Out of all the franchises that might enter the stealth action genre, Chicken Run is not one I would've put all that highly on my list, but when it comes to Aardman Studios, you can't fault their ambition, as I learned when I got to look around Aardman's headquarters in Bristol, UK and try out the game.
The story directly follows on from 2023's Chicken Run sequel, with our heroes freeing chickens from all over the world, and it meets the humour of the films perfectly, thanks to the writing team being made mostly of the same people. Aardman isn't doing this by half-measures either, as they made real models of the original characters introduced in this game, just as they would when making a film. It allowed the animation team to get a clear hands-on look at how these characters should move in Aardman's stop-motion style, so none of that charm is lost when translated into a video game.

The same goes for the gameplay it's devised, which is split into two distinct phases. First, you must infiltrate the location to find the chickens, which is where the slower-paced stealth side of the game lives. You play from a top-down perspective, distracting enemies, avoiding traps, setting up traps of your own, and ideally clearing the way for your exfiltration once you reach your goal.
The stealth gameplay isn't exactly on the level of Metal Gear Solid, but it hits a very light-hearted tone that matches the IP it's working with. This is a game about stop-motion chickens, not tactical espionage action. It may suffer a little bit from being too easy, but I got enough entertainment out of the slapstick way enemies would blunder into my traps that I don't care. It's hard to be mad when an evil Girl Scout charges at me, only to be flung across the map thanks to my hidden trampoline.
That's where most of this game's appeal lies, as it is dripping in that classic Aardman charm that makes their films and shows such a blast, as you create frantic action sequences that feel like they're right out of their films, and that is never more clear than in the second phase of gameplay, exfiltration.

Here, stealth is still technically an option, but it's far more likely that all hell will break loose as you corral your horde of chickens to the level's exit. Once you set them free, they will automatically follow a path to the exit, which you must then clear of obstacles, enemies, and traps, or find a way to route them along another path altogether. This is where the game becomes far more chaotic and fun, as you have to work quickly to deal with the imminent doom the horde is marching towards, like they were Lemmings but somehow less observant.
Of course, you can just spend more time in the infiltration stage planning ahead and setting up your exit strategy, but not only is that less fun, the game actively discourages it, as your rating at the end of the level is partly based on speed and doing everything the sensible way is of course much slower. It's a simple bit of design, but it's a great idea that pushes you towards chaos, which is where the game shines the brightest.
Chicken Run: Eggstraction is set for release on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch in October 2025.

Mom Unboxes Dress Bought Online—No One Was Ready for the Reality Check

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A woman has gone viral for making a "classic" mistake while online shopping, and sharing it online so others could have "a giggle at my expense." Bec, 41, lives in Perth, Australia, and was recently on the hunt for a suitable outfit to a friend's outdoor wedding with a formal dress code. Relaxing at home one night, with a "wine or two," she searched online for "affordable evening dresses" and came across the website Ammethy. Newsweek has contacted Ammethy multiple times via email for comment on this story. As she told Newsweek: "This is where common sense would have had me googling the website's reviews, but it had abandoned me that night—probably around the time the wine got opened." Bec, who gave her first name only, ordered three dresses, including a blue midi gown for just over AU$50 ($32.65), and a few weeks later, the blue dress was delivered. "As soon as I saw the parcel, without even opening it, I knew," she said. "It was very thin and flimsy. I was on my way out with one of the kids when it arrived, so we opened the parcel in the car and just started laughing! It was so, so bad!" Determined to make the most of it, Bec also "gathered the rest of the family" and presented her new dress to them—and "they laughed for a solid 10 minutes, especially after I tried it on. "After having a good laugh at the whole situation with friends and family, I thought the internet could do with a giggle at my expense too, so I posted on Reddit." The dress as advertised on the website Bec bought it from. The dress as advertised on the website Bec bought it from. On August 10, Bec posted to r/ExpectationsVsReality via her account u/chemicalmum, sharing "what I ordered vs what I got," and began by showing the advert of the dress: a gorgeous silk midi gown with a silver fastening, appearing to be the perfect choice for a formal wedding. But then came the reveal: a shapeless dress made from very light fabric, and instead of a silver fastening, there was artwork of a silver star. Better yet, Bec shared a photo of herself wearing the dress—and the difference between that photo and the advert was stark, to say the least. She captioned the post, which has more than 18,000 upvotes: "When will I learn to check reviews before making silly online orders!? Not today." Reddit users were quick to point out that the original advert looked as though it was created with AI, with one writing: "I think it's safe to say that no one is going to be able to produce clothing from a GenAI image." Some pointed out what appeared to be an extra thumb on the model's hand, and a strangely long index finger, while another said the cheap price would have made the dress "too good to be true." One laughed at "the clasp being printed on," while another wrote: "And it has the audacity to not fit too!? Insult to injury." And one user wrote: "You don't need reviews. Try to consider how much things should cost to make and compare that to the price. Mismatch here and it'll be a dud." The dress once it arrived, and right, Bec wearing it. The dress once it arrived, and right, Bec wearing it. Reddit u/chemicalmum Bec told Newsweek she has emailed the company asking for a refund and has received no reply, while the other two dresses have still yet to arrive—"so it turned out to be a pretty pricey lesson in due diligence on my behalf." She also revealed that this has "never happened" before—"I shop online fairly regularly, and have always received what I have ordered. "I am a little bamboozled as to why they bothered to send anything at all. They already had my money, so why send something so clearly disappointing?" She appreciated commenters taking the post "in the lighthearted way" it was intended, but in response to those stating that particular dress could never be right based on an AI image, she has decided to be "petty." Despite not being a dressmaker herself, she said she is "going to try and make the dress myself, and just self-check my own sanity." "Should I be lowering my expectations as suggested by so many Reddit commenters? Or should they be raising theirs? "This could all go terribly wrong and I'll be eating my words, but we will see!" Bandai Spirits Is Doing A Metal Gear REX Chogokin Toy

In rather momentous news, Bandai Spirits has announced that they will be making a Metal Gear REX chogokin, with more details to be revealed at the end of the month. Metal Gear REX is the main enemy mecha in Metal Gear Solid, and is arguably one of the best mecha designs in the entire Metal Gear series. Designed by Yoji Shinkawa, the REX is able to fire a nuclear warhead from its right shoulder-mounted railgun and is also armed with an array of other formidable weaponry. Now, we already had a really massive and expensive toy of Metal Gear REX back in 2012, courtesy of threeA. However, it didn't really have much diecast used in its construction, and due to its size and weight, it often had issues with its leg joints. That was then followed by a very nice kit by Kotobukiya in the same year, and as that was a fair bit smaller, it held together a bit better, but was still a kit and suitably fragile with it. FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder This new chogokin, though, is a whole other thing entirely. This is because chogokin toys use an inordinate amount of diecast in their construction, and while this may not be as huge as the threeA version, it will be an awful lot sturdier due to this use of diecast. It's also interesting that Bandai Spirits is releasing this via the vanilla Chogokin toy line, rather than anything else. In that, certain toy lines at Bandai Spirits carry certain expectations, but as this is just a Chogokin release, the team on this can do pretty much whatever they think will work. I remember holding back on the old threeA toy after reports came in that the joints shattered under its own weight, but I think I will take the plunge this time around, as the various other Chogokin releases I have are very well made indeed. More details about this Chogokin Metal Gear REX will be announced on August 28, the same day that Metal Gear Solid Delta is released. Follow me on X, Facebook and YouTube. I also manage Mecha Damashii and am currently featured in the Giant Robots exhibition currently touring Japan.
