Man who allegedly struck woman at Riverside ‘No Kings' protest is arrested
Police on Monday arrested a man accused of driving an SUV that struck a 21-year-old woman marching at a 'No Kings' protest in Riverside. She remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Russell Prentice, 58, of Riverside was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and hit-and-run causing injury, the Riverside Police Department said Tuesday. He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.
Candase Wenzel was also arrested. The 39-year-old Riverside woman is accused of having a role in taking the SUV more than 30 miles away to the remote unincorporated area of Phelan in the Mojave Desert, 'intentionally destroying and concealing evidence,' the Police Department said.
Prentice allegedly fled after driving a black SUV toward a crowd of protesters marching along University Avenue, between Orange and Main streets, and striking the woman at around 9:10 p.m. Saturday. Police haven't identified the victim, but a woman who called herself a friend and created a GoFundMe page identified her as Alexa Carrasco.
'She was rushed to the hospital' and was in intensive care with 'life-threatening injuries,' wrote the friend, Leslie Hernandez. Hernandez told The Times on Monday that Carrasco was in critical condition in the intensive care unit but was stable.
Carrasco's friends told KCAL-TV that she suffered severe skull injuries as well as a cracked rib, punctured lung and broken leg.
After police issued a plea to the community for tips to identify and locate the suspect, officers were able to find the SUV's license plate number. Detectives were then able to identify the suspect, police said, and made an arrest in Riverside.
Riverside Police Chief Larry Gonzalez expressed his thanks for the tips that people sent to police.'We're grateful for the information they provided,' the chief said in a statement.

Marysville to rename Oak Street after fallen Officer Osmar Rodarte
In a tearful presentation by the mayor of Marysville, city leaders honored fallen Officer Osmar Rodarte with a proclamation to rename Oak Street after his sacrifice. Fellow officers, city leaders, community members and Rodarte's family poured into City Hall on Tuesday night for a proclamation to forever remember the man who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Mayor Chris Branscum said that Oak Street will be memorialized as Officer Osmar Rodarte Memorial Way. "We will be eternally grateful for his service and sacrifice, and whereas the same is true for his family, who have sacrificed alongside this heroic American," said Renick House, Yuba County supervisor. Rodarte was killed in March in the line of duty during a transnational drug trafficking bust in Olivehurst. He leaves behind his wife and young children. "The pain never goes away. We will forever honor your son, your husband, your father, your grandson," Mayor Branscum said. "I saw your son get his badge pinned on in this room." As the room remembered Rodarte, two more officers were sworn in to the Marysville Police Department. Rodarte's death in the line of duty was the first for the department in a hundred years. "We are all with you. Though Osmar Rodarte is gone, his spirit will live on in our hearts and he will be remembered as a true hero who gave his life on the line of duty," House said. Rodarte's family exchanged handshakes and hugs with city officials as they accepted the proclamation to rename Oak Street. "The City of Marysville wishes to honor and preserve the memory of Officer Rodarte's life, service and sacrifice," Mayor Branscum said. It's unclear exactly when new signage will be put in reflecting the name change, but the city says it will be soon.

Grandma allegedly drugged grandkids and locked them in cages so she could go out: ‘Meemaw makes us stay in the dog cage'
An Oklahoma grandmother allegedly drugged her grandkids and locked them in a dog cage for hours when she wanted to go out alone, according to a year-long investigation of abuse accusations. Davena Marx, 53, is accused of feeding the two children — whom she had full custody of — anti-psychotic drugs, whipping them with a belt, grinding her heels into their feet, and forcing them to exercise until they collapsed, according to local reports. She was charged with various counts of child abuse and child neglect against her 8-year-old granddaughter and 6-year-old grandson, Local 12 reported. 3 Davena Marx, 53, is charged with child abuse for locking her two grandchildren in a dog cage among other accusations. GoFundMe 'Memaw sells drugs and uses them,' one of the children told investigators after they were rescued from the alleged house of horrors in the city of Warr Acres. 'She makes us stay in the dog cage when she wants to go outside by herself.' The young boy told investigators that Marx, whom he called 'Memaw' gave him Seroquel, a sleep-inducing drug used to treat schizophrenia that's only supposed to be taken by kids older than 13. Police said that traces of the drug were found in both Marx's grandson and granddaughter. A social worker from the Department of Human Services conducted a welfare check last year after receiving a tip about abuse, according to local reports. The granddaughter texted a social worker, 'she is mean to us, she is very abusive,' according to OKCFOX. The kids were immediately removed from the home. 'They did find a large dog cage in the residence,' Allen said. 'They also did locate Seroquel, which was also one of the allegations that Seroquel had been given to the children as well.' Lowe's worker allegedly shoots co-worker dead on forklift — confesses to murder in HR email
An unhinged Lowe's employee shot and killed his coworker as he operated a forklift during an overnight shift at the hardware store — then bizarrely fessed up to the murder in an email to human resources. Christopher Wasnetsky, 36, allegedly unloaded multiple shots at 44-year-old Jeff Moeller while he was working at a Lowe's in Scranton, Pa., around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, according to a criminal complaint obtained by the Scranton Times-Tribune. Officers found Moeller — a father of three — was struck twice in the head and once in the back and was in critical condition, the outlet added. 4 Christopher Wasentsky was arrested for killing his coworker during an overnight shift at a Pennsylvania Lowe's. Wasnetsky was charged with first and third-degree murder and is currently being held on no bail at the Lackawanna County Prison. He is scheduled to appear in front of a judge for his preliminary hearing on June 30th.
