
After license, India looks to partner with Starlink on satcom infrastructure, others
CHENNAI: After granting the much-anticipated license to Elon Musk's satellite internet company Starlink to operate in India, the government is now exploring broader partnerships with the US-based firm to strengthen satellite communications and support the Digital India initiative.
Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced on Tuesday that the Indian government has granted Starlink a license to operate in the country—a major step toward expanding satellite-based broadband services nationwide.
Starlink President and COO Gwynne Shotwell, along with her team, met with the minister to discuss potential collaboration on Tuesday.
"Had a productive meeting with Ms Gwynne Shotwell, President & COO of SpaceX, on India's next frontier in connectivity. We delved into opportunities for collaboration in satellite communications to power Digital India's soaring ambitions and empower every citizen across the country. With India's digital revolution under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, satellite technologies are not just relevant, they're transformative," Scindia wrote on X after meeting with Shotwell and team.
Minister Scindia emphasised that India's market is open to all companies that meet regulatory requirements, stating, "You fulfill the requirements, and we are ready to welcome you." He highlighted the government's commitment to fostering competition and improving connectivity, especially in underserved regions.

Addressing reporters, Carney highlighted that Modi and India's presence at the G7 Summit "is a reflection of the size of the Indian economy, the dynamism of the Indian economy, Indian technology, the leadership position India plays in a host of venues from G20 and beyond." The G7 Summit 2025 marks PM Modi's sixth consecutive participation in the group of seven meetings as well as the prime minister's first visit to Canada in a decade. PM Modi's visit to Canada comes amid his three nation tour. The first stop was Cyprus, where the BJP leader was conferred with the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III, which is the highest civilian order of the country. After Canada, the prime minister will be headed to Croatia.

THE University Impact Rankings 2025: Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, 3 other Indian universities figure in top 100 list
Four Indian universities have secured a position in the top 100 list in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings 2025 released on June 18. The Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham at 41st rank is among the best-performing Indian institutes. The other Indian institutes in the list in the top 100 are Lovely Professional University (48), JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (56) and Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences (96). Australia's Western Sydney University has bagged the top position for the fourth consecutive year, followed by the United Kingdom's University of Manchester and South Korea's Kyungpook National University (KNU) in the second and third positions, respectively. Asian universities claim more than half of all places in the rankings, and 10 out of the 17 individual Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) rankings are now led by an Asian university, a statement on the THE Impact rankings website said. It stated that Indonesia's Universitas Airlangga, in joint ninth place, is the most sustainable institution from an emerging economy. Eight countries — Botswana, Burkina Faso, El Salvador, Estonia, Maldives, Namibia, Papua New Guinea and Senegal — have made their debut in the sustainability rankings this year. Beyond 100, THE Impact Rankings 2025 does not assign individual ranks but places institutions in ranges instead. Anna University, BS Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology, KIIT University and Manipal Academy of Higher Education are ranked at 101-200. Nitte (Deemed to be university) placed at 201-300, is the only institute in that range. Centurion University of Technology and Management, Chitkara University, Dr DY Patil Vidyapeeth Pune, IIT Gandhinagar, Manipal University Jaipur, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences and Shiv Nadar University are placed between 301 and 400 ranks. While IIT Guwahati and VIT find themselves between 601 and 800 ranks, IIT Mandi, NIT Silchar and JNU are ranked between 1001-1500 in the THE Impact Rankings 2025. The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025 has ranked 2,526 universities from 130 countries or territories based on their progress towards the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Upcoming IPO: Pune-based Jewellery Player PNGS Reva Diamond Jewellery is inching close to going public as the company has filed its Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) with capital markets regulator, Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) for its initial public offering (IPO). PNGS Reva Diamond Jewellery IPO details PNGS Reva Diamond Jewellery aims to raise ₹450 crore through the public offering, which comprises an entirely fresh issue of equity shares with a face value of ₹10 apiece. The issue is being made through the book-building process, wherein at least 75 per cent of the net issue is allocated to qualified institutional buyers, and not more than 15 per cent and 10 per cent of the net issue is assigned to non-institutional investors and retail individual investors, respectively. The proceeds from the fresh issue, to the extent of ₹286.56 crore, PNGS Reva Diamond Jewellery said, will be used for funding expenditure towards the setting-up of 15 new stores by Fiscal 2028. The company will further use ₹35.40 crore for marketing and promotional expenses related to the launch of the 15 new stores, aimed at enhancing local brand awareness and visibility of its flagship brand, 'Reva', in their respective areas; and general corporate purposes.
