Ukraine Blows Up Russia's Rs 700 Cr Warbird; Zelensky Sends Su-35 To Hell
New Delhi: Ukraine has claimed that it shot down one of Russia's most advanced and expensive fighter jets. The Ukrainian Air Force said the Russian Su-35 was destroyed near Kursk, a region inside Russian territory. The cost of this jet is said to be around Rs 700 crore (about $90 million). Moscow has not confirmed the loss.
According to Ukraine, the Su-35 was taken down near the Russian border region of Kursk. The area has become a flashpoint in recent months, with Ukraine stepping up cross-border aerial strikes and drone incursions.
The Ukrainian Air Force called it a successful operation. The jet was reportedly hit during a mission early Saturday morning. A statement posted on Telegram said the strike happened in the 'Kursk direction'. A video released by Ukraine shows a jet in flames, believed to be the Su-35. It is not clear if it was recorded by a drone or another fighter jet. Independent sources have not verified the video yet.
The Su-35 is one of the top combat aircraft of Russia. It is 4th-generation multi-role fighter and is designed for air dominance and long-range strikes. Developed by Russia's Sukhoi, it is an upgraded version of the Su-27. The jet is known for its advanced weapons systems, agility and speed. Valued at around $90 million (Rs 700 crore), it is one the costliest aerial assets of Russia.
This is considered to be one of the deadliest aerial strike by Ukraine in weeks. And if the claim turns out to be true, the loss of Su-35 would mark a major tactical success.
Why does it matter?
The reported downing comes amid Ukraine's growing strategy of striking targets inside Russian territory, a tactic meant to rattle Moscow's sense of security. The airstrike came just days after Ukraine carried out drone attacks on several Russian airbases under its 'Spiderweb' operation. In those strikes, strategic bombers like Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 were damaged.
Ukraine has launched over 117 drones inside Russia so far. At least 40 Russian aircraft have reportedly been hit the operations. These attacks aim to limit Russia's ability to launch missile strikes on Ukrainian cities and degrade its air superiority.
Ukraine's General Staff also made another bold claim. Since the full-scale war began in February 2022, it says Ukrainian forces have shot down 414 Russian planes. Military experts believe these tactics are shifting the dynamics of the war, especially in contested airspace.
So far, Russia has not responded officially to the Su-35 incident. Confirmation of the shootdown remains unclear. However, if Ukraine's claim is accurate, it marks a major success in its defensive campaign and a serious setback for Moscow's air dominance.

Panic broke out late Saturday night at a restaurant in Ghaziabad when a group of armed men stormed in and vandalised the premises, causing chaos amongst diners, including women and children. Based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered under IPC sections 352 (assault or use of criminal force), 115(2), 324(4), 351(3), and 309(6).Police are now scrutinising the CCTV footage to identify and arrest the accused. Tax evasion a national crime, take stern action against fake firms: CM
1 2 Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday directed officials to act against shell companies and fake firms that are deriving undue benefits against the rules. He said that such acts were an attempt to misuse the facilities meant for genuine traders and the matter should be dealt with seriously. The CM, while conducting a high-level review of the state tax department, directed officials to ensure transparency in tax collection and adopt a policy of technological efficiency and strict enforcement. Calling the act of such companies 'unforgivable', Yogi said, "Tax evasion is a national crime that negatively impacts development plans and welfare schemes." Stressing that GST is a consumer-based tax system, he noted that areas with higher population density were naturally expected to generate increased tax revenues for the state coffers. He instructed officials to develop special strategies for zones where tax collection is below average. Yogi directed that information on suspicious firms registered under central GST (CGST) be shared with the higher authorities in Delhi for cancellation of their registration. He ordered in-depth departmental investigations for firms under state GST (SGST). "In areas with weak tax collection, additional, joint, and deputy commissioners should personally engage with traders to build trust, cooperation, and a sense of compliance among the taxpayer community," said Yogi.

HC orders restoration ofpower at SP MP's house
Prayagraj: The Allahabad High Court has directed to restore the electricity connection at the residence of Samajwadi Party MP of Sambhal Zia Ur Rehman Barq which was disconnected in Dec 2024. Passing above directions to Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, the court also stayed the final assessment order imposing on him electricity charges of Rs. 1.91 crores for a period of 4,138 days upon the allegation of unauthorised use of electricity. Hearing a writ petition filed by Zia Ur Rehman, a division bench, comprising Justice Saumitra Dayal Singh and Justice Sandeep Jain fixed July 2 for the next hearing of the case. Barq had moved the HC against the assessment order on the ground that the same was passed entirely without jurisdiction as it imposed an assessment for over 12 years, when Section 126(5) of the Electricity Act only allowed imposition of charges for a maximum of 12 months in cases where the period of unauthorized usage was non-determinable. It was also contended that the final assessment order also demanded payment of electricity duty and compounding charges, which the authority had no jurisdiction to impose. Apart from above, it was also argued that by breaching the statutory period of assessment, an arbitrary demand of Rs 1.91 crore had been raised and that the petitioner cannot be made to deposit 50% of such illegal demand to maintain an appeal. Fixing July, 2, 2025, for next hearing, the court in its order dated June 4 stayed the final assessment subject to the petitioner depositing Rs 6 lakh within two weeks. It also directed the restoration of the electricity connection of the petitioner, subject to the timely payment of future bills. As per the statement of executive engineer, UPPCL in Sambhal, two meters at Barq's residence were found showing zero readings for the last six months and the units consumed did not exceed 100 in any of the remaining months last year. However, during the inspection, it was allegedly found that electricity consumption in his house exceeded 16 kilowatts daily, despite the sanctioned connection being only 4 kilowatts.
