And there have been a fair few names thrown into the mix in recent months.
Now, another star has got tongues wagging after his recent interview on BBC Radio 2 on Tuesday morning.
This star in particular has already been brought up into conversation when it comes to who the next Bond could be, but even more so after he swerved a question.
It's none other than Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey, who was talking to Scott Mills on The Scott Mills Breakfast Show.
Jonathan joined Scott to celebrate the release of the Jurassic World Rebirth film, which stars the actor.
And they ended up discussing rumours that Jonathan is a contender to be the next James Bond:
Scott said to the star: 'It's an obvious question, but I'm going to be honest with you, it's the one people are asking the most, so I'm going to ask it. Do you, or would you be, James Bond?'
Jonathan playfully replied with: 'Scott, how dare you!' to which Scott clarified: 'It's not me, it's the listeners and there are thousands.'
The actor managed to somehow sidestep the question, responding: 'I mean, that's an amazingly flattering ask. I could imagine you as James Bond, Scott.'

And Scott was quick to pick up on the change of direction, saying: 'Well, swerved, because that's not true. But, I mean, we know you could do it, but you'd want to do it?'
Jonathan seemed to be more open to replying, as he said: 'I don't...I am not sure... I don't know. I really, honestly, I mean... it would be hard to say no, but I know that it's going to be exciting whatever they do.'
Leaving Scott to reply: 'Thank you for answering that, because it was the most popular question. And I'll be honest, I almost ran away from you a bit like you did with Steven Spielberg, before I asked, but I'm glad I did. Thank you very much.'
It seems many actors are in the running for the career making role.
Timeline of James Bond actors
Over the years there have been seven actors who have played 007.
The first ever James Bond film was in 1962, and this is who has played the lead role over the years: Sean Connery - The late star was the first ever actor to play Bond, and reprised the role for seven movies.
George Lazenby - The star only played Bond once, but was the youngest actor to ever play the spy.
Roger Moore - The late movie star spent 12 years making seven films in the famous franchise.
Timothy Dalton - The smooth actor took over from Roger Moore and appeared in The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill.
Pierce Brosnan - The handsome star played Bond for four movies from 1995 to 2002.
Daniel Craig - The British star was the first blonde James Bond and the sixth actor to win the role in 2005.
Theo James' name was thrown into the hat after he wowed fans in Netflix's The Gentlemen last year.
His performance in the Guy Ritchie series made him an ideal candidate for the next actor to fill the shoes of 007.
Other names still in the running include Aaron Taylor-Johnson after it was revealed back in 2022 that the Brit had already "filmed a top-secret scene" at Pinewood Studios, Berkshire.
Famed for the Kick-Ass movie series and the Marvel movie Avengers: Age of Ultron, Aaron shot to fame playing John Lennon in Nowhere Boy.
The Sun previously exclusively revealed how Bond bosses had offered the job to Aaron.
And with his quintessential Englishman good looks, James Norton has been a hot contender for the next Bond for many years.
The chiselled star is known for playing the lead role of Sidney Chambers in Grantchester, and also evil Tommy Lee Royce in Happy Valley. Also in the running is Jack Lowden, known for BBC gangster drama The Gold and the TV hit Slow Horses.

