Take," Fox's "Undisputed," and even won an episode of the iconic ESPN show "Around the Horn." As for McVay and the Rams, they came up a couple of plays short of playing in the Super Bowl this past season, and are hoping that with a new addition like All-Pro receiver Davante Adams, they can rectify their shortcomings in 2025. While McVay is likely appreciative of the bar from Wayne, he is also presumably focused on the team's upcoming minicamp in Maui. The Rams open up preseason play on August 9 against the Dallas story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 6, 2025, where it first appeared.
