‘So excited': Iconic Macca's item finally lands in Australia

News.com.au12-05-2025

A popular menu item that has been available overseas for more than two decades has finally landed in Australia.
The McGriddle — which is essentially a McMuffin with maple-flavoured hot cakes instead of bread — was created by McDonald's executive chef Gerald Thomlinson in 1999.
But the breakfast sandwich, which has become a staple in countries such as Canada and the United States, didn't hit stores until June 2003.
McGriddles have never been available in Australia — until now, with fans of the fast food chain spotting the item at various locations around Sydney.
A spokesperson confirmed to news.com.au that the claims are indeed true.
'Macca's is always looking for new ways to serve the perfect breakfast,' the spokesperson said.
'We are trialling soft, warm McGriddles in select restaurants across New South Wales only.
'McGriddles feature griddle cakes with the sweet taste of maple, with the combination of Sausage, Sausage and Egg, or Bacon and Egg, or simply enjoyed on its own.'
TikTok creator @littlemissfion was one of the first food content creators to spot the McGriddle Down Under.
'I got the Sausage and Egg McGriddle. It's like a McMuffin but with pancakes and maple syrup,' she said.
Adrian Widjy, better known as Places in Sydney, said his 'prayer was answered' with the McGriddle finally being available in his hometown.
'I always have them when I am in Japan or Hong Kong,' he said.
'Now it's here where I am in Sydney.'
The elated content creator said the Sausage and Fried Egg was his personal favourite, loving the sweet and savory combination of the breakfast item.
The McGriddle has so far been spotted at locations such as Macquarie Centre, Kingsford, Sylvania, Croydon and Haberfield.
Social media users had a huge reaction to the breakfast item finally landing on menus in Australia.
'So excited. This is the only item the US Maccas has that we don't have that's actually good,' one social media user commented.
Another added: 'As an American living in Australia, this is the one thing that I complain about all the time all I want is a McGriddle.'
'Bro I swear to God whoever lives in Sydney better buy them in BULK because I need them to release so I can finally try one,' one said.
'They're amazing. best thing in America,' one added.
Another social media user said: 'Wait.....you don't have this normally in Australia?'
'They need to drop this nationwide ASAP,' one commented.

World's biggest TikTok star leaves US after being detained by ICE

The Senegalese-Italian influencer, whose legal name is Seringe Khabane Lame, was detained Friday at Harry Reid International Airport but was allowed to leave the country without a deportation order, a spokesperson for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed in a statement. Lame arrived in the US on April 30 and "overstayed the terms of his visa," the ICE spokesperson said. TikTok star Khaby Lame has left the US after he was detained by ICE officers. (Scott Garfitt/Invision/AP) The Associated Press sent a message seeking comment Tuesday to the email address listed on Lame's Instagram account. He has not publicly commented on his detainment. His detainment and voluntary departure from the US comes amid President Donald Trump's escalating crackdown on immigration, including raids in Los Angeles that sparked days of protests against ICE, as the president tests the bounds of his executive authority. A voluntary departure – which was granted to Lame – allows those facing removal from the US to avoid a deportation order on their immigration record, which could prevent them from being allowed back into the US for up to a decade. Lame, who is Senegalese-Italian, has more than 162 million followers on TikTok. (AP) The 25-year-old rose to international fame during the pandemic without ever saying a word in his videos, which would show him reacting to absurdly complicated "life hacks." He has over 162 million followers on TikTok alone. The Senegal-born influencer moved to Italy when he was an infant with his working class parents and has Italian citizenship. His internet fame quickly evolved. He signed a multi-year partnership with designer brand Hugo Boss in 2022. In January, he was appointed as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador. Last month, he attended the Met Gala in New York City, days after arriving in the US. immigration TikTok celebrities USA World CONTACT US

World's biggest TikTok star, Khaby Lame, detained by US, told to leave

Immigration officials in the US have confirmed they detained and then told one of the world's biggest TikTok stars to leave the country because he 'overstayed the terms of his visa'. Khaby Lame, who has more than 160 million followers on the social media site, voluntarily left the US on Friday, it's been reported. The 25-year-old Senegalese-Italian became famous for his comedy skills and parody of ridiculous 'life hacks' offered up online, and in May was a guest at New York's Met Gala. 'US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained Seringe Khabane Lame, 25, a citizen of Italy, (on) June 6, at the Harry Reid International Airport, Las Vegas, Nevada for immigration violations,' ICE said in a statement to America's National Public Radio (NPR). ICE said Lame entered the country legally on April 30 but stayed there beyond his visa limits. 'Lame was granted voluntary departure June 6 and has since departed the US,' the statement read. ESTA authorisation for the US, which many people travel on, lasts for up to two years but has a number of work restrictions. P visas, which performers can obtain, often last only for the duration of an event or project which the person is completing. Authorities did not say what visa Lame was on. By departing voluntarily, he should face fewer hurdles upon returning to the US in future. However, NBC has reported that Sharks Celebrities Management, which represents Lame, said the ICE statement was 'fake news' and the star had not been in the US this month. The agency added that the 'name mentioned is not his birth name'. The Lame incident went viral after political activist Bo Loudon claimed he personally reported Lame to immigration authorities and alleged that the TikToker was being held at the Henderson Detention Centre in Nevada. Lame, whose social media accounts are filled with humorous clips and videos of his globetrotting exploits, has yet to publicly discuss the incident. Although born in West Africa, Lame has spent the majority of his life in Italy, where he joined TikTok during the pandemic out of boredom before his meteoric rise.