How Scarlett Johansson tried not to be a 'humongous weirdo' to Steven Spielberg
Scarlett Johansson has spent 30 years wanting to be in a Jurassic universe movie, so tired desperately not to put off producer Steven Spielberg from hiring her by being 'a humongous weirdo' about it. The Hollywood actress, 40, is known for her association with massive franchises like Transformers and, of course, her nine appearances in Marvel movies including Avengers: Endgame, Iron Man 2 and Black Widow as spy and assassin Natasha Romanoff. But the chance to appear in Jurassic World Rebirth was extra-special for Johansson, she told Metro on the red carpet at Jurassic World Rebirth's London premiere on Tuesday night. The new dinosaur movie – the seventh feature-length film in the series – sees the legendary Spielberg executive produce once again, alongside the return of original screenwriter David Koepp. Spielberg also famously directed 1993's Jurassic Park and 1997's follow-up The Lost World: Jurassic Park, both of which were penned by Koepp. British filmmaker Gareth Edwards – known for his original sci-fi film The Creator as well as directing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – takes over at the helm for Jurassic World Rebirth. It was him who first tipped off Metro to Johansson's obsession with the franchise. He revealed in a forthcoming interview that Spielberg had informed him in a casting meeting that Johansson would 'kill' him if she didn't get the part of extraction expert Zora Bennett. 'He was basically forced to cast me!' Johansson laughed when told of Edwards' story at this evening's premiere. Adding her side of the story, she exclusively told Metro: 'I've been chasing the Jurassic universe for three decades. I would have happily played any kind of dino snack! 'But I knew that they were doing a new one and that there was a part that I potentially could be right for – right age and otherwise – and so I got in there and was like, I've got to meet on this! I just want to share my enthusiasm.' After setting up a general meeting with Spielberg, Johansson then tried to play it cool. '[I] tried to not be a humongous weirdo and geek out, but after a couple of hours talking to him he brought it up. He was like, 'Oh I think we're supposed to be talking about Jurassic?' and that was my in ,' she shared. 'So then I felt comfortable being a total nerd!' The double Oscar nominee also praised Jurassic World Rebirth's 'extraordinary' wider team for coming together to deliver the film to cinemas less than 12 months after shooting wrapped – and only 16 months after Edwards was announced as director (with no cast in place). 'We did shoot if for five months, so it wasn't that fast, but I think Gareth knew… it's all in the magic of post-production. He put the pedal to the metal,' Johansson said. Emphasising the speed, she added: 'I mean, we were just having a sound mixing conversation like 10 days ago. So it's really being delivered – it is hot off the presses! 'And you do that with an extraordinary group of post-production specialists and a big, big team – that's the way you do it.' Johansson also produces on the film, in which she co-stars with Wicked actor Jonathan Bailey, two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, Homeland and Companion star Rupert Friend and Netflix star of The Lincoln Lawyer Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. More Trending Set 32 years after dinosaurs were brought back from extinction thanks to the events of Jurassic Park, Jurassic World Rebirth follows a top-secret expedition including Johannson's former military operative Bennett, Bailey's bespectacled palaeontologist Dr Henry Loomis, Friend's pharmaceutical rep Martin Krebs and Ali's team leader Duncan Kincaid. The group braves the forbidden isolated equatorial regions where dinosaurs still roam freely to extract DNA from three massive prehistoric creatures in the hopes of a major medical breakthrough. However, the island is also home to mutant species who have thrived following man's experiments on them to appease crowds at the former theme park. Jurassic World Rebirth is released in cinemas on Wednesday July 2. Got a story? Tom Cruise and Dolly Parton among stars set to receive honorary Oscars
Thirty-five years after Tom Cruise received his first Oscar nomination, he's finally getting a trophy. Cruise, choreographer Debbie Allen and Do The Right Thing production designer Wynn Thomas have all been selected to receive honorary Oscar statuettes at the annual Governors Awards, the film academy said. Dolly Parton will also be recognised with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her decades-long charitable work in literacy and education. 'This year's Governors Awards will celebrate four legendary individuals whose extraordinary careers and commitment to our filmmaking community continue to leave a lasting impact,' Academy president Janet Yang said in a statement. Most recipients of the prize historically have not yet won a competitive Oscar themselves. Cruise, 62, has been nominated four times, twice for best actor in Born on the Fourth of July and Jerry Maguire, once for supporting actor in Magnolia and once for best picture with Top Gun: Maverick. He has also championed theatrical moviegoing and big-scale Hollywood production through the coronavirus pandemic. Ms Yang spotlighted Cruise's 'incredible commitment to our filmmaking community, to the theatrical experience, and to the stunts community' Parton has been nominated twice for best original song, for 9 to 5 and, in 2006, Travelin' Thru from the film Transamerica. PA Media Dolly Parton poses at the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy Ceremony in New York (Andres Kudacki/AP). But her honour celebrates her humanitarian efforts over the years, through organisations like the Dollywood Foundation and the literary programme Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Ms Yang said Parton 'exemplifies the spirit' of the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. The awards will be handed out during an untelevised ceremony on November 16 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Los Angeles. Last year's recipients included the late Quincy Jones, Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson, filmmaker Richard Curtis and casting director Juliet Taylor. Recipients of the prizes, which honour lifetime achievement, contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences and service to the academy are selected by the film academy's board of governors.
