Mumbai Cops Question Actor Dino Morea In River Cleaning Corruption Case
Mumbai:
Actor Dino Morea appeared before the Mumbai Police today for questioning in a corruption case linked to a contract for cleaning Mithi river that runs through Mumbai. According to sources in the Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing, the 49-year-old actor and his brother were in touch with Ketan Kadam, a prime accused in the case who was arrested earlier this month.
Morea's name came up when the investigators analysed the call records of Ketan Kadam and his co-accused Jai Joshi, the sources said. He and his brother were found to have spoken to Ketan Kadam multiple times over the phone. The actor is being questioned about his links to the accused and if he knew about their dealings.
What Is Mithi River Desilting Scam
The Economic Offences Wing has alleged irregularities worth Rs 65 crore after officials of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, a Kerala firm and Ketan Kadam and Jay Joshi -- who rent out silt pusher machines -- joined hands for a contract to desilt Mithi river.
It is alleged that a team of BMC officials visited the plant of Matprop, a Kerala-based firm specialising in desilting and dredging machines. BMC later floated tenders with specifications that exactly match Matprop machines. This meant any contractor who applies for the tender would have to buy or hire machines from the Kerala firm.
The investigation has revealed that when a BMC official went to Matprop to buy the machines, he was directed to 'middlemen' Ketan Kadam and Jai Joshi, who rent out such machines. They initially asked for Rs 8 crore for a two-year contract to rent out silt pusher machines and multipurpose amphibious pontoon machines. Eventually, an agreement was reached on Rs 4 crore.
It is alleged that BMC officials, Matprop representatives, and Kadam and Joshi colluded to hatch and carry out this conspiracy.
The desilting rate was also hiked. The normal rate was Rs 1,609 per metric tonne, it was increased to Rs 2,193 per metric tonne for these machines. When the BMC's vigilance department objected, the earlier rate was approved. The officials paid Rs 17 crore to the contractors, the investigation has found. The contractors allegedly generated fake bills for transporting sludge out of Mumbai. A total of 13 persons have been charged in the case. These include Matprop's Dipak Mohan and Kishore Menon. Only two - Kadam and Joshi - have been arrested.

Lucknow: A woman died and a man sustained serious injuries after a speeding UPSRTC bus, driven under the influence of alcohol, mowed them down in Mohanlalganj area on Sunday morning. The out-of-control bus also rammed into a roadside grocery shop after breaking an electric pole. The incident occurred around 8 am near Bindauwa cut on the Lucknow-Raebareli national highway. The bus (UP33CT2331), belonging to the Rae Bareli depot and en route to Lucknow, hit 50-year-old cyclist Umesh Goswami and 38-year-old pedestrian Ramdevi. Ramdevi, a resident of Ganeshganj Bindauwa, was walking alongside the highway when the mishap occurred. Umesh, also from Bindauwa, remains in critical condition. The impact of the crash was so severe that the bus smashed an electric pole before ploughing into the closed grocery shop owned by Santosh Maurya, causing damage worth around Rs 5,000. Fortunately, the shop was closed at the time, averting further casualties. Eyewitnesses reported panic and chaos as passengers onboard fled after the crash. Approximately 20 passengers exited the bus immediately. Police reached the scene, arranged for alternate transportation for stranded commuters, and towed the damaged bus off the road. Both the driver and conductor were taken into custody. Police confirmed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol, and a medical examination is underway. Ukraine Blows Up Russia's Rs 700 Cr Warbird; Zelensky Sends Su-35 To Hell
New Delhi: Ukraine has claimed that it shot down one of Russia's most advanced and expensive fighter jets. The Ukrainian Air Force said the Russian Su-35 was destroyed near Kursk, a region inside Russian territory. The cost of this jet is said to be around Rs 700 crore (about $90 million). Moscow has not confirmed the loss. According to Ukraine, the Su-35 was taken down near the Russian border region of Kursk. The area has become a flashpoint in recent months, with Ukraine stepping up cross-border aerial strikes and drone incursions. The Ukrainian Air Force called it a successful operation. The jet was reportedly hit during a mission early Saturday morning. A statement posted on Telegram said the strike happened in the 'Kursk direction'. A video released by Ukraine shows a jet in flames, believed to be the Su-35. It is not clear if it was recorded by a drone or another fighter jet. Independent sources have not verified the video yet. The Su-35 is one of the top combat aircraft of Russia. It is 4th-generation multi-role fighter and is designed for air dominance and long-range strikes. Developed by Russia's Sukhoi, it is an upgraded version of the Su-27. The jet is known for its advanced weapons systems, agility and speed. Valued at around $90 million (Rs 700 crore), it is one the costliest aerial assets of Russia. This is considered to be one of the deadliest aerial strike by Ukraine in weeks. And if the claim turns out to be true, the loss of Su-35 would mark a major tactical success. Why does it matter? The reported downing comes amid Ukraine's growing strategy of striking targets inside Russian territory, a tactic meant to rattle Moscow's sense of security. The airstrike came just days after Ukraine carried out drone attacks on several Russian airbases under its 'Spiderweb' operation. In those strikes, strategic bombers like Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 were damaged. Ukraine has launched over 117 drones inside Russia so far. At least 40 Russian aircraft have reportedly been hit the operations. These attacks aim to limit Russia's ability to launch missile strikes on Ukrainian cities and degrade its air superiority. Ukraine's General Staff also made another bold claim. Since the full-scale war began in February 2022, it says Ukrainian forces have shot down 414 Russian planes. Military experts believe these tactics are shifting the dynamics of the war, especially in contested airspace. So far, Russia has not responded officially to the Su-35 incident. Confirmation of the shootdown remains unclear. However, if Ukraine's claim is accurate, it marks a major success in its defensive campaign and a serious setback for Moscow's air dominance.
